Well, this is something. There's a new troll group on facebook, 'Cancer is funny, because people die'. Now, the creator has been receiving a lot of death threats, so I took it upon myself to tell everyone to just ignore the troll and stop feeding him, adding in a digression that people becoming this enraged over an obvious troll is slightly disturbing. This was my comment:

Wow, this is dark. This page is an obvious attention seeking grab, and the person who put it up is a dick, but what's really terrifying is the comments section. People are apparently at all times only a sentence away from threatening someone who they have never met with death, or worse, just because they made a blatantly offensive page. I'm not condoning the page, but people REALLY need to stop acting like murder will solve anything. It's a worrying sign that people are so easily aggravated, and a hair-raising look into our own society that people consider murder to be justified if a person is being a dick. Just ignore him, he'll realise that this kind of behaviour isn't cohesive to civilised society and leave it behind him.

Now, afterwards, a guy told me in the comments that I should kill myself. So, what do you think? Am I in the wrong here, or what?
Alot of the time when someone ses they want to kill you over the internt it means they slightly dislike you and disagree strongly with what you said, they don't actually want to kill you. RVB summed it up perfectly "hyperbole is the internets native language"

First off, no I don't think you're in the wrong in any way and I hope at least one of them stops being stupid because of your comment but I must say I'm not surprised either. Two comments I've read on youtube over the last two days have been telling the creator of the video that they're completely unfunny and should kill themselves and end their completely pathetic life.

Not only were these two of the most popular people on youtube but you have to ask why they went to that because they didn't like what they saw. I mean there's not liking something, there's HATING something and then there's knowing something is so bad then the person who made it should clearly die and the first half of the people's comment suggests it might only just be close to the second one and yet the second half of their comment suggests it's the third thing. I mean is it a coping mechanism for people with no self-esteem or is it a subconscious troll or is it just a hyperbole because they can say whatever they like on the internet? Sorry for the rant but these people just plain old confuse me. I can't even say I hate them and not just because that would make me a hypocrite. ;)

Seriously, anyone who trolls on the internet needs to learn that no one ever gets mad about it, and cap doesn't suddenly mean their angry, just raising their point.
I think they're going for the people who start recording themselves crying and breaking down on webcam.

There are a huge amount of them, people honestly do get really worked up over words they read on the internet.
People get worked up about a lot of things and if they are triggered by blank words on a monitor they have some deep emotional ties to it and as such it OK for them to get worked up about it.

My point, is that the average joe will go "Well this ain't right" and then walk away, no matter how he does it doesn't constitute true rage, just him camly going "Well this is stupid" even if he's calling your a dumb fuck.

Oh, dead baby jokes. I know so many of you. Me and my friends went through a huge dead baby joke phase in high school.

What's worse than 10 dead babies in a garbage can?
1 dead baby in 10 garbage cans!
I'm sorry but I would have to disagree.
Based on a fairly common moral code present in the majority of humanity I'd say that number of deaths outweighs any gruesome post or perimortem treatment of the body. Thus the death and casual discarding of ten infants would by most moral codes outweigh the death of a single infant, no matter how the body was treated afterwards.
Of course we are assuming that all died in the same way. Were the 10 babies natural deaths that were disposed of in a way that most would again find callous and the single baby was killed deliberately then the child killed by deliberate human action would likely cause more outrage.
I await your rebuttal good sir.
I think that joke would have worked a lot better with the word "dead" removed.

You JUST SAID we shouldn't draw attention to blatant trolls? And what are you going making a thread about this?

Do you think he is really serious with his suggesting suicide? As if it would do anything other than TROLL you!

It's a case of troll vs troll. They say something hurtful but baseless then people say something hurtful but baseless in return.

All you did wrong was try to use reason on the internet. Nay, on Facebook. You should really stop doing that, you're only going to depress yourself. Accept that the greater internet fuckwad theory will prevail in all things, ready your popcorn, sit back and enjoy the retard parade.

So you took it upon yourself to stop feeding the troll by feeding the trolls and all his fellow troglodytes, and then making a thread on an unrelated forum about it?

Pfft. Oh wow that's funny. What a great...No, wait, you're serious? Have you seen half the shit that gets posted on here? Repeatedly? Month after month after month? Until it becomes banned to talk about it in the general forum?
Perhaps that should be rephrased to "mature and nice by the standards of the internet".

Things can get ugly here sure, but it's no 4chan.

Well, there's yer problem.

The internet is a giant network of circle-jerks, and Facebook is the largest. Everyone is trying to "convince" everyone else of their way of thinking, and no one came to be convinced. So, those who agree praise each other, those who disagree condemn each other.

Thing is a lot of people lose people to cancer, thus rendering it no longer a joke but a reminder. Dead baby jokes are dark, yes, but it is not something that happens to a large number of people and not in the ways the "jokes" imply. Still sick, yes, but cancer is much more real and anyone who has, or has lost someone to, cancer simply can't look past the joke.

I know I can't. Its the pictures that angered me. Does the creator deserve to die? No. Does he deserve to have cancer brought into their life - hell yes.

NO U SUX DIX! Don't feed trolls. That's what you did. The internet is just one big hate monster that spews racism and cat piss, and you don't question it.

I don't think anyone that lost a baby would agree with you. Is there a set number of people that have to be affected before a joke becomes too offensive? In 2009 something like 1 in every 233 babies born in the United States died before their first month was over. Going by numbers would be a strange test for offensiveness, but I could visualize a chart running from the common and offensive like influenza, to the rare and inoffensive like ebola.

I would say to the OP that he is wasting his time trying to mediate internet bullshit. People are always going to troll, and some people are always going to fall for said troll. Trying to intervene with logic will only turn those internet rage-aholics on you. Life is too short to waste it on stupids.

Your first mistake was feeding the initial troll. Thats why a second one showed up. Next time leave stupidity to its own devices, mother nature will teach it a lesson soon enough.

That does bring up the question of why that is...

It's actually a little disheartening that people would rather waste precious seconds of their life threatening and being angry over the internet then actually... ya know, do something productive with their free time.

Not in the wrong, people are just stupid. There was a guy who made a joke about Maddie McCann (child disappearance, was quite big) by saying a joke about a submarine and comparing it to her. He received death threats. I, being the arsehole I am pointed out how the people giving him the death threats were just as bad, if not worse, considering one is poking fun and the other is promising to perform a horrible crime.

I got told I was next on the list. Its been a year, i'm still waiting. I hope the guy tries. Nothing is funnier than an angry keyboard warrior in real life.
