Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood just edges out Red Dead Redemption. JUST BARELY. Little bit more fun.

Mass Effect 2 for me.

AssCreedBros is runner-up, and Alan Wake should get an award for doing something different, and it's flaws weren't massive. Massive for a game that's been in development for 5 years perhaps, but it's not been the same solid iteration that they've been working on.

RDR doesn't get anything because everyone else has talked me out of it. If people think that's the best storytelling games have to offer then we may as well give up now. It was pretty good for a game (it kinda hurts to say those 3 words), but the pacing was rubbish, Marston was contradictorily written (and no, that wasn't intentional), and many of the characters were throw-away worthy at best.

Just Cause 2 as well, one of the few games this year that understands gaming is supposed to be fun, not a part time job.

The Sly Collection would be my GOTY just because it comes with 3 games that I love, but I don't think it can take the spot as all the games have been out for a while. It does give points for teasing Sly 4 though.

Mass Effect 2 took the GOTY spot for me. It was actually able to make me come back and play through it again multiple times just for the story, which is fairly impressive.

New Vegas was second, as it has so much to do and stays fun while doing it. I've put over 100 hours in it so far without signs of stopping.

Alan Wake is third. It's likely the most immersive game of the year for me and I really enjoyed it.

And from there (in no order):

Dead Rising 2- played through it 5 times and it's just good old fashion zombie killing fun. Fairly short with a smallish world though

It's currently looking as though it'll be Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. This may change if I get the Xbox version of Fallout: New Vegas before the end of the year, or at least get my PC in a decent state to be able to properly play the version I've got.

Mass Effect 2. It actually had real writers working on it! How innovative! Plus, the gameplay actually was as good as it's competitors in the TPS market, and the few complaints I've got about the game (stupid mining) are easily overlooked in the face of such a good story.

Second up, I'd pick Metro 2033. It's like Half-life 2, only with a more interesting story, better graphics, better gunplay, and AI that actually does stuff other than standing around (even if it is kind of stupid). No gravity gun, but with gameplay that wasn't inspired purely by Doom, I'll live with it.

Mass Effect 2, I was very happy that it improved upon the already awesome first game.

I'm fairly sure the only other new game I played this year was New Vegas, and it was unfortunately a little dissapointing.

I'll have to say Halo:Reach ooorrr Amnesia:Dark Desent. That is the only game that can get my girlfriend running from the room. She watched me play for 30 minutes and wouldn't go to sleep with the lights off LMAO! I'll have to say my vote goes for Amnesia lol.

Red Dead Redemption.

Just so fucking huge. And detailed... I like the way they have random encounters like Fallout 3.
+ The whole world being free-roam-able in multiplayer.
+ Undead Nightmare. A whole extra damn game as £6.00 DLC!
+ Shows up Fallout 3 entirely. Sure it's more replayable in different ways, but Red Dead's world is also huge and has way better graphics and individual attention. Not bashing FO3, just saying.

Black Ops loses by a tiny margin due to, while having one of the best plot twists I've ever seen, simply not having as well-detailed characters and enviroments. They were damn good, it's just Red Dead's is mindfuckingly immensely huge in comparisom.

Weirdly, I don't think I have one! There was no Gears of War 3 and I haven't played Fable 3 yet, so I don't know! nothing else stood out enough.

Red Dead Redemption gets my GOTY for a few reasons.

- I totally love the western genre, and RDR pulled off the Wild West really, really well.

- Great characters, I genuinely hated Edgar Ross - it's rare that I hate any character for reasons other than 'being annoying'.

- Best use of music in a video game for a long time. The two outstanding moments where music is deliberately started are strokes of genius.

I'm also quite fond of God of War 3, and I've yet to play Just Cause 2 but I freaking want to!!
