TF2 Update Continues, Demoman Gets...Sword and Shield?

It's definitely the exact opposite of what I expected for a sticky and melee weapon replacement, but as for its use, I don't really know. To me the combination of the sword and shield, which allows "+50% fire damage resistance and +65% blast damage resistance" is a little bit overpowered, but I suppose that's the temptation necessary to warrant dumping the stickybomb launcher.

Shield gives it. You can use them separately, i think. But it still makes no sense, because shield is wooden.

I for one will love charging around the map as a crazed William Wallace wannabe hacking peoples heads off, though I must say this plays WAAAAAY to much on the fact hes Scottish and has NOTHING to do with blowing shit up which is kinda HIS JOB.

There's another reference too. The sword is a Claymore. A Claymore is also an anti-personnel explosive. Anyway I think it's pretty damn awesome and hopefully serves as a good incentive for people to ditch the stickybomb launcher at times...cause I hate that thing.

Okay, I get how a shield could protect you from fire a little bit, but if it's a wooden shield it would catch on fire and if it's a metal one it will get hot ass hell. I guess it could make sense if it could provide protection for a limited amount of time... or maybe I'm just over-analyzing this.

On a side note, is it possible to chop limbs off? I would love that shit.

That's a huge resistance to enemy Soldiers and Demomen, featured heavily in comp play. That alone might convince people to give it a shot.

i doubt it will get much use, simply cause the damage output of stickies is beyond any thing else in the game. i mean, carpet bombing in comp is so important, i doubt a demo will give it up for.... the ability to get in close, then get killed by the entire team, with no real dodging capability and no way to ambush, i see this just as a gimmick weapon.

Well, all I can say is...
This sounds awesome! I can't wait to charge someone and explode them. (not literally)
Besides, NO ONE in this thread has mentioned the fact that killing someone with the swords gives you boosts to your health, but starts you off with lower health. I think it also boosts speed.

I like it. It will definitely mix things up a little, and the health and speed boosts it gives will perhaps cut down on the amount of sticky spam. Sure it probably won't be used in professional play, but who cares about them anyway? If you're not playing for fun then you've missed the entire point of the game.

Also, the Demoman's name is Tavish Degroot. Who knew?
