A) If the scout is defending the intel then your team has already lost. There are 8 other classes to do this.
B)Might not even 5 seconds, I was just on the first stage of dustbowl. If you drink it at the exit of the tunnel to the 2nd cap point then it only lasts enough time to get you about half way to the point, let alone past a lvl 3 sentry on the right hand side.
c) Yeah like i said the bat is the only thing i would use, but hitting people with the ball is a lot harder than the sniper hitting them anyway :S
Also, i did try to think of ways i could use them and I came up with very little.
A) I never said you have to defend your intel. As a scout, I imagine you should be all over the place. If the enemy has fortified their position with turrets, making it impossible to enter without aid, what do you do? Stand around, scratching your balls? No, you go on the defense for a while, just making life miserable for the enemy. And being tossed of the bridge on Fort2, or thrown off some ledge. Heck, just being thrown back at all will be annoying.
B) Then you don't use it correctly. You are not supposed to go all alone when using this. Your team is just that. Your team. A team is supposed to help. So get them to help you! And if you have a chance using the drink when you have gotten the intel, that must help a lot. Just getting the intel as close to your base as possible should be a priority, and faster running does help.
C) Just have to practice then. Or use it close up. Being stunned just for a few seconds is rather deadly in TF2.

Or, your know, just don't use any of the new things. Let those who want to play Scout a bit differently use them, And have fun. I agree with Simriel. TF2 is a fun game. It is more or less impossible not to have fun. Winning or losing... who cares?

perhaps you need to think more laterally.

Not abuot how he's 'meant' to be played, but how he 'needs' to be played.

I'm sure the weapons have been heavily tested, you just have to figure out where they play to the scout's strengths and where they'll get you killed.

No. Now i jsut know how many of you are noobs :)
Yes i am a noob. I have been playing the game since release day, can use any class well in support of my team, have personally captured the intelligence without help 200+ times (I'm a REALLY good spy) and can make ridiculous stealth kills with a lour firearm. I am indeed a noob.
O'rly? So you don't see how these would just gimp the scout if used?
No in fact i can think of interesting ways to use them all. Stun Bat sounds interesting for support of say a heavy or a sniper, the Force'o'nature would be excellent for forcing enemies out of an area, and the energy drink can provide a skilled player with just enough boost to really effect the game. I don't really play as the scout much myself, but i DO know how to use him. Personally I'm waiting for a Spy Pack. My revolver needs a little more oomph.

First, both of you, edit your posts.

Second, Deus: They are free. They are not obligatory. They are meant to change the game and spice things up. Your way may be the one you are best at, but it is not the only way.

So start caring less, get that brown off your nose, and just try to enjoy the game

A) No i wouldn't go on the defense. I would tell the spies and heavy/medic combos to get off their sorry asses and do something. Yeah blasting them off a ledge or whatever might work. But that'll only be like 1/100 encounters you have. No point gimping yourself for the other 99/100
b) Yeah ok... If the rest of the team is there i won't need it at all. Pistol would serve you better. The drink doesn't make you faster, from what i can tell it just makes you take less damage. But double jump and the extra speed of the scout make this pointless as long as a need lvl 3 sentry isn't up by the time you have the intel and on your way back.
c) Just noticed the bat takes double jump away. So thats the scout gimped if you ever use it :(

Why does Deus seem to believe that there is only ONE UNT PRECISELY VON! way to play each class? Everyone tells me spy is awesome for disguise knife kills. I prefer to use my revolver, and i'm GOOD with it. Maybe YOU, Deus, cannot use the new equipment but that don't mean no one can.
The people that told you that must completely fail as spies.
The revolver is an integral part of the spy kit, is moderately powerful, can be used for sniping, and every good spy knows how to use his. Its good that at least some people know how to use it.

And besides, you can help your team much more by sapping rather than knifing.

I know the game is fun. But it was fun before. New interesting weapons would be great if they had a place in the class. Like for example a new shotgun that has all the same attributes, but say threw off the enemies aim a bit at close range. Drink would be fine if it lasted longer and didn't expose you when you try to take it. Bat would be useful if it wasn't like running around with 10hp. Thats also the problem. My fun is spoilt by people class stacking and trying to get the stupid achievements.

So yeah valve could of spent the time making hl2:ep3 more awesome or they could sit around making useless additions. Hmmm....

Right, the new shotgun. Whats the point in removing double jump so you can use the shotgun for it insted and for less damage. No double jump = dead scout. The drink does nothing, you have to stand still for like 2 seconds and only lasts about 5. So you either take it in the think of fire and get owned in .5 of a second or take before and get ~1 second of the effect when you need it. Pistol still owns it. New bat is only think i would ever use, just to take out heavys, but i can do that easily by double jumping onto their head and owning them withh the normal bat. Does nobody else see this or am i the only one here who knows how to play tf2?
So come up with new strategies that make the most use of those features.
Yeah ok I'll get right down to making strats to make the scout harder to play for no reward.
True, but other bits have been useless too. I mean, does anyone who knows how to play Pyro ever take the Flare gun?

Anyway, i haven't tried the update yet, but surely since the new Shotgun gives an air knockback, wouldn't it not be possible to use that as a pseudo jump, much like aiming the gause backwards, in Half Life etC?
Yeah i had the same problem with the flare gun.

They made the game and designed every aspect of how the scout plays, every single detail.

I think you dont understand how the scout is meant to be played.

I think that's your problem. You are looking for a buff. Your example wouldn't work because all of the achievement weapons and items have been about a give and take. You gain a new ability/utility at the expense of another.

From what I understand, if you equip the new shotgun and NOT the new bat, you could actually get a triple jump. So how does the new shotgun "gimp" the scout again?

If valve knew how the scout was meant to be played, why would they gimp him for 99/100 of the time just to get past 1 little problem? TF2 was so nicely balanced before these updates because each class had to be used in a certain way to achieve its effectiveness. Valve bring along weapons that help some of its weaknesses while effectively gimping the class' strengths. Totally messing up balance.

Ok.. So now instead of shooting the enemy 6 times before reloading, I can jump once, then again and then take my aim from my enemy and shoot for another small jump then bring my aim back to my enemy to shoot again. Oh wait now i'm out of shots and have to spend the next double jump reloading. Its just pointless. The extra jump isn't going to save you in the long run.

Yes a slight buff. Thats a reward. Of course they will have to be harder to obtain. Like you know... Real achievements like get 500,000 kills. Not stupid crap like kill a heavy with the bat while he is eating a sandwich.

you know what achievments are originally designed for right? Just to mark special moments in the game, you know the really funny ones? However the idea is not to grind for them, but to play the game and have them come along in due course by conincidence, meaning you aren't flooded by piles of weapons the moment you start playing.
Anyway, I'm beginning to suspect trollage here...

I play the 360 version, so I'm kinda unaffected by all this :D
Although there is always going to be people in favour and against things, that's what makes the world interesting. However, these people usually tend to illustrate their points with personal life experiences, which, of course, since this is a forum, we don't know each other, and could well be biased. And others just seem to rant to much. Let's just get along and be good friends, ey?:D
