Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64. An awesome little platformer, complete with and ninjas and Power Rangers style robot boss battles, what more could you ask for?
And Space station silicon valley, also for the N64. Another cool platform/puzzle game, involving robots, boxing kangaroo's, bear tanks and roller foxes. Mucho's fun, and pretty funny dialog to boot.

Mystical Ninja is one of my favourite games of all time, hands down. Especially since when I bought it I had no idea what it was, nor of Japanese culture, so it made it all the more crazy. Ebissemaru (sp?) cracked me up.

But what I was *going* to say was Gunstar Heroes, which is a cliche I know, but I loved it way before I knew what "Trying to seem cool by liking games that other people on the net say are good" was. It is simply a perfect example of how a game should be in my opinion.

Also, Syndicate Wars. Rarely mentioned, but the hours of fun I got out of that... the co-op was just killer. It was such a well made game, well considered, interesting missions, large variety of weapons.

But, as I'm typing, Front Mission 3 comes to mind. Why do I love it? I dunno. But, turn-based mechs just do it for me, and the whole "in-game internet" thing was a good feature too, and not something I can recall being done since. Loved it at the time. So yeah... that's my three.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

I only ever played a demo for it, & having since read up on it feel that i missed a gem of a game. Something about escaping an alien Soylent Green factory then liberating your fellow slave that just demands playing.
This game, more than any other, is the reason I hate side-scrollers. I wanted to beat it soooo badly, but I am simply not masochistic enough.

Also, System Shock 2. Bioshock's awesome, but it lost the sensation of being a weak monkey wrench caught in a powerful machine. It's not flawless (damn weapon degradation!) but it's one of the best PC games ever. If you've not played it, go buy it now. Seriously. Here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/Electronic-Arts-7969-System-Shock/dp/B00000K4AX

I'm sure you'll be able to find it somewhere for cheaper, but the point stands. PLAY THIS GAME! :)
I'm not paying what most places ask for it. I got an .iso for it (ARRRRR, I BE A PIRATE!), but this did not do me any good, because karma kicked me in the balls when it came to my attention that this game does not support widescreen... ever... no matter what.

My list would include Fallout and Fallout 2. You must play these, so you too can fear Bethesda's desecration of the series!

What else? Deus Ex, of course... one of the best games ever, IMO. Hm... Homeworld. You need to play Homeworld. I like space sims, but most of them suck. The two that come to mind are Freelancer and Privateer 2: The Darkening. The latter will need require some effort to get working, but it's worth it. The older Rainbow Six games are something I would reccomend, if only to see where the series has gone.

An OLD game that I still have lying around is an adventure title called Mission Critical. I really love that game, but I don't think they even made a Windows version, only DOS.

There are some more recent titles I can think of as well, but I think that naming them would be divergent from the spirit of this thread.

The design is typical Tolkienized european fantasy but probably has some of the best sound affects in any game ever.
QFT. When I first played that game at a friends place it took me 4-5 years to get that music out of my head. Still haven't quite recovered.

Metal Arms: Glitch In The System. It has a bucketload of insane weapons (automatic shotgun, anyone? Exploding crossbow bolts?), it's funny, it's old-school shooting at its' finest, and it has the biggest boss of any game I've ever played (100 feet tall, and at one point you get to control him in all his rocket-launching, robot stomping glory). It's one of those games that plastered a great big smile across my face.
I second that game. Any game that has a weapon allowing you to posess 50ft tall deathmachines at will has to be good.

Also, find Starfox 64/Lylat Wars. Play it, play it again, play it until your fingers bleed!

Hast no one mentioned the wonder that is Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3. 4 was alright but could have been better imo.

Oh and Grim Fandango. But i already wrote about that the other day.

Armies of Exigo was a good RTS that my brother mainly played but did seem quite fun.

Kid Chameleon on the Sega Megadrive (Genesis).
Just because I don't think I've ever got near to completing it, some levels have more than one exit, each taking you to a different level, so two playthroughs could end after wildly different times. The best platformer on the Sega, that wasn't Sonic.

All games by Bioware and Black Isle Studios are ace. They're the only games I replay over and over every year... Baldur's Gate, SWKotOR, Fallout, Planescape. Simply the best stories and dialogue in RPG's ever.

I dare everyone to play Facade at least once (or twice) in your life. It's something like an interactive drama involving a married couple whose relationship is falling apart, and you just happened to be invited to their house to either fix it up, bring it down, or just act like a complete idiot just to see how they react. You interact with them mainly by text-based chat, using the arrow keys to move around and the mouse to interact with them in other ways (like hugging and kissing them). I love this game, really one of the best showcases of dynamic AI of all time not always found in most games of its kind. It's completely free and can be downloaded here: http://www.interactivestory.net/

Another game I recommend is Mount & Blade, which appears to be a typical hack-n-slash rpg at first, but if you look deeper, you see an excellent horse-riding mechanic being put to great use on the battlefield, almost like a real battle. The action is medieval based and quite epic, regardless of wins or losses. It's backed by a strong modding community, almost in the level of Neverwinter Nights, as well as great developer support that is always adding new features to the game.

For those of you that are suggesting Dungeon Keeper.. should I play part 1 or 2?
I'd always suggest the first. The humour was more apparent, and the gameplay somewhat better (though with more micromangement - anyone else remeber the headaches trying to keep a couple of hornys content in an otherwise busy dungeon?)

But, saying that, apart from the character sprites, it looks like shit-on-a-stick nowadays.

Dungeon Keeper 2 looks a whole lot better, but has less charm. There's less variety in the creatures available (they're almost all bipeds), and they have less 'character' than they used to (the imps don't go 'na ha ha', mistress' screams aren't half as kinky, the demon spawn and dragons are gone, and the Lord of Realm isn't as much of an uptight prick).

Try the first, if you can't get over the crappy graphics, give the second a go.

During a scouring of one of my morning websites, I came across a serious beauty...alright, it's not much to look at since it's a Nethack style Rougelike game, but it's Doom! If you've never had reason to try out a RL, now you do. The keybindings are simple, the interface is simple, the graphics are simple. The whole game is simple, yet pretty good fun in my books. It's even made me want to check out Nethack, which I may still do, once I've stopped killing imps and Mancubi for a little bit! Linky linky = http://doom.chaosforge.org/index.php?module=downloads

edit: The word simple has lost meaning for me now.

I play several games that are nowhere near the mainstream, but for a space sim I would have to recommend X3: Reunion. If you play it, though, you have to be prepared to check the forums for help, because the learning curve is like a brick wall. I haven't progressed too far in this game yet, but I can tell you that for almost anything you'd want to do in a game like this, it's either built in or someone's made a mod for it. You can build a trading empire, wipe out bands of pirates, and I think, with a mod, even take over the galaxy. You can get it off Steam for $20, and I highly recommend checking it out.
