Well, this is something. There's a new troll group on facebook, 'Cancer is funny, because people die'. Now, the creator has been receiving a lot of death threats, so I took it upon myself to tell everyone to just ignore the troll and stop feeding him, adding in a digression that people becoming this enraged over an obvious troll is slightly disturbing. This was my comment:

Wow, this is dark. This page is an obvious attention seeking grab, and the person who put it up is a dick, but what's really terrifying is the comments section. People are apparently at all times only a sentence away from threatening someone who they have never met with death, or worse, just because they made a blatantly offensive page. I'm not condoning the page, but people REALLY need to stop acting like murder will solve anything. It's a worrying sign that people are so easily aggravated, and a hair-raising look into our own society that people consider murder to be justified if a person is being a dick. Just ignore him, he'll realise that this kind of behaviour isn't cohesive to civilised society and leave it behind him.

Now, afterwards, a guy told me in the comments that I should kill myself. So, what do you think? Am I in the wrong here, or what?

First problem is you tried to play peace maker on the internet. But no your not in the wrong you bring attention to the fact that is a troll that just wants to get a rise out of people/piss them off. The thing is no matter what you say on the internet there will always be one person out there saying stupid stuff. Why? Because of anonymity on the internet. No one really has to "pay" for what they say on the internet. Hence that why there are alot of assholes and trolls on it.

Never assume rationality when dealing with the internet, especially Facebook. The Escapist is was one of those rare little Bubbles of maturity and niceness that even reddit fails to emulate, when we go out blinking into the sun and gaze across the landscapes of teh tinter webs, we need to realise that people will always shoot the messenger who makes them feel bad, or be racist.

What gets me is how many idiots there are in the comments.
Welcome to the internet!

The people writing all that shit couldn't care less about what they're saying and don't mean it literally, they just want to see someone get all worked up about it and annoy someone, anyone at all.

Yeah, I've seen one called Dead Baby Jokes [https://www.facebook.com/pages/Controversial-Humor-Dead-Baby-Jokes/422912285264] which is a legitimate, if dark, type of humour. An example of a dead baby joke would be...

How many babies does it take to paint a house?
Depends on how hard you throw them.

The amount of outrage and death threats on that page is staggering.

Those are just empty words comming from people who cant stand any opininion than might differ from theirs. There will always be atleast one person who will disagree with anything and if you add to that the anonymity of the internet, you get all kinds of dimwitted responses.

In short, with anonymity the douchebags come out of the woodwork. Just ignore it because if it bothers you then they achieved their objective.

Oh, dead baby jokes. I know so many of you. Me and my friends went through a huge dead baby joke phase in high school.

What's worse than 10 dead babies in a garbage can?
1 dead baby in 10 garbage cans!

I think you should kill yourself

Sorry, couldn't resist. The problem with the internet is that you have no accountability over your views, so we all tend to over-react, since there is no social pressure to tone down our responses or act reasonably.

This also means people don't actually have to bother fully understanding the things they are talking about, because if they get it wrong, they can just ignore the people calling them out, so many people don't bother to read through a post and think about it, they just post their first knee jerk reaction, because 50,000 people also want to share their opinion, meaning on the internet speed is far more important than accuracy and wisdom, because everyone needs to hear your opinion, even if it's something that has been already posted 50 different times already, by people who put a lot more effort into their posts than you.this post brought to you by an extremely hypocritical guy, whose opinion is really important.

What's the difference between a garbage truck full of bowling balls and a garbage truck full of dead babies?

You can't empty the bowling balls with a pitchfork.

I would post my usual happy face but I don't think it would be appropriate...

On topic, I think the people sending in death threats were overreacting and the gentleman that suggested your suicide (who I'm sure is a very pleasant person) is about the craziest of them all.

The page itself isn't very copasheshy, but it's there and I don't see any reason to be enraged about it. If the guy started directly insulting cancer patients, then I could see a need for whiplash. But for now, live and let live and what-not.

Actually, what pissed me off as well is a comment complaining that Facebook wasn't banning them because it didn't break any rules, as if they should just change whenever anyone is pissed off.

Ooh, now a guy is threatening to murder ME after calling him out on his homicidal tendencies. So I asked him to find if he could.

None of it is worth the effort. It's not worth the effort to respond to trolls, it's not worth worrying about the people who troll you.

Let this be a lesson to you, never get in the middle of a stupid internet conflict. My policy is to sit on the sidelines and watch in silence. I reiterate, it is not worth the effort to get involved.

Should've brought the popcorn and watched this unfold. There's nothing you can do to change it, so make the most of it.
