Never had to call tech support, I like fixing computers or whatever so I'll just take it as a puzzle and do it myself.

They do need to ask simple questions though, people who ring tech support tend to not be able to fix things themselves, so they don't know how good you are with technology apart from the fact you can use a phone.

A friend of mine in EVE sent in a petition to a GM because he was killed by a station for detonating a bomb near it. Now usually this doesn't cause aggro from the stations guns, but according to the GM everything was working as intended and it went after him because he "offended the station". That one was pretty good.

Just felt like I should post this:
I haven't had any bad experiences with tech support myself though.

I heard this from Sony Europe tech support after getting my ps3 back:

Me: Excuse me, I'm calling because I just got my ps3 back and it seems to be missing it's controller.
Woman on phone: Did you plug it into the tv?
Me: Excuse me?
Woman on phone: A ps3 doesn't work if you don't plug it into....
Me: I said it's missing it's controller!
Woman on phone: Oh, that's alright this is a new model, it works without controllers.
Me: What?
Woman on phone: Yes, you see there's no problem.*hangs up*
Me:.....

I hope you rot in hell Sony tech support!
This made me laugh so much. Just stupidly hilarious

I sent an iPod to get it repaired because it wouldn't turn on. 2 Weeks later, sent back new one saying that they tested it, it was fine, and it should work. Didn't work. Spent 3 hours to fix it myself.

To add new entries for ad.doubleclick.net to the windows host file (MLB.TV support has no clue on how to make their products function this year)

"Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?"

No, I've been living in a cave all these years and have no bloody idea what a plug is.

Few years ago, I ordered Quake Wars in a Polish online store. Polish version, because English one costed almost 70 PLN more (170PLN instead of 100). And here's the dialogue, two days after I got the (wrong language, but I was content) package.

He: I'm sorry to disturb you sir, but it appears we have sent you the wrong package. Will you kindly send it back, at your expense?
Me: ....Are you kidding me? Of course not, I have already entered the online cd-key and played the game.
He: Are you sure?
Me: Yes, and it was your mistake to begin with.
He: Okay, then do you want to download a Polish patch?
Me: No, never said I do.
He: Are you sure?
Me: Yes, I'm pretty sure I don't want my eyes to malfunction from errors and go deaf from horrible lectors.
He: ...Are you sure?
Me: *CLING*

Huh. I always thought the problems lie with the customers. In Germany they're called D.A.U. or Dümmster Anzunehmender User (Dumbest assumable User or something like that). Reminds me of an old story i've read couple months ago :)

Tech Support: "OK Bob, let's press the control and escape keys at the same
time. That brings up a task list in the middle of the screen. Now type the letter
'P' to bring up the Program Manager."

Customer: "I don't have a 'P'."

Tech Support: "On your keyboard, Bob."

Customer: "What do you mean?"

Tech Support: "'P' on your keyboard, Bob."

Customer: "I'm not going to do that!"

Not me though, never had any problems.

I`ve noticed third party console repairmen are a lot more helpful than the actual game company as when your warranty is up they give up on you

I love that picture because it's exactly what I do and it's exactly why I've garnered a reputation amongst my friends as the 'computer go-to-guy'.

As for me, I don't need to call tech support often. Most my problems can be solved by "Have you turned it off and on again?"

That's what you get for being a gypsie...

Best I've had is them asking how I managed to fix my phone after a certain error. The guy didn't even understand the problem.
