So! I'm back again, trying to make my gallant return to the Escapist... again. Because it worked so well the last time, right? Anyway, this particular RP is one that's been rather successful on another website I frequent, so I figured I'd give a shot at porting it over here. Anybody interested, speak up. When I've got enough people expressing interest, I'll whip up a character sheet skeleton for you all.

................................

It was a peaceful time in world at large, then again, it had been peaceful for the last one hundred and fifty years. It wasn't that any of the major countries of the earth didn't want to get involved in the world affairs, it was just that there wasn't anything worth fighting over anymore. World peace was declared for the first time in human history over a century ago, and humanity prospered because of it. However, just because there was peace, that didn't mean that there wasn't massive violence. It was just controlled, supervised, and put on public television for entertainment in the form of squad based Mech suit battles (Dubbed Mechanized Mobile Weapons. Often referred to as MWs or Mechs). Mech suits were a revolutionary new technology introduced right at the end of the last war humanity would ever wage, and it looked like it would be technology wasted were it not for the MBF reviving it decades later.

The MBF (Mech Battling Federation) was a federation that filmed both teams of mech pilots and lone wolves battling in controlled environments, and sold it as pay-per-view entertainment to the massive. After all, there was no easier way to entertain a people that had never known anything but peace then to show them war.

Since the appearance of the MBF, mech battling took over as the world's primary sport, conquering the competition in record time. It got so popular that lesser leagues also started popping up all over the place, within a few decades of it's creation, mech battling became as common of a school sport as many of the other more athletic activities, and was easily more thrilling.

It was a Mech based world, and the people that lived there wouldn't have it any other way.

.................................................

A little bit of information for you all, before you ask any questions.

-The battling will be Freeform, though that won't be the only attraction here.
-Every player is allowed a maximum of 4 characters, because that's how I roll.
-Mechs of any shapes and sizes are allowed, from Gundams, to Zoids, to any kind of custom made machines that you might want to use.
-This is NOT a dystopian bloodsport future, the MBF is as much of a modern form of entertainment as the NFL or the NBA, with the pilots acting as celebrities of the 'modern' world.

Seems interesting. I'd want a bit more information about the world, unless you want us to not know much.

EDIT: Also, how the winner is decided is vital information, so I would like to see about that.

Okay, guys... guys... This is good. All join this, okay, because otherwise I might have to cry over it's dead remains and rattle out a 3 week long eulogy, and no-one wants that.

Consider me interested. Time to cheat through the entire competition using Gurren Lagann-inspired mechs! make up a perfectly acceptable and not at all galaxy-spanning mech to win with!

Sounds good but I'd like a bit more information about the setting and such.

I'm certainly interested though.

You have my attention, although I would like to see a character sheet template before committing to join. Also, it would be appreciated if you provided information on the battling itself. As in, are there any particular rules combatants have to follow, or restrictions on weapons, armour, shielding and the like?

Definitely put me down as interested! A good mech RP sounds good nice right about now. But as others have requested, a little more detail would be nice.

It brings a tear to my eye to see so many people interested in the concept of turning mech battling into a commercialized sport. Here's just a little bit more information on my world for you, if it still seems vague, read my answer below to better understand why that is.

Battling information

-Victory in battle is decided when one side is either unable to fight any longer, or surrenders. Attacking the cockpit is strictly forbidden, and is penalized with increasing severity depending on if there was or wasn't ill intent, as well as damage actually done. Special safety measures are put into place to ensure that damage done to pilots is left to an absolute minimum.

-Cockpits for all humanoid mechs are placed where the regular human heart is. Rather this was more of a poetic decision or an engineering one will forever remain a mystery.

-Since the advent of plasma based weaponry, dome like barriers have been placed over each and every battlefield, all of which are indoor, to protect the audience from the incoming attacks of the machines, while still allowing them the thrill of seeing their favorite mechs and pilots up close and personal.

-Battlefields have simulated environments that vary from battle to battle. Using the latest in arena building technology, it only takes a few hours to turn a barren desert into a tropical island, complete with a massive forest. Then, it only takes a few hours after that to turn the island into a ruined and destroyed post-apocalyptic city, complete with destroyed buildings for cover, and snow fall for concealment. The only restriction when it comes to the battlefield is the engineer's creativity.

-The MBF has multiple leagues, one for every kind of team. For instance, there is a league for solo battles, there is a league for 2 man team battles, all the way up to 5 man team leagues, which is the maximum. They also hold the occassional 'random' event, which is when pilots are about to volunteer to be put into a raffle, and they're randomly assigned a set number of allies and enemies, all of who's names are pulled from the same raffle.

Culture

-The RP takes place in America, some 200 years into the future from our modern day. Regular cars are now the property of museums, with all vehicles now being controlled by anti-gravity in order to hover several feet off the ground, and they're implanted with the same kind of fusion engines put in Mechs, making fossil fuels a thing of the past.

-Communication has also taken massive bounds forward, with regular phones being replace by home terminals that allows for a fully colored 3D image of the person you're conversing with to appear on your flat surface of choice. Still, this technology is only installed in people's homes, so people still use cellular phones to make calls and carry on a conversation when they're out of the house.

-While technology has certainly improved and matured, the people of the world haven't changed a bit. Gossip and slander is just as much alive as it ever has been in the past. The most famous Mech pilots in the MBF are international celebrities. And as such, the tabloids and the press play a massive part of their life, for better or for worse. Still, not everybody makes it to that level of fame. Many still float under the radar, and simply do their jobs and go home.

..................................

If that doesn't answer all your questions, it's because I'm leaving the world mostly vague for a reason. I want the lot of you to play just as big a part in creating this world as I do, for two key reasons.
A) I'm too lazy to create an entire world by myself.
B) I want you all to be immersed into the world that I present, since you put in a part of it. It really helps you to feel more invested in the story when things start to get rolling.

MW

Appearance: (same as human description requirements)

Standard Weaponry
(The equipment that the Mech will come standard equipped with)

optional weaponry
(the equipment that the Mech could come into combat with, but is optional)

other systems
(anything that makes your mech unique.)

Construction and History: (where the machine came from.)

And because I'm such a nice guy, here are my first two characters, so that you guys have something to base your standards off.

Name: Mira Malrain
Age: 20

Personality To call Mira a gear head would be an understatement. She knows more about how MWs work then almost any other pilot in the league, in fact, she is the sole person responsible for the maintenance of her MW, which will be talked more upon later down. She has a deep passion for Mech battling, and often puts a great deal of effort into improving either her MW or her skills at piloting one. Secretly, she carries a bit of an inferiority complex to her older brother, though she'd never show it unless deeply pressed about it.

Despite her being a rather attractive young woman, Mira was never one for relationships in the past. She often invested far too much of her time into practicing her piloting skills, or developing new weapons or generating systems for them to be pursued. Even if one were to pull her out of her work, she really doesn't have many hobbies outside of turning a wrench or penciling on a blueprint.

History: Mira's father, Mattias Malran, is one of the best mech pilots to ever grace the league, so much so that he was actually inducted into the hall of fame for his consecutive victories and championship wins year after year. When his children came of age, both of them showed an interest in mech battling as well, though the results between the two of them varied greatly. The older of the two,Mattias' son Alister, showed raw potential that surpassed even that of his father. He was an ace in the making, and when enough years passed, he would be a man to fear in the MBF. Mira... on the other hand...

It seemed that Alister got most of the raw talent, to put it lightly. Mira struggled to hold her own, despite everything she tried, the art of fighting in a machine just didn't come to her anywhere near as smoothly as it did for her brother. She suffered defeat after defeat at the hands of people that her brother easily walked on. It crushed the young woman, who aspired to be just as talented and do just as much justice to her family's name as both of the men of the house. In an attempt to keep up with her father and brother, Mira started to put unbelievable amounts of effort into practicing her skills after school hours, midnight hours burned during the weekends. Not on clubs, parties, or boys, but in the warehouse as she tried desperately to shorten the distance between her and those she aspired to be like. When she got a little older, Mira started to take up engineering as well. She learned how to design, build, and repair MWs all on her own, so that she wouldn't need anybody's help, ever, for anything.

Even after years of struggling against her own lack of natural talent, Mira is still only slightly above average at best, miles and miles away from the legends that her father was and her brother is on his way to becoming. It crushes her to think about it, and it crushes her even more to be compared to the men of her family from an outsider looking in. She fights by combining what combat experience she has, but is often forced to rely on her deep knowledge about the inner workings and mechanics of MWs in order to pinpoint weaknesses in enemy frames, and holes in defenses. She also finds herself relying heavily on the performance of her machine, which she designed herself to match her needs in combat and make up for her lack of ability as a pilot.

MW

Name: Einenlancer

Standard Weaponry
- 2x hip mounted vibro-blades, optional beam coating
- 2x back mounted plasma cannons
- 1x rear waist mounted carbine rifle, semi automatic, scoped.
- 6x side mounted EMP grenades
- 2x calf moutned emergency vibro-daggers, no beam option.

optional weaponry
- 1x combat bazooka
- 1x heavy flail
- 1x rapid fire shotgun
- 1x heavy gatling gun
- 16x propulsion missiles. Missile pod launcher is mounted to the back and shoulders when in use.

other systems
- Phantom Drive: Created by Mira as a secret weapon for the Einenlancer. The back mounted plasma cannons let off a rather unusual type of emission that forces such weapons to have external vents. However, Mira designed a 'sink' that took those emissions and stored them within the Einenlancer's hull. When the sink is full, she opens all of the Einenlancer's vents, and the emissions pour out. As a result of these actions, wherever the Einenlancer moves, it leaves an after image in it's wake. Combined with well timed EMP grenades, which disrupt a foe's video channels, this can make the Einenlancer capable of distorting it's opponent's awareness as to where the Lancer is. However, this method of timing takes a great deal of skill and timing to pull off, and skill is one of the things that Mira struggles with.

- Backup generator: When the Einenlancer first came in from the manufacturer, it had one big issue that had to be addressed. When Mira overused the plasma weaponry attached to the Einenlancer, the generator overheated and shut down, leaving the MW as nothing more then a giant paperweight. Mira resolved this by installing a secondary generator within the Einenlancer. That way, when the main generator shuts down from plasma overuse, the secondary one kicks on and allows the Einenlancer to continue fighting. However, since the plasma weapons are directly linked to the main generator, she will be without her plasma cannons when put on the secondary generator.

Construction and History: Mira designed the Einenlancer from the ground up to be the perfect MW for her, as it played well to all of her strengths, and catered to her weaknesses as well as it could. The Einenlancer is designed to be a predominantly fast, while still packing a great deal of power. Also, Mira designed a number of optional weapons for the lancer so that she could have a weapon for every situation. That way, instead of using skill to overcome a foe, she could just have a weapon sent to her to help her take care of the situation easier. It was her own special way of evening up the playing field, since she had nowhere near the kinds of reflexes and battlefield cunning that many of the best did.

The Einenlancer is still very much a new machine, as Mira only just got it right before the start of the RP.

Name: Alister Malrain
Age: 22

Personality: Alister mostly keeps to himself, not really speaking much unless spoken to. Some in the past have called him emotionally dead, or sometimes being just plain cold for no apparent reason. Even though he carries his father's raw talent, he resents the fact that he keeps getting compared to the man, and often fights in hopes of creating his own name for himself, rather then just being stuck in the shadow of a man who's already made it through his career. Even though he comes off as emotionless, he carries a deep sense of justice in his heart, and is very protective of his little sister, even though he doesn't show it all the time.

When he fights alone, he is swift, effective, and somewhat ruthless to his opponents. When he fights in a team, he is a lone wolf and never cooperates with those around him, much to the annoyance of his teammates.

History: Alister is called a prodigy by many, the second in a family of extremely dangerous pilots who have sealed themselves to carry a legacy within the MBF. His battles are often swift and decisive, though he has found a few opponents that he as deemed as being worthy rivals. Over the years, he watched from the sidelines as his younger sister struggled to keep up with him, and he often felt sorry for her, though he never actually took any action to help her along for reasons that he keeps to himself. Other then that, there really isn't a whole lot to comment on as far as his life went. He lived as normal a live as possible, and tried out for a seat within the MBF as early as he possibly could. Of course, he passed the tryouts with flying colors, and when his first season came to a close, he had made enough money to have his own personalized MW created for him, the MW would later be dubbed 'Zero' and become one of the most feared sights on the MBF battlefield.

MW

Name: Zero

Standard weaponry
1x back mounted vibro blade (only in normal mode)
1x wrist mounted double beam rifle, semi auto. (Splits off into 2 parts and becomes main gun for fighter mode)
2x head mounted chainguns, full auto (secondary guns in fighter mode)

Optional weaponry
None

Other Systems
-Transformer drive: Alister's MW is unique in that it's capable of transforming from a combat Mech into a fighter jet. While in jet form, Zero sacrifices stability and firepower in exchange for a massive boost in mobility and speed. Also, since the jet is obviously capable of flight, this adds a whole new level of tactical options to Alister's arsenal.

Construction and History: Tragically, in exchange for being able to transform into 2 different modes at will, Alister had to make sacrifices in the weaponry department. All of Zero's weaponry is installed into it's frame from construction, with the exception of the vibroblade, and it can only have a few weapons installed without compromising it's transformation ability. However, that doesn't mean that Zero's harmless, far from it. When in mech form, the double barreled beam rifle is a very powerful carbine, capable of dealing a great amount of damage to those careless enough to underestimate it, and Alister's skill with a vibroblade would be enough to cause an opponent to think twice before driving in with a close quarters assault.

Alister had Zero custom built after his performance in his MBF debut, and it's served him very well ever since.

Alright, I'll put up a sheet, but I want to know how the winner will be decided in the terms of the RP, not the story.

Name: Alex Campbell
Age: 29
Appearance: Short blond hair, blue eyes, broad shoulders, slight muscles, 6 foot 6 inches tall just what you think when you hear "pilot." Will wear normal civilian clothes in his every day life, but wears a WWII flight jacket and goggles during matches in something akin to a costume.
Personality: Calm, collected, and un-phased by all but the largest setbacks or victories, Alex rarely gets angry or excited. This can lead to him losing matches due to lack of ambition, but can also lead to victories due to not panicking.
History: Growing up in one of the few remaining pockets of farms in the United States, he immediately wanted to do something much grander. He learned to work on things such as harvester engines and tractors while working on the family farm, and eventually learned to make basic machines out of spare parts. As he grew up, he moved away from the small town, and moved to the city of Chicago for college. There, he learned about the MBF, and decided that that would be his goal for life. After several years in the college team, he managed to make it to the lineup for the MBF, making it into a small team, the Rocket Spears. After two years with the team, he was made captain of the team, and now does mostly solo fights for them.

MW

Name: Spearhead
Appearance:

Standard Weaponry
X1 Light plasma cannon
X2 Rocket batteries

optional weaponry
None

other systems
A cloaking system that can turn the mech invisible for a short time with full stealth systems activated, but can run for a maximum of half an hour with no other stealth systems active and few other systems running, with each shot of the plasma cannon taking roughly ten minutes off. Also has several heat, radar, and sonar dampening field generators.

Construction and History: Purchased as a cheap frame from a manufacturer in Chicago, it has been heavily modified into a fast and stealthy machine capable of taking out even the heaviest class, given time and planning, but will be taken down by most mechs in even the same class in a head-on-fight.

Personality: She's usually a calm, collected individual, though, she has a streetwise side and can be hot tempered. Jasmine is a professional but she has a very light out look and a very strange way about her. Her own personal philosophy is to get it done with a DON, meaning get it done not only quickly but to give it your everything, and then some, the then some is usually a massive explosion.

History: She spent her youth as a homeless street urchin she would steal and often times help those even less fortunate then her. She was caught by the Deltasquad. However, she was given the option of and jail or being recruited by Commander Cruger, Deltasquad commander. She took up his offer and joined the Deltasquad. As a Deltasquad officer she protected the peace and safety of the innocent. She was trained as the pilot of The DeltaSquad EnforcerRobo Mark I, both for her quick reflexes and somewhat non conventional, dirty, tactics.

Alright, here I go. It's not finished yet, as I have to leave for work now but once I get off I will finish this one and probably do another.

Name: Lyn Kamen
Age: 37
Appearance: Lyn stands somewhat tall at 5'11 and is quite skinny at 120 lbs. She usually keeps her long black hair tied behind her head in a pony tail and has blue eyes. She generally can be seen wearing a traditional white Japanese style kimono with two slits cut down both sides of the bottom to allow for improved mobility.

Personality: Lyn takes great pride in her abilities as a sword fighter and a mech pilot. She is very serious about her battles and just about everything she does. She can be harsh, especially with her students but only because she wants them to succeed. Also, despite her popularity in the MBF she chooses to stay out of the limelight as often as possible.

History: Lyn inherited a kenjutsu dojo that had been in her family for generations. It was always a dying art, but with the popularity of the MBF growing, enrollment was dwindling to almost nothing. After inheriting the dojo, Lyn recognized that the MBF was the way of the future and that while kenjutsu may become a lost art, the ideals it taught could be passed on through this new form of combat. She sold the dojo and used the money to buy herself whatever mech she could afford which didn't amount to much unfortunately. She entered into a small tournament where the prize was sponsorship from MegaloCorp, a successful arms corporation. Her superior battle skills gave her the edge over pilots with more advanced mechs than her own, and the fact that she won with such a rundown mech greatly impressed her new sponsors. Immediately, they set to work building the finest mech they could to suit Lyn's unique fighting style. With a mech worthy of her skills, Lyn quickly became a contender in the MBF and used her winnings to open up a new school for training mech pilots. Many of her students are the scions of bored and wealthy members of upper society, and have found her curriculum to be quite difficult. Thus far, only one student has ever been good enough to be considered a graduate of her school in the 4 years it's been open.

MW

Name:Tomoe
Appearance:

Standard Weaponry
6 hip mounted one handed plasma swords
2 back mounted two handed plasma swords
1 retractable blade in the right arm.

optional weaponry
N/A

other systems
Overdrive. The Overdrive releases all of Tomoe's restrictions and limiters allowing the mech to reach speeds otherwise impossible for most other mechs. However, moving beyond the recommended speed puts great strain on Tomoe and Lyn so it is often used as a last resort.

Construction and History: Tomoe is often considered to be MegaloCorp's finest creation. They set out to create the finest mech to suit Lyn's needs regardless of cost, and ended up with once of the fastest mechs in existence. Tomoe has rarely known defeat with Lyn as it's pilot as it's speed and her sword skills make it absolutely lethal in close quarters.

Name: Alexius Megalos
Age: 22
Appearance: Alexius stands at 6 feet tall and is of an average build at about 200 pounds. He has medium length white hair that goes to about his shoulders and bright green eyes. His wealthy background often shows in his wardrobe as he generally wears a tuxedo or some other sort of nice suit.

Personality: Alexius is a dreamer and he certainly dreams big. He idolizes his fellow MBF pilots and knights of Arthurian legend and longs to be just like them. As a result he always does his best to be polite and conduct himself with honor.

History: Alexius is the son of the wealthy owner of MegaloCorp and will someday inherit the company. He grew up watching the MBF and longed to be a pilot some day. When he wasn't watching mech battles, he was in his family's extensive library reading. His favorite books were those about Arthurian legends. After seeing Lyn fight and earn his family's sponsorship, Alexius had found yet another idol. He watched all her fights with interest and when he heard of the school she had opened, he begged his parents to send him there so he could learn under her. They agreed, and from there Alexius devoted every fiber of his being to learning to pilot a mech with Lyn's guidance. After a year, his efforts were rewarded when Lyn acknowledged that she had little left to teach him, making him the first and thus far only graduate of her school. Alexius began his career in the MBF shortly afterwards. Though he is still only a rookie pilot, his skills and demeanor have won him a small, yet loyal, fan base. Even though she has nothing more to teach him, he still idolizes Lyn and has no delusions of surpassing his teacher but his dream is to one day fight alongside her in one of the team leagues.

MW

Name:Lancelot
Appearance:

Standard Weaponry
1 titanium alloy sword
1 titanium alloy shield

optional weaponry
1 titanium alloy lance to replace either the sword or the shield

other systems
Protection Drive: This can only be activated while Lancelot is using the shield. When activated, for a short time Lancelot's shield will create a force field to repel attacks. This can only be used twice per battle.

Construction and History: After being accepted to Lyn's school, Alexius immediately began looking through MegaloCorps archives to see if he could get his hands on a mech that would both be effective in battle and comply with Lyn's unique close quarters combat style. he came upon a design for a mech that utilized the protection drive along with several other ranged weapons. Alexius altered the design to include the sword and lance for a melee oriented style and gave the schematics to his father's engineers and thus Lancelot was born. it has a greater defense than Tomoe but it's lack of speed has made it difficult for Alexius to win against some ranged opponents.

Name: Kevin O'Neil
Age: 24
Appearance: brown messy hair, 5ft tall but very muscular, rough face, brown eyes, nearly always covered in oil and is nearly always in his jump suit.
Personality: very determined and creative, very little will stop him from getting to were he wants to get do, no matter what happens he will try, try and try again. He has a very up beat personality and will try to cheer others up. He is a nice guy and always follows his gut for better of for worse, this rash and trusting nature has often let to him getting tricked by people but it has never put a downer on his view of life. though he is easily tricked he is by no means stupid building his mech almost single handily.
History: the O'Neil's are all engineers, stretching back many of generations, this meant that Kevin was exposed to building mechs nearly all his life and nearly only to mechs. By 18 he was almost an expert at building mechs and he wants to be the best MBF pilot there ever has been, this lead him to searching through history books trying to find out as much as possible about the origin's of mechs as possible and built of that knowledge but in his searches he also found out about dinosaurs and saw how perfectly they were adapted to kill things. This lead kevin to the idea that his mech should resemble the killing machines that used to rule the earth.

MW
Name: ancient killer
Appearance: it reassembles a velociraptor with no feathers, it looks very mechanical and the pieces don't all match with the outer layer of metal being very patchy and many different colours ranging form black to pink, with the blades on the fingers and toes being very large and curved. each arm also has two elbows not one with a sphere connector to allow for lots of movement. The elbows are also sphere connectors as well as the neck and tail consisting of a serious of closely backed sphere connectors, the tail also has spikes on each segment. the legs are thick near the main body but thin quickly much like the legs of a bird. The cock pit is located in the head so he doesn't have to waist power on screens and cameras.

Standard Weaponry
claws on arms and legs that can cut through most metals with only some resistance
a jaw which can shut with the force of 100,000 tones

optional weaponry
shoulder lasers

other systems
an auto pilot which can dodge a lot of attacks, but lacks the programming to attack, this mode is normally only activated so Kevin can fix any damaged controls and drains the power of the mech quickly.
he can but the engine in a overdrive increasing the out put energy ten fold (so the jaw could shut with the force of 1,000,000 tones) but this reduces the mech run time to about 5 minuets and risks permanently damaging the engine (I thought that you the GM could decide if it ends up damaging the engine so if I decide to use it I actually risk damaging my mech).

Construction and History: lacking the money kevin decided to make this machine from pieces from scrap yards and left offer mech pieces from jobs he gets hired to do (of course he gets friend's to help move them he can't exactly carry them under his shirt). This explains why the mech looks very scrap like, but don't let it's appearance fool you it is a grade A machine with strong armour and solid joints it can stand it's own ground when up against a mech made by processionals.
hope you like it, tell me any changes you want me to make.
