Is your brother the lead singer? He sounds kind of like Chris Cornell.

Eh, not too bad.
Yup. He is.

The reason why I posted this on a message board isn't because I'm trying to get viewers or anything, its because I want to give him some actual feedback from other people on what they have to say about his music. Thank you.

Better than BrokenCYDE, worse than... well... worse than most bands.
At least IMO.
You took the words right out of my mouth, BrokenCYDE is probably the worst band ever.

OP: They've got some talent but the songs didn't wow me. Welcome to the Escapist!

Its tough getting known in the internet because everyone and their dog has something to advertise. In this day and age its all about target audience, the 11-15 tween demographic will buy anything disney says is cool and I guess you're going for older teens.

Your music is okay, it seems like all it takes is practice, best of lick to you brother.

nonono it that wasn't about the criticism. It was about the whole advertising thing. My bro just needs some feedback, no matter how harsh or good it is. Anything is greatly appericated. It isn't about money just trying to get a feel of what people think.
Change the band's name, for one. "The Woelves" sounds retarded. It can be either interpreted as someone in the group doesn't know how to spell, or you guys are "Wo" elves. Both are pretty stupid. Also, it sounds too much like Cold Play, but not as good. I can't think of much else, but, bottom line: They are rather terrible...

It is the "Woe" in Woelves that is the play on words. I'll be sure to tell him this though. I'm not too crazy about the name as well, but I do think it fits the feeling of the band somewhat though.

I hate that genre of music, and, personally, I found it fairly terrible.
And it's still advertisement.

Hmm, they're a bitlike Radiohead, only shit. Of course, I'd give constructive criticism if I could just get over the fact that the band name is so fabulously fucking stupid :)

That made about as much sense as saying "Nirvana fits the name of the band because they are like heaven". I mean, sure, they are a good band, a really good band, but that'd be going down the "We're more popular than Jesus"-Beatles road...
Also, tip of advice: Please, don't let them cover any Nirvana songs...
Haha, his first band he got into when he was a kid was Nirvana. That was the band that got him into music. That was a long time ago. I doubt he'll cover that band. Who knows though.

No offense to your brother, but if he is going to cover it in the style his band plays, that'll be the thing that drives me over the edge... Now, if his band goes towards grunge, and they sound good...

I doubt he will. Like you said, it isn't his style. His musical tastes have changed over the years. People say he sounds like coldplay and ect but the funny thing is he doesn't like them. He likes Neil Young really.

Wow - people are so touchy about advertising. If someone asks you if you like a game, does that then count as advertising?

Chillax guys.

OT: Not bad - hardly an original sort of set up but there are a lot worse 'professional' bands out there. Does sound like they trying to copy a number of other people though, and it'd be nice to here the guy on lyrics speak up a bit. And the music on each demo is too samey.

Like I said though, not bad, just needs to be developed further.

Alright, let's try your example, even though this is a gaming site.

"Hey guys, my brother is working on this game, what do you think? www.mybrosgame.com

Yeah, still advertising. You should understand that it is hard to take someone seriously in the community when their first post is a thread asking you to check something out. You know, maybe lurk for a while, comment on a couple topics... It's very suspect when an individual outright makes their first contribution to a site not a contribution at all, instead expecting others to contribute to him. He's new, and he will learn the way things are done around here. Until then, nobody is insulting him or anything, just teaching him about what goes and what doesn't.

If your bro is seriously keen for feedback on how to improve this band, and can handle the brutal honesty, here's some more detailed info on what is wrong with it from a music industry insider (me):

1. Name is crap. Change it. It only suits the feel of the band because both are dull and artless. You want a name that is distinctive, doesn't come up on a myspace search as being used by other bands, and is easy for promoters to remember and not fuck up.
2. Stop doing that Coldplay thing, seriously. No record labels are going to be looking at signing another Coldplay-alike artist for at least the next 15 years. All the bands who will ever sell records in this particlar music style between now and 2025 have already been signed. Either wait 15-20 years for the revival, or start doing something else. With keys in your band you have massive potential to sound like virtually anything you damn well please. So why pick Coldplay? Any band that was ever successful got that way by forging their own distinctive path, even self-consciously retro bands if they get really big usually have some kind of novel twist that they add.
3. The singer CAN actually sing but he isn't really getting the best out of his voice. He should be "going for it" a bit more. Modulating higher and pushing the upper range of his voice more wouldn't hurt. Or at the very least maybe get the other lazy sods in the band to harmonise vocals with him, I'm sure they can do some backings in between all that lazy strumming. And he should stop that whispery crap, he's not a girl.
4. Speaking of which why not get a girl in the band. I'm serious. Nothing spells "yawn" faster than four guys in a band. Except five guys in a band. Or if not a girl a Teletubbie, whatever. Just something different, not four or five guys in a band standing around... images like that won't entice anyone to give your band a chance. Sexist maybe but true. Guys in bands are everywhere. Mix it up a little.
5. Lyrics are really cliched and the whole vibe is played-out. Ask yourselves questions like - why are we in a band? Why are we making music? What do we really want to say to people? What is our statement? What is our aesthetic purpose? What is our ideological purpose? What can we offer as a band that another band cannot? What is our function? Why should someone listen to US instead of some other band? Then write some goddamn words and music. If the band is really from New York, well there's some intense competition there, NY has churned out some amazing bands over the years. You're going to have to be devastatingly original if you're going to cut the mustard quite frankly. A band that sounds like this coming from Luxembourg is almost forgivable. From New York, hell no.

Follow all that stuff above and there may be hope. Until then your bro's band is just another Coldplay clone, which as much chance of success as any other (i.e none).

Alright, well I was only trying to defend the OP. Besides, this is the off-topic forum so my example was perfectly valid. It's the same as a person linking to a funny video on youtube that someone's made, but then of course no one counts it as advertising.

I just think people should ease up on being forum police - no one likes you for it (not that you can really like anyone over a website) and it's defeating the point if you then go and comment on a topic you think should be ignored.

And the OP was also only asking for an opinion - they weren't saying 'support my brother's band then buy his album if it gets released' or whatever.
