I'm torn about the updates.

I mean, new weapons are gerat and all, but TF2 is pretty much destroyed the next few weeks because everyone and their mom is grinding :(

The new weapons hardly gimp the scout, I was off roasting weenies just a second ago and a few scouts used the new weapons quite smartly and left me staring blankly at the screen.
However if you feel the new weapons leave you gimped or unbalanced, just don't use them, nobody is forcing you to, use the ones you already like.

perhaps you need to think more laterally.

Not abuot how he's 'meant' to be played, but how he 'needs' to be played.

I'm sure the weapons have been heavily tested, you just have to figure out where they play to the scout's strengths and where they'll get you killed.
Thats the whole point... They don't help the strengths.. It just gimps them and gives a slight buff to the weaknesses

Yeah ok I'll get right down to making strats to make the scout harder to play for no reward.
So you're blaming Valve for the fact that you can't be bothered to find out how to use the new weapons effectively?
/facepalm

I've just spent the whole thread explaining why they aren't effecttive. Please read it kthx

No, you've explained why you don't think they are effective. How many hours did you spend to get 'good' at playing the scout? And how many hours have you spent playing the new mods? Just because you can't be bothered putting the effort in doesn't mean that there isn't potential there.

I like the new weapons, I just don't think they're good when used all together.

Like, you don't want to use the new shotgun with the Energy drink, 'cause you need the pistol if your shotgun only has 2 shots.

I really do like the idea of the drink. Sure it's got the slowdown at the end, but it gives the scout a much-needed ability to evade Sentries (5 seconds is plenty of time to steal the intelligence from a Sentry nest, for example). Not sure about how the new Bat works, I guess it depends on the map and what other weapons you're using. Though the stun would probably be awesome combined with point-blank scattergun shots.

The new stuff has potential, and there's always the old stuff if you prefer.

New options are not bad.
(I predict the response to my post will use the word "gimp")

1: Nobody is forcing you to use them.

2: Valve made the game, so the if the characters are supposed to be played "a certain way" then it's the way they bloody well designed it.

3: Repeating yourself is not going to work when nobody else agrees with you.

4: Calling people a noob for giving a smart answer to your idiotic posts is pathetic, grow up.

5: It's whiny, ungrateful people like you that make game developers less likely to put in effort for free updates because they can never win.

I personally have not got any of the new updates for any of the classes due to only recently getting the PC version of the game (Sold the 360 version of Orange Box a while back) and I personally look forward to giving them a go, sure they may or may not work, but it's my choice to use them or not.

Update good. Flatters butt. I mean...

It's a decent update. Fun achievements to unlock (didn't know I would get the "Kill the Medic ready to Uber" achievement so fast and without trying), weapons are pretty nice (energy drink is lolwut, but you can still beat the hell out of them with a melee weapon or explosives) and I only don't like that the stun is so long. Kind of lame.

Also - WE NEED MORE SCOUTS!! 6 ON A DEFENSE MAP IS NOT ENOUGH DAMN IT!!

Right, the new shotgun. Whats the point in removing double jump so you can use the shotgun for it insted and for less damage. No double jump = dead scout. The drink does nothing, you have to stand still for like 2 seconds and only lasts about 5. So you either take it in the thick of fire and get owned in .5 of a second or take before and get ~1 second of the effect when you need it. Pistol still owns it. New bat is only thing i would ever use, just to take out heavys, but i can do that easily by double jumping onto their head and owning them with the normal bat. Does nobody else see this or am i the only one here who knows how to play tf2?

You really need to think outside the box and L2P.

So come up with new strategies that make the most use of those features.
Yeah ok I'll get right down to making strats to make the scout harder to play for no reward.
First, playing a video game doesn't EVER equate to a reward in any measurable sense of the word - mastery (and thus, owning the noobs) is the reward in and of itself. Second, each of the items placed in the game is designed to provide additional play options for each class without dramatically altering their role. The scout's new weapons, like the pyro upgrades before it, result in a class that plays differently but still fulfills the same basic role. In the case of the pyro it's unparalleled short ranged firepower, in the case of the scout it's high speed skirmish warfare. If you do not like the altered play style associated with the new weapons, by all means stick with the old ones, no one twisted your arm to make you use the new stuff.

Just look at it this way - if the new weapons were literally "The same as the old ones only better" than you have given in inherent advantage to a veteran player above and beyond skills - which goes against a key tenant of FPS games (The presumed level playing field).

I think TC is one of those people who never CB's ubers back. And is busy yelling at his team, while perhaps being #1 in points, not actually accomplishing anything to move the game forward. The ability to Stun ubers worthless? Yea, go have fun playing TF2:DEATHMATCH while your team loses. Your the worst kind of scout, the kind that think your single objective is to KILLZ ZE MEDICS LUL. This game is team based. The unlocks work better as... a.... team? I... don't get it, I thought this was Solo Killfest '97. Valve will figure out that teamwork is for games revolving around teams, and not THIS game.

Valve has said, many, many, times that they have no intention of 'upgrading' any class. And that they don't want someone with the unlocks to have a big advantage over those without. What you're describing sounds like the XBL mentality, "If I play longer I should be better!". Which I hope anything you described NEVER happens. Seriously, 500k kills? You know how many terrible scouts will be out there just trying to kill people? Its bad enough with situational sidegrades, any actual upgrades and it'll turn into pre-nerf BB all over again.

As to your actual question(yay derailtopics!), I think The FAN is going to be for the scouts with better aim, it can kill almost anyone in 2 shots, and gives you a tripple jump. Good Aim/working with a team= Pretty sweet. Plus it plays better with the scouts playstyle, run in, shoot, retreat. With the FAN, you can do your damage and retreat faster, and can be reloading while moving to a different attack spot.

The bat is a straight upgrade to the old one, but takes doublejump. After you hit the ball its acts like regular bat for 15 seconds. This one is reaaalllly map/team dependent, no midair direction change= easier for every class in the game to kill you. However it works on ubers, which can save many a lives, depends on what the enemy team is doing. Pyro's will probably still be better with CB, but combined ubers won't make it 5 feet before it runs out.

The drink, eh. I'm a pistol'o'holic, and I can't drop it, period. I just use the pistol too much. And I'm one of the players that, if the enemy is bunkered down with sentries I'm not going to stay scout, its Heavy/demo/medic/spy/soldier/pyro time.

If your one of the people that think once you equip an upgrade it can never ever be changed, then you'll keep your default scout setup. However, if you realize that every class' tatics change with the map, then you'll be swapping out weapons probably ever other life. Your mentality is just silly, X class got more options, but they arn't better than before so its the worst thing ever did ever I hate it never going to play class again :(. More options=More chances to catch people off gaurd. Which really helps the scouts play style.

As some already have said: how can stunning a überd heavy not be a good thing?
Also the drink seems to be perfect when you are trying to get away with their intelligence.
The Force of Nature seems to be good against those pesky pyros ans their flames...
One last thing: if you are one of those that is using an achievement server, and it seems like you are, then you are the one that miss the point of achievements.

EDIT: AND STOP THE FRECKIN DOUBLE POSTING FFS!!! USE THE EDIT BUTTON INSTEAD!!!

Reward as in playing better. No point in using a hard strat if you get the same result as a easy one. The better weapons thing... Thats why i said make them hard to obtain. Insted of achievements that result out of pure luck have ones that reward skill. That is what warrants a buff in weapons. Any vet player to the scout would be able to obtain them as well obviously, even quicker.

Some people think it's rude to answer to more than one guy in a post. I do that too. It's nothing bad in my eyes.

I lol'd.. Anyway. So why can't i call people noobs when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about in regards to strategies for playing the scout? Yeah nobody is forcing me to use them. But if there is no reason to.. Why is it a good thing for valve to waste time on them? This was meant to be a discussion. Calling my opinion idiotic is just pathetic.
