My input is the later Guitar Hero/Rock Band games.
Also the Madden games. I don't think I've ever seen someone defend the Madden franchise on this forum.

I can understand hate for Resistance (although i did enjoy it, it's not a favourite, plus i haven't played the second)

Oblivion- Yeah... did have a lot of bugs, i had to reset my level 30 character once, and ended up losing items on another, but still a very enjoyable experience (i haven't even completed the main quest and i'ts my most played game)

inFamous- I hear a lot of people complain about the Karma choices, but they didn't really bother me so much, i does get repetitive, but i think it stays fresh enough for most of the time.
Plus lightning storm is AMAZING!

Killzone 2- Yet again with the implementation! And the balancing... i found those things to be fine and not an issue.
Maybe you're talking about the multiplayer, in which case i can agree with you on that (tried it once, since i only just started i had a pistol AND ONLY A PISTOL while the higher levels were running around with Assualt Rifles.

The Uncharted series- *rolls eyes* You have a thing for implementation and balancing don't you?

I found both of those titles to be great games with a nice balance of different gameplays, like the puzzles and the climbing, plus i found the shooting to be good.

Team Fortress 2- As a person who never played the original thing in which TF2 spawned from, or a person who has played online with the updated version, i cannot comment.

I'm not one for Triple A games so much to begin with, but games like Too Human and Duke Nuke-'Em: Forever are both fairly widely considered failures while working under the title of a "Triple A" game. The Triple A game isn't necessarily well received, it's generally a term for a big-budget, high-profile game that's expected to sell well regardless of ratings.

Nnnn...maybe I should have clarified. I don't mean what games are popular that people like to hate on. Just like...

Let's say Superman 64 got a 9/10 across the board. Something like that. A shit game that got rave reviews.

That is a LOT of games, what games DO you like. You've covered pretty much every genre there! Now, I want you to give me a reason for your hate, on EVERY game on the list individually. I also want you to tell me if you have even played half of the games on that list.

OT: I would say, that NO AAA games are good, nor terrible. Some ones I hate, but that is in my eyes. Some ones everyone hates, but that still doesn't mean there terrible because someone will always like a game.

These are terrible AAA games, they aren't terrible games but they have no right to be called AAA when they try to be two things at once (most of them) and thus kill one of those things in exchange for the other or they just try too hard or too little.

Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Gears of War 3 (Yeah I went there.)
Halo Reach (Hello my name is multiplayer and I am the entire basis of this game)
Last Remnant
Blue Dragon
Eternal Sonata
Call of Duty (Every other)
Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer 4
StarCraft 2
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
Dragon Age 2
Resistance (All of them)
Civilization V
Aeon
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
The Witcher (But was it AAA?)
Quake IV
Killzone
Killzone 2
Killzone 3
Prototype
Uncharted
Uncharted 2
inFamous
Metal Gear Solid 4
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Halo Wars (All it has for it is the cinematics)
Team Fortress 2
Counterstrike (Don't get me started)
I think he posted in the wrong thread, of the games there that can be considered AAA none got "spectacular" reviews and the rest are average non AAA titles.

I'm going to go ahead and bold all of the non AAA titles for reference.

Although there are a few outliers there that are well received AAA titles with good reviews.

I've always thought GTA IV was crap. And not because of my feelings towards the previous games, its just rubbish.

Final Fantasy XII and XIII, and probably XIII-2. However, I'll admit I'm basing it off of the other Final Fantasy direct sequel.

Resident Evil 5. It is the worst game that is good. I mean it is good. But compared to other good games, it sucks.

You're smoking crack.
No, no he isn't. (For the most part, at least)
I tried playing Uncharted to see what the buzz was about. I was disappointed to find out that it is fairly crap in the story and gameplay departments.
Killzone 2 is a generic FPS, while GoW is a generic TPS.
Left 4 Dead 2 is a rushed out sequel which ruined pretty much everyhing the first game stood for. And then promptly ruined the first game, giving all the content to people who owned Left 4 Dead 2.
The only Call of Duty that didn't suck was Modern Warfare.
Team Fortress 2 got ruined by microtransactions (some might not share this point of view).
Counter Strike was pretty bad from when it came out years ago.

I find it hilarious the amount of people have missed the point of this thread. Clearly people have just read the title and not the OP and just came in belting out AAA game they hate.

Like this one.

Final Fantasy 7 and up.
So Final Fantasy 7 is universally hated by the gaming community is it? That's why it's considered the best one by most people. And before you say I'm defending it, I'm not I think it's one of the most overrated games in gaming.

Is that in the gaming community of make believe?

Read the damn OP people. Here's a bit of it for you.

Are there any AAA games that have gotten really high score from critics, but the gaming community has near-universally derided as being horrible?

Ninja Gaiden for X-Box - It wasn't that it was too hard, but it was very generic and forgetable.
Metal Gear Solid (all of em) - The controlls are too complicated for my tastes, and the story / characters are just too convoluted for me.

Here are all the not-so AAA listers. The ones highlighted in bold were critically wrong and had nothing going for them; all others had potential or should have been good given more time in development.

Gears of War
Call of Duty 3,5,6,7
Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer 4

World of Warcraft: TBC
Dragon Age 2
Quake IV
Killzone's
Prototype
inFamous
Halo Wars
Lost Planet 1,2
Unreal Tournament 3
(all others were phenomenally good)
Fallout: New Vegas
Devil May Cry 4
Far Cry 2

TC's End War
SC: Conviction

Some of these I enjoyed. Others I despised, some had sequels/prequels I love; others I do not. So don't judge. It annoys me to no end when a game franchise I liked gets ruined by a horrid sequel (UT, DA2, C&C, CoD).

Hmm... I guess Starcraft 2 was snubbed by the majority of the South Korean audience because it wasn't as tournament friendly as SC1.
That's all I can think of...

Its a opinion, its not fact, as I like different games then YOU do. Most if not ALL AAA games or series are literally just feeding fans, being a argonian, you should notice this in Oblivion, it will play back for fans. The only exception is Saints Row 3, because it puts ONE thing above everything else that has been lacking in the industry for years, player choice. By god they did one thing right and thats player choice.
Trying to answer the OP's question is, again, opinions, there is NO WAY to really answer it outside of CoD and Halo hate. Can YOU think of one that is universally hated? I sure can't beyond the generic answer. Whenever a thread like this appears, people just list AAA games they do not like, because the answer is quite bland and has not a lot of discussion matter beyond answers which take a while to get.

So, can you come up with one?

Final Fantasy X-2.

Now, if you feel there isn't a lot of discussion value in these kinds of threads why bother posting in them? Coming in and just listing games you hate isn't answering the OP's question, so what's the point in posting in the first place?

Don't you think this thread is getting a little silly, I mean there is actually very bad games that are horrible to play like Deus Ex: Invisible War, Kane and Lynch 2 and Daikatana

I won't even put Final Fantasy 13 and Dragon Age 2 on that list becuase although I disliked them I know a lot of people enjoyed them.

By listing the game that you personally don't like becuase of preference you are clouding the issue of actual 'bad' games. I think the problem is that actual bad games are forgotten very easily.

If so:

XCOM (reboot)
i disagree. i watched some gameplay video, and it surprisingly looked pretty good, one just has to throw away the "it's XCOM, it's supposed to be a strategy game!!!" approach (and all the x-com world facts with it). it's got the name only because creating "new franchise" is so "risky" these days...
