I don't consider the new system of drops a big deal. I really did not want to be going after achievements to gain the new items, and the new system made sure that people wouldn't be playing exclusively spy and sniper (though it did help that Valve released both weapons packs at the same time). I haven't really gotten anything new yet either, but I don't think it limits my ability to do well in the game.

New system is great. Be far easier to get a whole kit than before. I have KGB and some other things which ive had no luck at unlocking previously.

I dont go on achievement servers.. they are pretty lame

Welp seeing as this is the most current thread and I have nothing better to do. I for one, like the idea of an item drop system. Anyone care to yell back and forth with me for a bit? I must warn you, I know very little about what I am talking about and I am prone to making sexual advances at my opponent's mother.
Well the system is good in theory.

The biggest problem with the system is that it is severely glitched. Some players get many drops, while other players get none. Players also have no way of influencing the current drop system to get specific items, so what they get is completley random. The system also lacks any method of trading, a feature that it should not have been released without.

Overall, the system can be good. Valve just needs to heavily improve it. In my opinion, they should have released the new system in addition to the old milestone system. That way they could see the communities reaction to it without them being enraged by them not being able to receive new content.

However, the TF2 team really needs to get new play testers. Valve is not a group of idiots. They definitely tested this system out with their play testers. The play tester must have had no problem with it, leading them to release the new system. It's still an error on Valve's part though for releasing it without crucial features (for example, the trading system).
Yeah well I had sex with your mother!
No but seriously that's a good point. I have the PS3 version so I envy you for even having the opportunity to use the new items and maps. Personally, would I have started playing the game excessively just for a new weapon that might suck? Maybe. But I can assure you, I would not have stated jumping through hoops for the achievements to unlock them. Most of them are ludicrous, especially the medics. I would much rather be rewarded for playing the game than playing the game under very strict conditions for a small treat.

I see your point.

Though I never had a problem with the Medic achievements. Some of them are hard (Medic is my main and I still don't have them all) and others are just counter-productive(Why the hell would I uber a Scout?).

I know right! In all my time healing I have never met a Heavy willing to go around punching people while Ubercharged. Not to mention around 10 of the Scouts achievents require you to have the new weapon already. How exactly does that work?
But it seems that it was a lose-lose situation for Valve. Either people were going to be sitting idle in servers or achievement grinding. Neither option sounds fun.

Yes, no matter what Valve does people will always exploit the system in some way to make unlocks easier.

But with the achievement system, the system was at least fair to everyone. We all had an equal chance to get the unlocks. With eh new system, it's completley random. Due to dumb luck I may never get the cloak and dagger.

Everyone knows the drop system currently sucks. Robin Walker has said that it is buggy and they will be releasing a fix.
