Aw man, I'm gonna study nanotech...
It's true that nanobots can destroy the Earth if used for evil, but so much technology can say the same.
Yeah. Anyone else remember the terrorism shit we got after the invention of VHS?
No? Weird.

Anyway, so Mexican terrorists... are they hiding the bombs under their big sombreros and ponchos, evilly twisting their thick moustaches?
I don't know much about Mexico.

It's true that nanobots can destroy the Earth if used for evil, but so much technology can say the same. I was hoping to use it to cure all diseases... I don't think terrorism is the way to get people to their cause.
Isn't that what made the zombies in numerous ways? Saying they found a cure for restoring life's cells, curing all diseases, but turning them into zombies later? or mutated smart apes, or mutating limb-shooting prototype? :p sounds like we got this department filled with enough tales already?

Also, ethical question, wouldn't curing every disease make the people problem much much larger?
That's what wars are for. We're due for a big one.

Everything that exists in science fiction must inevitably become real it seems. And with that, I am headed to my bed. Wake me up when computer program universes are spitting out Olivia Wildes for all to enjoy.

Nanobots don't even exist yet.
Facepalm.
I think that's kinda their point. (Not that they have one mind you BUT they seem to be intent on never seeing them built)

God, I can see it now on FOX.

"Terrorists inspired by videogame to attack nanoresearch labs!"

Aren't nanobots just tiny robots. You didn't need to blow the lab up guys. on the off chance things got out of hand you could just brake out the magnets.
They are targeting nanotech, not nanobots. Nanotech encompasses working with sizes between 1 and 100 nanometers. But that doesn't necessarily mean robots, you can also make (for instance) circuits with it, along with many other things, Being a bit anal here, but huge difference. Also, you wouldn't see the nanobots.

So unless you are going to walk around with a "Magnet armor"...
So not only is this rag-tag group of Luddites crazy, but they're also misinformed about which tech would cause their doomsday scenario? Stupid terrorists are fun.

I would like to experience some amount of satisfaction when I say "I so fucking called it", but it's really more of the same sense of disappointment I get every time I read the comments of people on this site who are panicking about the latest development in genetic engineering or AI and robotics research.

Thank you very much, writers and journalists who've made it their mission to get back at science and technology for being "boring" (for them anyway) and hard to understand by writing an endless stream of stories about how evil and dangerous science and technology are.

Can you at least hold off on inciting people to bomb the LHC until after we discover the Higg's Boson? It would suck if we got that close to understanding and utilizing the things that give rise to gravity, perhaps even developing things straight out of Mass Effect, only to have a bunch of assholes bomb it because they were driven mad by the black hole hype.

I work in nano research. The sad truth about nanoscience is that it can broadly be summarized as chemistry. Sometimes physics. Theres no offensive nanorobots, and no methods to even consider them.

Terrorists have launched a bombing campaign against international nanotechnology research centers, warning that modified nanoviruses or "gray goo" have the potential to wipe out all life on Earth.
Looks like they get their science and technology news from the Escapist.

By saying "nano-viuses" aren't they implying that virus were not nano-sized before human intervention?

Protip;

Trying to bomb labs containing things you fear will escape due to error and etc, going out of your way to accidentally a whole containment field trying to stop them, makes you a complete and utter idiot.

Hahaha, I laughed at that.

They specifically listed an 'explosion' as one of the ways the machines could escape, haha.

Jeez-us...nit a good time to both have my avatar and be Mexican. Woe me...

On top of all the monumental piles of shit we've going for us we now have sci-fi terrorist wannabes wanting their own slice of the pie? Woe us. I don't know what else to say.

I don't know if I want to make a huge rant about how many levels of wrong you are... or go to sleep in a corner while drinking lots of tequila and watch Speedy Gonzales pass by.

OT: How the fuck do you expect to "prevent" these evil thingies from spreading by bombing the places that hold them safely?...

Yeah, derpy terrorists are derpy.

As flawed as their logic is and as deplorable as their actions are, I have to say I really dig the name "individuals tending towards savagery."
