Since everyone seems to be a scout right now I would suggest not to go scout.
Scout rushes are common now cause of the Scout's upgrades. This can only be balanced by releasing upgrades for everyone else.
Lol wut?

This can also by balanced by not sucking at the game. No offense but it's not hard to take out a few scouts. If the other team over uses scouts just switch to heavy for a few lives and mow the little fuckers down. That'll soon put them off scouts.
What the hell are you on about? I posted that shit over two and a half years ago. I don't even play TF2 anymore.

Get up to date with the times, bro.

Of the three that you mention, the Scout. It takes a lot of skill to use very well, but the play style is simple and always useful on offence. I'd also recommend giving the Heavy or Pyro a try due to simplicity, but I'm also a firm believer that new players should play as the Medic so that they can observe how others play.

If you're a noob, don't try the Spy. It's tough to learn and you never need more than 1 or 2 on your entire team anyway.

Edit: Oh wow, this is old. Who necros a help thread from years ago anyway?

Yikes! A really old necro thread. I was wondering why everyone was talking about the Scout update until I noticed the dates.

But, to those who are now coming into the game though, I wouldn't suggest playing just one class. It is a team based game and because of that you need a good team composition in order to function well. A team which is made up of four or five Spies is unlikely to play well.

Instead of pigeonholing into a single class or role, get used to playing a number of different team roles. Try out the more offensive classes; Soldier, Demoman, Heavy, and Pyro; as well as support; Medic, Engineer, and some builds of Pyro. Get used to playing the assassin, picking off key players as a Spy, Scout, or Sniper. Or, get used to playing hit and run as a Scout, Spy, or Soldier.

While you're bound to find one class and playstyle which will suit you best, don't get stuck in that role if the team needs something else. After all, this game has team in its name for a reason.
