Starcraft was originally intended to be a Warhammer 40K RTS, but the contract fell through. Not wanting all their hard work to go to waste, Blizz tweaked a bit here and there (Eldar became Protoss, Tyranids became Zerg, Marines became...Marines, etc.) and resold it as their own. They then proceeded to make more money than The Beatles.

Bob Dylan, Yahtzee, Queen Victoria of England, and I were born on the same calender date.
Close. Actually the games in question were Warcraft 1 and Warhammer. I guess it could have been both, but quite a few years separated Warcraft 1 and Starcraft 1.

edit

Side note: this is my favorite thing in quite some time.
Well now I feel like a proper dunce.

No need. There are certainly some striking similarities between 40k and Starcraft.

The Halo series (or at least Halo 1) was going to be an RTS, but they changed that not too long into the development because of reasons I can't remember, and it become an FPS, well until Halo Wars came out, but we wont mention that atrocity in this forum. Yeah, I learned that from a documentary about the evolution of videogames a couple of years ago.

I assume you're joking and know why he was called Sierra right? I'd hate to explain and realise you'd been winking the whole time and I'd missed the joke.
Actually I don't. Please enlighten me.

Nintendo and HAL planned a sequel for Earthbound, a 3D game called Earthbound 64, but it was canned.

However, a sequel did come around in 2005, I think. It was creatively entitled Mother 3, a GBA game in the same sort of style of Mother 2 (Earthbound). The main character, Lucas, appeared in Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii; despite Mother 3 being a Japan exclusive.

The game is brilliant, and had a strong cult following. Due to this, it recieved a complete fan translation that was released in 2007, they worked really hard to translate thousands of lines of text over a 2 year period, and they did a good job too. If you can track down a ROM and the translation patch (shouldn't be too hard), I would highly recommend it.

Mother 2/Earthbound and Mother 3 are light-hearted JRPGs on the SNES and GBA respectively.

EDIT: I don't condone piracy. Unless it's the only way (like this!).

EDIT 2: I bookmarked this thread. Some interesting shit.

They found it was interesting to move a single unit around in third person so it became a team based TPS. I'm not sure what madew them go first person, but it was probably similar to making it third person.

Out of the 30 teams in the MLB, 10 of them have never been a part of a perfect game, they are the Giants, Cardinals, Pirates, Orioles, Royals, Mariners, Brewers, Astros, Padres, and Rockies.

Also no pitcher has ever scored a run during the game he pitched a perfect game in. 3 pitchers have had RBIs in their perfect games.

the pyramids used to be white, smooth and shiny, the big bang was not an explosion, greek statues used to be bright colors.
and Mario was named after it's developer's land lord and only has a mustache and overalls because he was hard to animate, then some guy came in and said he looks Italian.
the rest is history.

Well thank you, now I have some more facts that I can give to my friends that they will probably forget in 5 minutes.

Wouldn't you count the Detroit Tigers or are you giving them the nod and saying they were robbed terribly and deserve the perfect game? If so, THANKS :D

Edit: wait, a part of... ok so it can be a team on the losing end of the perfect game?

The Dark Side of the Moon was played in a proto-form months before it was released or even recorded under various names including Eclipse: A Piece for Assorted Lunatics.

Im guessing its because of the codes
A=alpha
B=bravo
(s)partan=sierra?

Although, if memory serves me right, the reason is explained somewhere in one of the books.

Pointless response but meh.

The very first video game was introduced on October 18, 1958. It was made for the Brookhaven National Laboratory's annual visitors day. It was named "Tennis for Two."

The birthmark on Knuckles the echidna's chest was supposed to be the Nike mark when Sega was trying to make a martketing deal with them. But since it fell flat, they made the mark more generic. Also he originaly green.

Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) almost played Johnny Cage in the original Mortal Kombat movie. Also, Cameron Diaz was going to be Sonya Blade
