...Box. They box kangaroos. It's how they choose their King.LawlessSquirrel said:Valve goes all-out with the stereotyping. Hell, we're home to the most powerful men on the planet and wrestle kangaroos for sport according to Valve. It's all good-natured fun though, not intended to be taken seriously.Lonely Packager said:I hope he's British, because I've never met another Australian that speaks in that ridiculously stereotyped way he does. Valve probably thinks we all use kangaroos as our only mode of transport or something.
My biggest issue with TF2 is that there are two Americans. Why? So many stereotypes to choose from! It would be better IMO if the Engineer or something was a Canadian. Think of the Canadian stereotype Valve would have used: Hairy man, wearing a plaid shirt and generally being all serious and tough. It would be hilarious and awesome.Superior Mind said:the Engineer is a good ol' boy Texan, the Scout is a Brooklyn scumbag,
Have you even played the game much or read any of the comics? They live in an alternate 1950's where there is actually an element called Australium that lets Australia be the most technologically advanced culture in the world. Clearly they aren't trying to exaggerate anything.Lonely Packager said:I hope he's British, because I've never met another Australian that speaks in that ridiculously stereotyped way he does. Amusingly, you're both right. He's considered from Boston, but has more of a Brooklyn accent. At some point Valve claimed this was because his mother was from Brooklyn, or some such nonsense. (Basically they messed up the accent and defend itviking97 said:boston, actually. sorry to waste a whole post saying that but most people don't seem to get that.Superior Mind said:*snip*the Scout is a Brooklyn scumbag,*more snip*

Hell, I'm from America and it's pretty clear to me where he's from.Harlief said:Australian. Undoubtedly Australian. I take it you're from the US?
I can understand seeing the Scout and Engineer as Americans, because well, they are, but aren't you forgetting somebody? A certain class who enjoys his psychotic war flashbacks so much he lives them out through his day to day life with extreme gusto? Carries a rocket launcher around?intheweeds said:My biggest issue with TF2 is that there are two Americans...
TBF, so's Gabe.Deshara said:Everyone in TF2 is an exageration of Stereotypes.
Oh come on. It really doesn't always have to be about that, does it? Not all Americans are ignorant, stereotyping assholes. And by stereotyping Americans, you are doing the same thing you criticize them for.Harlief said:Australian. Undoubtedly Australian. I take it you're from the US?
NO. There is a MASSIVE difference between the various British accents and the Australian accents.obex said:He has an Australian accent (Its similar to British but if you are from either you can tell the difference)
The voice actor is from the US and married to Ellen McLain. He did several of the voices in Half-Life 2. Odessa Cubbage had a cheesy accent, too.Lukeje said:His accent is that of a British person putting on an Australian accent. The character himself is Australian though.
