My life has only been really intersting in the last few years. I'm 31 and been married almost 3 years. I'm a chemical engineer and that is where a lot of the drama in my life comes from. I worked as a Chem E. in textile dying and finishing for almost 8 years. Then I realized that very soon my job would be somewhere in China, so I decided to get out of that industry. Plus, the company was treating me like crap. As Whereposum I'm sure can account, engineers in plants usually take the brunt of anything that goes wrong and don't get any praise when their work goes right. So I quit, got married and moved back to my home state of Tennessee three years ago. I started to work in the chemical industry there. I had a job dealing with some very dangerous chemicals on a daily basis. Things in that company were going south fast. Before I quit there, I was being asked to work 80+ hours a week and the safety in the plant was heading south very very fast. After our 3rd spill of an expecially dangerous chemical (concentrations higher than 30ppm in the air can be fatal) I decided to quit. However, I stuck witht he 80+ hours a week for about 5 months because they actually paid their engineers overtime. I was making more money than I knew what to do with. Which was nice, but not healty to be working 80+ hours a week in a dangerous environment.
Here is where things really came together for me. I got a job with a snackfood/candy company (officially now the largest in the world thanks to a new aquisition) in their Research and Development department (can you guess the company?) I now have what would be the closest thing I think I could have to a dream job. I work in an engineer's playground. We have so many engineering toys to help us do our jobs it is rediculous. This job has allowed me to travel, which my other jobs have not allowed me to do. In just 6 months I have been to Las Vegas, Orlando, New York, The Netherlands and Köln, German. Köln was beautiful I might add.
I take a lot of pride in my work and being an engineer. I am a very math/science oriented person. I like taking my engineering skill and using it at home. I love doing major home improvement projects. In the middle of an office rebuild now.
AngelSlayer, you sound a lot like my wife. She is an RN, very tall, very smart, very clumsy. But she doesn't like hunting or fishing, but I am teaching her how to use a handgun and she enjoys it.
I have been gaming since Atari 5200 and Comodore 64. I can't say there is a genre of game that I don't like. I've liked FPS, Horror, RP, JRPG, simulation, strategy... I don't descriminate. Lately I have been playing more FPS with COD4 and UT3 on 360.
The area that I live in has a lot of parks and a river in the downtown area. I like running/biking along the river, however, with my new job and travel I don't do it as much as I used to. Since I got married I have gained about 40 pounds. I shouldn't blame it on the marriage though. Before I got married I had surgery that basically didn't allow me to exercise for about 6 months and I went down hill fast. Also, I think my age is catching up to me. The only time I have felt old or that I was getting old was when I ran a 10k last November. I finished the race and went to turn in my time and I had to put it in the 30-35 age group, I was sad. So I am trying to get back to where I was, it is slow going, but fun. I like the effort.
My wife loves Football (soccer) and I just can't get into it. I like American College Football. Since I was born in Tennessee I am legaly required to root for the UT Vols and have all my life no matter where I may live. So my two favorite teams would be UT and anyone playing Florida.
OK, story time is over.
