3. Since it was released, 1000+ hours.
4. Besides chatting, both the voice and text kind, taunting is for communicating with the other team/an enemy when necessary!
5. Spy check! There is a lot, as is to be expected for any game this popular.
6. Random criticals. Especially the explosive kind. It's really an incentive not to play on 32-man servers that have criticals turned on.
7. There aren't specific people that make me angry as much as the ones who are incredibly lucky. And by lucky, I don't mean the people that get a hat a day. I mean the people that get a crit for every three hits. But then I'm not really angry with them...
8. My favourite has to be the Medic, seconded by the Heavy. I guess I don't enjoy playing Soldier very much.
9. The Medic calls himself a "Man of Science". I guess we have that in common. Which one of us is telling the truth is beyond me, however. I really don't have much in common with the Heavy...I guess I'm not much like the Soldier either.
10. My favourite mode has to be payload, and my least favourite King of the Hill, because you don't actually have to stand on the point in KotH to have it.
11. Never underestimate a flying Heavy.

1. What is your age?

14

2. what is your gender?

Male

3. How long have you been playing TF2?

2ish Years

4. As a player, what are some of the ways you interact with fellow TF2 players?

Wanring people where HVT's are

yelling at the kids that havent droped their balls to shut up

And just other teamwork aspects.

5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play?

Um, i can't think of any other than normal game lingo, i guess you have to know names and possitions.

6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game?

Fucking camping pyro NOOB.

7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"?

Stated above, oh and Sky Walkers.

8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be?

I don't have a favorite charactor, i use what i want at the time. My two top classes for time played however are Sniper and Engi.

My least favorite is probably heavy, too slow and too shit.

9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character?

Favorites: Sniper: I'm very patent. Engie: i'm redneck IRL.

Least favorites: heavy: I'm really strong for my age.

10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag?

I play on the 360 and PS3, so all we have are point capture and CTF.

I like them both, but point capture is definatly my favorite. Dustbowl FTW

11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win?

general teamwork really. sometimes I like to set up a turret at the last point in a really annoying spot (for the enemy) and get it to level 3.

sometime i like to snipe the Heavy/Medic combos so they dont uber us to death.

Sometimes just a level 2 sentry at the first point and my shotgun shooting everyone works. its really just to weed out the strays that make it past our defences.

2. Male, don't expect too many of the alternative.
3. Couple months to a year...
4. Voicechat...engaging in the hilariously irreverent conversations going on amidst all the fragging...gaming is the ultimate breeding grounds for bromance.
5. Spy {Insert suspiciously behaving TF2 class here}!!!
6. Staring at particle effects sends my framerate to hell...which is a problem when faced with rushing pyros.
7. Demomen who sticky-jump up into the most unlikely of places to rain hell down on you with grenade spam (pretty much equivalent to artillery).
8. Sniper or Spy...not my best, but the most challenging, and thus rewarding. Scout: poor health, little damage output.
9. I do things roundabout; my Algebra teacher was a Bostonian.
10. CTF and prophunt, least would be payload: gets way too hectic nearing the end.
11. This:

I play what I want, but when I see the team has no medics and is dying too much or it's taking too long to go from spawn to frontlines, I'll gladly heal or drop the teleporters necessary to do my part.

I'll play along.

1. What is your age?
27
2. what is your gender?
Male
3. How long have you been playing TF2?
I preordered the Orange Box specifically because it gave access to the TF2 beta, so just over two years?
4. As a player, what are some of the ways you interact with fellow TF2 players?
I use the microphone and emotes extensively. Mostly trying to convince a couple of our team's four snipers to switch to a class that would help our team win the game. There's always a lot of chatter going back and forth between a medic and his charge, as well as spy related stuff.
5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play?
Theres a lot of technical terms and map related shorthand. That should count.
6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game?
I really dislike it when teams play conservatively, waiting for their opponents to come to them. An aggressive, disruptive defense is far more effective than just camping at a choke point. The same goes for people hesitating on offense. When an uber comes up, the medic picks someone, charges and the entire team should fall in behind them, engies included.
7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"?
Stickybombing demomen are the primary cause of my grumbling. Also, superfluous snipers and cowardly teammates.
8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be?
My favorite would be the soldier because of his blend of firepower, range and mobility. Least would probably be the demoman as I simply don't enjoy his campy playstyle.
9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character?
I guess you might say that the soldier's playstyle is rather direct, traditional and agressive, which suits my personality pretty well.
10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag?
I'm one of those freaks that like the push style maps like Grainery and Well. Straightforward and simple, yeah?
11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win?
Rocket jumping is an absolutely critical skill for a soldier. You can use it to gain a positional advantage in combat, to escape when you're outmatched and to get back into the fight more quickly when you respawn.

3. Since July 6th, 2008.

4. I used to interact over the mic, but my computer has been wonky so now I have to type super fast.

5. Just regular English wish a couple of simple terms that might not be instantly recognized by new gamers such as spyro, Heavy Medic up top on control point, and terms from inside the game.

6. When people won't pay attention to the classes. Like, when we're on a Payload or Arena map and we've got four Snipers and no medics.

7. See #6

8. I love the Medic. He's my favorite class and the most useful. I don't like playing the Demoman. He's too difficult to understand and what gets on my nerves is how some people can dominate an entire team as a Demoman and when I play as him I can't get a single kill.

9. Medic: I like helping people... like in Gears of War when a friend is down, my first priority becomes helping him out. Demoman: I really like explosives.

10. I really dig arena mode. Since I play a lot of Counter-Strike as well, I'm used to that kind of playing style. It also makes the Medic a million times more useful as well so I get to feel even more special. I can't really think of any that I don't like... my least favorite would probably have to be Capture the Flag. I really don't think that it fits in, I guess. But it's still fun.

11. Teamwork teamwork teamwork. If you've got a buddy in need, help him out. You can't win by yourself so it's best to stick together. 2 heavy medic combos rushing a control point are nearly unstoppable. Also, as a Spy I will find corridors where people are all lined up facing the same direction. Triple backstabs on Snipers are great. Also, as a Medic I try to heal everyone I can find. I'm not the kind of Medic who sets priorities like always heal a Heavy before a Scout. I heal everyone I can as fast as I can.

Okay here is the deal, I am doing an ethnography, which is a 7-14 page report on another culture, I choice the interactive video gaming culture of Team Fortress 2. I have several questions and if you could answer them, that would be wonderful, thank you all so much!!

1. What is your age? 17
2. what is your gender? Male
3. How long have you been playing TF2? Since the Orange Bex was Released
4. As a player, what are some of the ways you interact with fellow TF2 players? I joined a community because of it

5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play? Spyro etc
6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game? I suck at it
7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"? Fuckwits who think that because they are better at the game than everyone, everyone else is a noob
8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be? Fav: Spy Least Fav: Demoman
9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character? I am an utter bastard and I don't like to blow shit up...or blacks (kidding)
10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag? Vanilla TF2 is awesome and Arena is my least fav
11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win? Backstabbing

1. What is your age? 25
2. what is your gender? Male
3. How long have you been playing TF2? Since release
4. As a player, what are some of the ways you interact with fellow TF2 players? Limited. I play on the same team as others in the same room as me.
5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play? Naturally. for me, I limit myself to functional lingo, stuff which makes expressing game concepts more quickly and easily.
6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game? Not many, really. Probably that lighting a person on fire and running away is not a very viable strategy in reality
7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"? Honestly, no. Either they are a fair match, a skilled played I gotta respect, someone who is fun to kill, or someone to remember when I lose, and point to when I think to myself, "I was totally carrying the team". It's very rare I actually find a person who is actually going outside the boundaries of acceptable play.
8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be? Love the Pyro, for whatever twisted reason. Don't like the Spy, because I never got around to learning how to play him properly.
9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character? Umm...well I guess that my approach to problem solving does tend to be either careful, well thought out sneakiness, or failing that brute force in the most vulnerable spot I can find.
10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag? Absolutely love both varieties of payload. The rest of the game types are pretty close, but if I had to pick...I guess Cap point. I don't have anything against CP really, though.
11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win? In a large enough team, I tend to constantly try hail mary plays. Usually games have a pretty even equilibrium , and the front line doesn't move very fast, so I like to try the strategies that fail 9 times out of 10, but on that 10th time I murder the entire enemy team, and make a clear path for the flag/cap the next point/move the payload a bunch.

5. Not particularly special.

6. Lack of teamwork I guess. It's extremely depressing to try and do something alone while you're teammates are testing to see which weapon shoots out of which end.

7. I get frustrated too easily so I can't really answer this.

8. I don't exactly have a favorite class, play them all according to what I'm feeling like playing.

9. Nothing really, I do believe I can pull off all those accents though.

10. No favorite but I don't like payloads a lot. Gets too chaotic often.

11. I WILL NOT REVEAL MY BATTLE TACTICS TO ANYONE *hiss*

6. Noone pushes the cart, noone is trying to push the attack, just waiting for others to go and die. If people happen to run into the enemy, they do it like lemmings and die shamefully.
7. noobs
8. favourite: demoman - versitile Least favourite: Eng - I have to play hi, otherwise our team gets bumfucked.
9. Demoman - I curse a lot Eng - making sure idiots on my team won't lose.
10. AAARGH THE CART IS MOVING THE WRONG WAY!
11. Attack: focus on taking down sentries so my team lemings will push foward, sticky camp spawn doors buying my lemmings a bit of time to get shit done. People also underestimate suppresive fire. Generally look at what others are doing and help them. They certainly won't help you so that's the only way.
Defence: get an eng, build a sentry in a RIGHT place, REMEMBER about teleports, USE SHOTGUN FFS, know when to bail out.

It's hard to write about "trics" in general as there are dozens of them. Knowing right angles for sentries for example. A good demo needs 3-4 secs one on one with a sentry to take it down. There are some sick lobs you can do.

Oh there is one good trick. When your team just got bumraped and you are retreating, place stickybombs in a visible spot all over the place. Even if that is only you vs 12 people, noone will rush you. I once kept the enemy team for the entire game, holding the ground even when sentry was down. People underestimate sticky bombs as a deterent.

2. what is your gender?

3. How long have you been playing TF2?
About 2-3 months

4. As a player, what are some of the ways you interact with fellow TF2 players?
Headset, typing, and sometimes sprays

5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play?
Not really, but there are a few special callouts, like a "spyro" is a spy disguised as a pyro

6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game?
Joining a game and seeing the majority of players as spys/snipers.

7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"?
mic spammers

8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be?
I don't have a favorite character, I tend to play the class that there is the least of. My best is the soldier though. And my worst would have to be the Demoman.

9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character?
Well for the soldier I tend to run in, not plan often, and hope for the best, like him.

10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag?
Favorie would be the push maps. Least favorite would be Payload or Arena.

11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win?
Always go for the objective. Your K/D doesn't matter, you could have no kills, yet you could win the game for the team by capping a few points/flags.

Thank you for taking the time to do this and if you have anything else to add that I missed, feel free to add it, thank you!
No problem
There you go.
