9. I guess I'm like the engineer in that he is amiable and modest. I'm not like the soldier at all, considering he's a complete psychopath, but that adds to the fun of playing as him.

Okay here is the deal, I am doing an ethnography, which is a 7-14 page report on another culture, I choice the interactive video gaming culture of Team Fortress 2. I have several questions and if you could answer them, that would be wonderful, thank you all so much!!

3. A friend got me hooked about 6 months ago.
4. I'm mostly the silent type that just listens to voice chatter and calls out incoming occasionally, unless I'm chattering with friends.
5. Almost all games develop some sort of lingo or shorthand to make it faster for people who don't like to voice chat, or even for people who do, like saying "H/M inc [place]" and people understanding you as calling out a Heavy/Medic pair coming to assault a location.
6. I harbor intense dislike for people who spend so much time insulting other people for being incompetent that they themselves lose situational awareness and become useless.
7. I'm a firm believer in promoting the knowledge of the difference between a new player and a "noob." A true "noob" is both useless and ignorant. Be willing and eager to take advice and learn and people will help you.
8. I enjoy being the soldier or sniper, I prefer to end confrontation at long range. My least favourite class to play would have to be spy or engineer. I'm awful at playing both and I know it, so I avoid doing so.
9. I find the personality of the sniper to be a little like me; he's scrawny and drier than a Bond martini, and prefers to keep distant, not just from conflict but also from people.
10. I enjoy Payload and Capture Point. I dislike Arena and Capture the Flag.
11. It depends on the team I'm playing with; if I'm playing with people I know are competent, I tend to be less selfish in kills and slightly more careful to stay alive in case I'm needed somewhere.

I'm a great solo worker (Spy), but also love sitting back and micromanaging (Engineer).
Not very accurate with lobbed objects (Demo), and I can't handle heavy combat (Heavy).

Love Control Points, hate Payload.

11. What are some tactics you use in the game to win?
(refer to #6) I avoid face to face combat as much as possible, but as an Engineer, I will take HUGE risks to get to the best choke points.

10/ I like Vanilla TF2 - Capture Point. Low-grav/RTD servers annoy me.
11/ I like to deny areas, lay traps, target medics, avoid suicidal runs (knowing when to leave), avoid running in on my own (with people, much more effective and people often forget to do so) etc.

least favorite: 2fort/ PL, essentially stalemate maps cause people cant play for shit.

Out aim opponents in pubs, excessive flanks and ultra aggressive and risky medic picks in Competition.

4. I prefer to stay with the same group of people. We dont take things that seriously (A group of Demomen running around taunting whenever one of us gets a kill)
5. Besides various ways to say "Ubercharge me!" I cant think of any.

8. Pyro (Axe Only)/ Heavy (Too slow and Im used to only getting a kill maybe once every thirty seconds. Not 3 in one second. Dont ask, it just makes me feel a bit sick.)

10. Favorite is CP, least favourite is Arena.
11. I rely on my teammates to do all the capping, and my abnormal luck for crits with the axe to kill everyone I find.

5. Is there certain "lingo" that is appropriate for game play? nothing unique, standard english seems to work fairly well.
6. What are some of the "pet peeves" you possess when playing this game? Well spawn-campers and utter lack of teamwork come to mind.
7. Are there certain people whom make you angry, an example would be a "noob"? arrogant and insulting palyers ie: "I'm the best and all you noobs suck." or "insert racial slur here"
8. What is your favorite character to play and what is your least favorite character to be? Sniper is my fave, least is demo-man as I lack the practice to use him properly.
9. How are you alike with your favorite and least favorite character? I'm sneaky and wear glasses... and I have scottish roots.
10. What is your favorite mode and least favorite, an example would be Prophunt, or Capture the flag? other than modded servers, I guess capture the flag is my fave. Least has to be king of the hill.

7. Whiny ten years ordering everyone what to do and then yelling at you when you die. Though this becomes hilarious when they fuck up and everyone starts laughing at them.

9. I'm loudmouthed and like to run alot. Plus I like little gizmos and enjoy learning about physics and the like. I also tend to not talk a lot (paradoxically) when I'm pissed off. And feel stabby.
10. Payload race. Especially when it's evenly matched.
11. As a scout, I drink bonk just before we make an attack so all of the enemy's attention is focused on me, and then my other teammates go in for the kill.
I also like to place sentries at strategic points with a pyro guarding me against spies, rockets and grenades.

4. Jokes and tactics. Generally one right after another
5. Yes there is to a point. Generally alot of military lingo makes it into games.
6. People who disregard teamwork, and people who whine too much.
7. For the most part I'm very level headed, it takes a very long time to make me upset. If it's at all possible I'll give a pointer to someone if they blatently need one.
8. Sniper class is my favorite, I dislike using the heavy class, I just never got the hang of it.
9. Well I hunt and own several weapons, all of which I enjoy shooting with percision. As for the heavy, I like sandwhiches.
10. I really like the cart pushing modes. It forces people to use teamwork and keeps the battles pretty local. You never have the problem of not seeing the enemy.
11. Cover fire with flanking teams. Diversions and sometimes an all out frontal assault.

6: Well, there seem to be more idiots playing the game nowadays. Also when Sni+Spy becomes greater than 2Med. That's my Team Makeup Fail equation.
7: Really really really obnoxious players. I suppose I can be one, but for christs sake, it's not team stacking if there's only two of us out of twelve!
8: Heavy's my favourite and Medic's my least.
That being said, I've got medic as my most played class.
9: I'm big and eat sandwiches. I don't talk to them.
10: Capture Point is good, Payload Race (Pipeline) too often just gets into one team beats other all the time.
11: A medic and an ubered something is best used before a medic and a kritz'd Heavy.
or, you know, play as a team, but no-one does that nowadays.

9. uhh.. I dunno. I like alcohol? so that's a bit like the demoman I guess. I'm a medic myself, sort of, so I guess that's a clear similarity to the medic. As a person, I'm nothing like the scout.
10. Payload is the best, CTF least favorite. Hate the bollocks out of 2fort.
11. As Demo, I focus on sentry killing. As Medic, I use the gun that heals, to heal. I like playing supportive roles.
