Huh jeez. We're screwed. I especially like the descriptions of the giant, the sentry bomb and the tank thing at the end.

As much as I love TF2, and as cool as that trailer was, I just can't get excited for this update.

I was never a fan of the "bosses" they introduced for the Halloween updates, and I just don't feel like they, nor this upcoming "horde mode" fit TF2's style of gameplay. I'd have preferred if it was just a team of humans versus a team of robots. This just sounds like an entirely different game to me, honestly.

I find myself playing TF2 less and less lately, and this certainly won't help. It's too bad, because it looks like a lot of effort went into it--I love the comics, especially their art, and the music in the trailer is awesome. I just can't bring myself to care.

Personally I'm tickled hysterical over this... I have this notion I'm going to be playing even more TF2 over the next 6-12 months... Re-engaging Team Fortress addiction.

Not to much to get.

Capture points. Shoot people not your color. Learn as you go with weapons that have easy descriptions.

Sorry mate.
I think that's oversimplifying matters a bit. I may have only played three games of TF2-

Well, that explains it.
-but I know there's a lot more to the game than that. Too much more.
Besides, my internet is inexplicably horrible. Dial-up horrible. Even if I liked this game, everything would be too laggy and the updates would pretty much lock me out for days at a time.

Jeez, between this and The Last Story coming out, I'm going to have a lot of game time on my hands.

Even though I don't play TF2 I'll give props to Valve for not making their game stale after 5 years. Bravo Valve, bravo.
Yeah, it's fantastic that they can keep the community enthralled after all this time. Hell, I'm 1200 hours in and just getting started in TF2.

Awesome. OP, you might want to edit this video into your post.
Wow.

Words cannot begin to describe it.

But why is it coming out now? Meet the Pyro was pretty recent.
I know my clan will be playing the map on our servers. We're a mostly adult and friendly community.

Why the hell am I the only person saying this?! Oh, right, because I'm the only person here who didn't get the game on Day 1. You might think I'm trolling you right now, but I seriously believe that TF2 hates new players.
I've bought the game, played it, and hated it so much. I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing, I have no idea what my teammates are supposed to be doing, I have no idea what my teammates are talking about, and I have absolutely no desire to find out.
You people can keep playing TF2. You can keep liking it and I can accept you liking it. But please: the next time you're assigned to coach a new player, can you actually coach them? You don't want them winding up like me, do you?
...
Goddamnit, David Bjur.
Alright, let me give you the quick version.
-Pick Pyro
-W+M1

You'l get the hang of it eventually.

It is deep and plumbing the depths may leave you lost but that just means you won't get bored.

It doesn't "hate new players" it just REWARDS current players with depth and complexity and dynamic challenge more than it wants to cash out to an expanding yet fickle user base *cough*cod*cough*.

I will coach you, PM me and I can arrange a crash course this weekend, I'll even pocket medic you, that means I'll follow you around ovehealing you primarily and giving you ubers, but even a good pocket medic will heal other players but MOST IMPORTANT if I say "SPY BEHIND YOU!" You have GOT to turn around and shoot anyone close. I cannot stop a spy insta-killing you with a backstab unless you turn and face him.

The thing is if you get into Mann vs Machine you will be as new to it as everyone else and co-op vs AI will probably be less dependent on recognising player tricks than player vs player.

I suggest going as Soldier, the rocket-man, he's the single best class able to deliver moderate damage at all range though slow he isn't impossibly slow like the heavy.

And if you take the time to learn rocketjumping properly he mutates into a flying beast of death on par with the Scout in terms of movement.
Or he turns into Mario and stomps people while Market Gardner critting the other rocket-jumping Marios.

I've spent way too much time with my clanmates while we're all being Rocket Jumper + Mantreads + Market Gardner Sollies.

Anyway, the only classes I wouldn't recommend playing as if you're a new player are the Scout and Spy.

-You can W+M1 as a Pyro but you're doing it oh so wrong. You should either focus on counters (basically, you're a mobile hurricane who blows back all the things with your compression blast). You're also extremely lethal with the right weapon combos (I go with the Degreaser, Flare Gun, and Axetinguisher. It's a fairly common loadout because it basically puts you in control of your own crit rate, though it also leaves you vulnerable to other Pyros). That's hardly the only way to play, though. It's become a pretty technical class the last couple of years thanks to the Degreaser mostly.

-You can sit back as a Demoman and just set up traps. It's effective. You just need to learn player patterns (what route they tend to take, where they tend to look when they enter a room so they don't shoot all your stickies, etc). Demoman is a great class, really. It's an utter powerhouse when played right.

-Soldier is probably the most balanced class in the game. I don't recommend not having your shotgun equipped in a normal scenario, though. Good Pyros will laugh at you if you do opt for a banner of some kind. Even without rocket jumping, you can do fairly well. Though acquiring that skill will improve your game greatly.

-Medic is great because you just follow and focus on dodging what comes your way. Dodging is a fantastic skill to develop for any class. Just make sure you heal everyone around you (at least give them a buff before you go back to the main person you're healing).

-Heavy...not really many advanced tactics for him, really. Just simultaneously spin-up and jump into a room rather than creep out. Other than that, point and shoot. Use your sandvich to heal yourself or drop it to heal a teammate (especially your Medic, if you have one). That's about it. Though I don't play this class much. Too slow, too vulnerable (you're a big, slow-moving target, and a target many people make a priority at that).

-Engie: Build sentries where you can get maximum coverage without there being an easy way to destroy it. You want to force your enemies to have to "peek" out if they want to destroy the sentry. Always be aggressive. Rather than whack endlessly at your sentry, pursue them with your shotgun in hand. They usually won't expect that, so long as you don't run straight at them and telegraph your attack. If you're accurate, the Widowmaker is wonderful.

-Sniper...I don't play Sniper. I guess the skills transfer if you're used to that sort of play? I don't know. New players tend to love to be Snipers, though. Long-range instakills need to die in fire, as far as I'm concerned.

-Spy and Scout are just difficult to play as a new player. They involve having a good knowledge of the game and a great deal of skill. Newbie spies are often the least valuable team members, even if you have a nice k:d (presumably from sitting in a corner and stabbing the occasional dude). If you have to play Spy, then use your gun. For the love of God, use your fucking gun. So many Spies walk around with their knives out at all times when it should be the other way around. Pull out your knife when you know you're about to be in a close-quarter situation or are immediately about to backstab someone. Other than that, your gun is decently powerful. It won't outdamage most other weapons, but it's accurate.

Agreed, but my fun-loadout is a "Demoknight" with boots, stickyjumper and pan.

snip for shortage of moustachium
Just some additions.

- Pyros who deflect and know how to juggle are a pain in the ass but both are skills you aquire with expirience. As a beginners class it is one of the best because... M1 + W = GET IN THERE!!! Just don't forget to extinguish the poor scout who runs at you engulfed in flames.
Yeah, but you have to move beyond that at some point. Might at well start trying to incorporate the airblast into your game from the start. Though this is coming from me, a Pyro main. So it peeves me more than most people when I see a Pyro not using all the tools in his/her disposal. Pyro can be a counter machine (to rockets, grenades, stickies, ubers, other Pyros, arrows...). That's missing a lot if you don't even try.

Arrows? (Though I play often Pyro on occasion I did not know anything about arrows but mostly because I can't remember the last time when I fought a Sniper as a Pyro) Can you push them back or something? The other stuff... I love the look on the heavys face if he wants to waltz in with his uber but can't even get in because I pop out and push them back...

(Main Scout followed by Soldier).
Yep [http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_query=arrow+reflection&search_sort=relevance&search_category=0], you can reflect arrows. Takes a lot of practice and a little luck to do it with any consistency, but I've headshot more than a few snipers with their own arrows. You can also reflect the new Scout weapon (the Flying Guillotine, I think? It's the meat cleaver the Scout can throw for pretty hefty damage). That one is hard to reflect, though. It's hard to see, is thrown without much warning (the animation for the throw is quick, unlike a Huntsman Sniper readying his bow), is as fast as a DH rocket, and I don't think it even makes a sound.
