[HEADING=2]Hatred for the TES community, but why?[/HEADING]

I don't understand how some people can hate on the TES community. We're the only community that does a healthy dose of trolling, not the fuck-fest of bickering and trolling EVERY OTHER online community does. We're self-loathing, but that's nothing in comparison with some of the WoW / DotA / LoL communities; [PersonalRage]we ARE more intelligent & older than the average CoD community, but that's because our minds can comprehend scale and acknowledge a respectful product[/PersonalRage]; and we're not braggers / bitchers beyond the tiring GotY chant, not unlike what my ex-Halo community was, but less extreme.

We're an internet community, you can't get away from that - but quite possibly the most enjoyable one to be in. Most of us have a good gaming history, a portion of us do charitable things for our favoured series such as mods, instead of trying to rip it apart from the inside with hacks; and we chat stories and tips to each other for use in-game instead of shunting insults around and getting into comment-spars. I can almost certainly start up a discussion about "the good old times"[footnote]Yeah sure the good old times were good, but the now-times can be just as good (topic for another discussion, no this one).[/footnote] in any TES related thread; and you get good response without people screaming at each other - try that anywhere else other than segments of WoW, Unreal Tournament or Splinter Cell(I tried to bring up CoD 1 in a BO forum); and you get the cold-shoulder. or the Fanboy inslt. treatment.

Surely if you're hating on the TES community without an explanation (or a lousy one) it's just jealousy or a hatred for popular games success.[footnote]A penny for every time I heard that[/footnote] [footnote]Haha, this sentence is self-loathing irony, but yet so, so true - I understand dislike for the game where valid points are brought up, but that doesn't really seem to be the case, which is why we're here on this discussion.[/footnote]

Discussion value: What community would you consider yourself apart of & if you dislike the TES community - honestly, why?[footnote]Another footnote? Saying "because it's everywhere" is not valid; don't fucking read / watch it then. That's what I did for CoD during the year of MW2.[/footnote]

[small]Note:
- "Opinions" is a non-valued answer, I know it's "Opinions" but what are those "opinions" to begin with?
- Also, saying "it's buggy" is an acceptable answer; but a bottom tier one at that. If you decide this is your answer then you must also truthfully admit you're not a programmer and lack any & all debugging knowledge; so I can mentally tally up how many people hate on a game for things they don't understand. You can partially redeem yourself by reading my post here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.331923-The-Elder-Scrolls-modders-amazes-me?page=2#13466997] on how "buggy" is not a valid form of slating some games, but can be used against others justifiably.[/small]

EDIT: haha gotta love forums. Threads never come out the way you intended them to and discussions diverge into something you didn't want. Guess I deserve it / had it coming.
Time for me to post in the "Open minded" thread ah?

Well, I consider myself part of the overall gaming community.
I play almost every kind of game. (I'm just not so much into sports games, and the Sims. (Not that I don't play them at all, I just tend to get bored with them faster.))
Also, I love TES.
People probably just don't like the arrow-to-knee meme that's popping up everywhere. They should probably just ignore it of they don't like it, instead of focussing on it.

Also, I am a programmer. (Or a student in the arts at least.)

Same, I'm a programmer so-to-speak; I've been gaming for 15 years, I got to agree the meme is tiresome and I think From Dust should be GotY. But have noticed on the past few Skyrim threads I've been to, there's been some pretty shoddy hate towards the game, enough to incite me to make this thread. Call it a limitation of mine, but I just want some answers from the people who spew out the hate. I don't plan on arguing if the reason is fair. I just wan't some damn understanding for the hate!

Honestly my main gripe is simply the arrow to the knee jokes that are freaking everywhere right now but I expect that to go away in a few months...scratch that I hope that settles down in a few months. Actually I just read point 4 and I will argue that because once again IT'S FREAKING EVERYWHERE. If I wanted to avoid it I would have to get off my computer for a year and I'm not doing that because a bunch of people want to run a joke 3 miles below hell. Also your post comes off very pretentious so that doesn't help your case. I've never had a problem with someone over there is that.
EDIT: Tell me you did NOT make this thread because of me. I edited my original post to clarify that in my other page.

Inb4 the arrow to the knee people.

Some people just don't like getting trolled in any way shape or form, and find the arrow to the knee jokes annoying. Its also not the sort of thing of 'Don't like it don't watch' in these cases, as they get bought up in almost any thread. I can understand how it could be annoying to some

Me? I love them, and TES games as a whole. I am a part of the gaming community as a whole, I do not owe my loyalty to any one game or genre, and switch between both at a rate of 3 times a month or more (Yes, I am rather erratic with my gaming).

That, and there will be some people, probably fewer here than in other places, that will just hate anything that isn't what they like. "Skyrim, its not CoD so its shit" I've seen written before in other places, or at least a version of that with very poor grammar and !?$*#( added in. Some people will hate anything that isn't what they love. (Please note, whilst the example bought up was CoD, it was caused by the unfortunate circumstance of the person who said this being a CoD fanboy. This can, and does, happen for other games too, and does not reflect the opinions of every CoD fan).

Edit: DAMNIT, ninjad as I typed...

Ive never had any contact with the TES community so their is no need to hate although the:

"we ARE more intelligent & older than the average CoD community, but that's because our minds can comprehend scale and acknowledge a respectful product"
Comment doesnt paint your community in a good light. It comes across as arrogant.

Apart from the escapist the only other thing I post about is Bloodbowl on the PC and I admin in one of the bigger online leagues so I guess thats a community. Most seem to be 30 years+ and miserable bastards, but not without their own charm. Just go with what interests you (as long as its legal) and dont worry about how others view it.

That came off as sounding a bit pretentious. Intentional or not, it's basically saying (to me) "we rule, the (common rabble) outside of our fanbase (or part of those "other" fanbases) is dumb".

I... what?

Dude, what the hell? Was that unintelligible jumble supposed to mean something? I've seen garbled posts in my time, but that read like something typed in tandem by three drunk ferrets.

The only thing I got out of it was that you're not braggers, you're just more mature, intelligent and have better taste than everyone else who is just bitter and jealous.

Yeech.

Intelligent & older than the average CoD community

That's why I dislike the more vocal fans some of you are just arrogant pricks, "I like a different game then you therefore I am more intelligent"

Umm...so I got a question. You know all those games you listed, out of all those and TES "Which of these is not like the others?"
I'll give you a good minute.

Back and no answer?

TES is a single player game, the rest you've listed Halo, LoL, WoW, DoTA, CoD are all multiplayer games. Communities exist around them, and rightfully so, because they have ever changing meta games that require the discussion and analysis of what is the best/ most successful in the competitive multiplayer environment.

There really is no need for such a community for TES, maybe there is a modding community in terms of people gathering together to exchange their knowledge of how and what to mod, but that doesn't include the common fan of the game and differs from the other games' communities that you mentioned.

Rather I think that people are just fans (see fanbase) of TES and really don't fit into an overarching community.
That said, your post comes off really pretentious, it basically says to everyone else "we're better than you why do you hate us for that?" Why make such a post?

Oh no; Your thread was fine - it was a genuine question and not a hating.
It was posts within threads like these [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.331852-Skyrim-has-the-best-cover-art-EVER] that sparked me to make this thread. Our compromise on your thread was about your thread; My post there was mildly invalid to your OP on it but is is a valid explanation on how bugs are in larger videogames. Both of us agreed that there.

That's where you fall right into a hole there. I said the "Average Cod community" which I'm closely associated with. "Liking different games" comes under a completely different point in my OP and "intelligence" refers to the underages that are more-than-not commonly associated with that specific game series.

My statement is perfectly viable and you've found offence within it where there is none - hence you must like CoD, hence you must've misunderstood my point / classed yourself within that average, of which you are not. IT in no way relates to liking different games, which I represent within the footnotes if you bothered to apply that brain of yours to reading the rest of my perfectly inoffensive post.

It did come off sounding as a bit pretentious, but that's because it pretty much is. I've been banned for vocalising my opinions on the CoD forums before; so there's one grudge. MY favourite channel, machinima, is now flooded with CoD - another grudge. MY own brother; a person whom I used to play UT04 LAN with, only plays CoD. - Another grudge. I wouldn't drop that as arrogance of the TES community, but purely something personal; I was an avid member of some of those communities, of whom many I want to distance myself from. CoD incl.

That one line was a bit of a rage but it seemed to have brought down my whole thread, ah?

So you consider yourselves to be non-braggers, but brag about the fact that you seem to think you are above the intelligence of CoD players? And you know a better game than they would? A problem, methinks.

Edit: Basically, if this is a way for you to gather support for the TES community, then you haven't done a good job. You sound pretentious and a know it all. Also, since when do we dislike the TES community? Anti-skyrim threads are appearing because of the massive saturation of Skyrim threads, and "arrow in the knee" jokes.

Like I said, AVERAGE CoD player. Also like I said - bit of a personal rage from a build up of many grudges inflicted by that game series & its community. Most CoD players seem to have high-voices, or are as ignorant as me themselves. Though that was more of a slip up than downright ignorance.

Now, I've added some ragetags but I'm not changing the OP as that's like tampering with results. It's a personal thing and every arguements has to have its flaws.

Dumb thread, everyone is a part of the TES community. And if they don't consider themselves a part of it, then they can take comfort in the fact that they have bad taste in games.

I honestly want to know where this stereotype of a twelve year old kid screaming into his mike came from, or the fact that CoD players us retarded for not liking your game. It's just stupid. If you want your thread to have more of an impact, maybe get rid of that part.

Just about every damn match you play on that ... game. It's befitting for Halo, too, but not on as great a scale - but I gave Halo a more specific point instead.

I've got one sat across the other side of this house, a few in my Xbox friends list and quite a few on youtube; a large majority in fact. It seems the more mature you are, the more likely you are to vocalise on internet forums instead of xbox live or to just play a different online game. I got censored on CoD forums for explaining my dislike towards the game fairly, so I'm making a judgement post-censor & from personal experience.

All I got from this is "we're the best, why can't you see that?!"

I didn't know people don't like the TES community, and you know what? I don't care. Somebody dissed the community of a series of games you like, big fucking whoop. Talk about first world problems.
