A very random thread idea that could work. Widen each other's gaming knowledge Escapiees with interesting, funny, but true facts. Retro or recent. We'll give it a whirl. If it doesn't work we'll let the thread slide into obscurity.

My random fact: Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII has a belly button piercing. Just noticed it.

The greatest argument against unfettered Randian capitalism isn't Bioshock. It's Capitalism II---it's entirely possible to get $7 a can for soup if you play the game right.

Donkey Kong came about because Shigeru miyamoto was too lazy to make a new game so he just changed the look of the characters. They were Popeye (Mario), Olive Oyl (Princess Peach) and Bluto (Donkey Kong) but the company that held the rights said "Video based gaming? Piffle!".

Kirby is a round pillow because that's what they used as a stand in during development, and everyone became attached to it.

Sega's original Mario killer was going to be Ristar, but Sonic was developed instead. Fortunately, Ristar still was made as a game.

Anything in Mass Effect that makes the game world feel big (exploration of planets and collecting minerals, flying around solar systems, a bajillion different alien races, multiple dialogue options) was essentially ripped off from Star Control 2. This Isn't nitpicky fanboy stuff either. I truly love Mass Effect, but it is very blatant about where those ideas came from. For those of you who haven't played Star Control 2, yell at your Mom for not buying you that super awesome Panasonic 3DO when you were little.

That the number of Spartan-IIs is unknown due to contradicting canon and that John-117 was not the last Spartan, simply the last Spartan known to be in action.

The Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic games are considered non cannon because they contradict the universe that the comics created...

Huh. I always thought they pegged that hope on Alex Kidd.

there is NOT a person hanging themselves in the wizard of oz...its an urban legend and the movement you see in the background is actually just a large bird that was on set during the shooting

The "Memorize spells earlier in the day to cast them later" used in Dungeons and Dragons and some other systems which have copied Dungeons and Dragons is called "Vancian Spellcasting" named after Jack Vance's Dying Earth novel series, where that style of casting is thought to have originated
