Silent Hill, the original; just after the terrible nightmare of staggering down an ally way, and beset by demon children, you're given free roam of the first suburb of the town of Silent Hill. In your stumbling around town, you're hinted at things, and eventually clued into locating three items to gain access to this house, which is the only way to cross chasms created in the streets of the town.
If it was your first time playing, or you haven't played in some years, that part of the game is dull, boring, and I fell asleep playing it my first time. It was also the games first demo when it initially came out. A demo my friend played, and decided the game was awful. I had to convince him by making him play the parts before it that the game was worth while as a whole. That one area was the only hurdle standing between a jaw dropping experience (in its day).
Whenever I think of good games that have sour patches, Silent Hill 1 comes to mind immediately.
