So I was playing through Metro 2033, and having a lot of fun with it. But then I came to the amoeba part, the fucking amoeba part. That part was one of the most nightmarishly frustrating rooms I've ever seen in a game. It's really a shame too because the rest of the game was excellent and it really drags down the game to have a part this annoying and sloppy that close to the conclusion.

So, what are some parts you guys thought were terrible in otherwise great games?
holy crap im stuck in that part.

Really? I thought they were quite well done and I enjoyed them very much.

What was it that got on your goat?
The controls are WAY too sensitive making it difficult to steer.

You crash into the slightest obstacle.

And it took a while before i got used to the fact that you control your head with the mouse and steer with the keyboard. It was especially annoying when
you were being chased by ant lions and was expected to shot them with a laser canon.

That ment that everytime you wanted to shoot an ant lion to the side you don't see where you're heading.
There is no way of controlling you car when you use "Turbo".

This is a minor point but it's annoying and immersion breaking when you don't see the rest of Freeman's body. It makes you realise that you are just a flying camera.

But the pacing was excellent.

Personally, I enjoyed Halo: Combat Evolved. I still regard The Library as one of the most horrid levels in history, though. Did this even seem like a good idea at the time?
This x100000, I love that game with a passion, but that level SUCKED. Same goes for the cortana level and Halo 3.
Ohhh! The Cortana level was the worst in the entire series.

I misread the title of this thread: I thought it said terrible pants in great games. I like my thread better so I am going to carry on regardless and say that stupid kid who was the lead character in Final Fantasy X. Good game, stupid cut off pants/shorts things that looked retarded.

Feel free to carry on without me.

What's wrong with the Cortana level in Halo 3? It's hard, but not beyond what you should be capable of. And although I don't like having my gameplay stopped to see Cortana/Gravemind give me exposition, I think it's a decent way of weaving in plot during gameplay instead of going back and forth.

I'll list some from RPG's... why not?

- Dragon Age: The Fade portion of the Circle of Magi quest

The Fade in Dragon Age: Origins, the one hiccup in an otherwise brilliant game. If you're not a magic user it's just so bloody difficult.
I feel more and more like a person from different planet. I mean, for me DA: O was a huge disappointment. I bought this game at a full price thinking 'game by BG, NWN, KotOR and Mass Effect people. It has to be brilliant, there is no other way.' Well, I think I wasted my money, because it was... an ok RPG when I expected A LOT more from it. 'Nothing special' combat which was piss easy even on hard, boring story with absolutely no interesting plot twists, generic fantasy world. What the hell? It was nice to play and stuff, but nothing more than 7+, maybe 8/10 material. It lacked any awesome fragments.

And Fade was IMO then only 'AWESOME' fragment, which made a fairly good game brilliant at least for a while. Finally a quest which is way more creative than 'go there, slay 100 darkspawn take an item/talk to the guy, and go back'. Lot's of fun with shape changing, some nice backstory in the dreams of your companions (Morrigan and Sten have probably the best ones). Finally (for a moment) this is an RPG which is worth the praise everyone gives to it.

I finished the game with a bad taste in my mouth and vowed to never buy any of other Dragon Age games (if they'll come out), unless one of my pals will beat it first and tell me there is more gameplay parts a'la Fade.

And now I hear the fans of this game consider it to be the worst part of it. What the heck?

Snip
I never found the controls too sensitive but maybe because i have a touch so soft that butterflys fly towards me hoping for a delicate tickle of their wings.

I do see your point with the not being able to see ol' Gordies body parts being a total immersion breaker...all games that fail to show body parts annoy me.

I wanna say Arcadia in Bioshock 1, but that isn't really fair- I just hated it for some reason.
So I'll default back to my...um...default answer and say "Any game that decided to shove an escort/defence mission at me".

Silent Hill, the original; just after the terrible nightmare of staggering down an ally way, and beset by demon children, you're given free roam of the first suburb of the town of Silent Hill. In your stumbling around town, you're hinted at things, and eventually clued into locating three items to gain access to this house, which is the only way to cross chasms created in the streets of the town.

If it was your first time playing, or you haven't played in some years, that part of the game is dull, boring, and I fell asleep playing it my first time. It was also the games first demo when it initially came out. A demo my friend played, and decided the game was awful. I had to convince him by making him play the parts before it that the game was worth while as a whole. That one area was the only hurdle standing between a jaw dropping experience (in its day).

Whenever I think of good games that have sour patches, Silent Hill 1 comes to mind immediately.

I'm going to look like an idiot for posting about MW2 but I will anyway. I don't care for the multiplayer as much compared to COD 4, but mw2's single player is awesome, except for that damn Favela level, that made me want to rip my eyes out.
I totally agree. I completed the game on veteran a while back and while the rest of the campaign was obviously harder, this was insane. Especially coming so early, it breaks the flow if you have to do it so many times and nearly made me rage quit and give up on it

Ok... here's a small list.
- The asteroid part of Dead Space, took me about twenty tries and some rage-quits to do.
- The parts of Tenchu Z that force you into a fight with really bad combat.
- The Final boss in Tekken 6's arcade... I've only beaten it once with cheap moves.
- The numerous bugs in Armored Core For Answer + the battle that pits you against 4 or 5 NEXTS at once with a team-mate that dies quickly.
- The Storm-elites near the end of MoH: Airborne. Those guys were made to piss people off.
Edit: Now that I think about it:
- The battle against Red-Eye in LP2 on hard. the Railway-gun moves too damn slow... took about half an hour on just that part by myself.

There's more that could go here but that's all I can think of.

Although the mission in Iraq in Splinter Cell: Conviction did break the flow... a lot... it was interesting.

"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!"

SOTN had horrific dialog, but it's such a great platformer/adventure/rpg.

Because everyone else is mentioning it, the fade. Soooo damn boring.

Also the escort quests in Morrowind. They move so damn slowly!
Holy damn it you're right! Those were so terrible. The worst was in the main quest when you have to escort the Wise Woman to Sheogorath's shrine... across water... Seriously? You're bringing water into this already horrible mechanic? Kill me now.
Easy way to to that mission:
1. Get epic armor and weapons. (pre-this stuff, get a spell or item for water walking)
2. Get quest
3. Go to place and murder EVERYTHING.
4. Go back to woman, get her to follow, BAM, quest done, no harm to her, free stuff, all is well :D

The worst part of a good game, I think, was making Onaga in MK Deception ridiculously impossible to beat.
The ONLY way I can beat him is to choose Liu Kang, then grab a Kamidogu and spam the Flying Bicycle Kick, A.K.A "WADIDIDIDIIDDAAAAAA!!!!' kicks
