Looking at everybody else's choices in Mech, I'm wondering if mine are a tad overpowered at weapons range...

But then if most of the Gundam-esque Mechs get close to my BattleMechs things will quickly go sour for me, so I think that makes that point moot. Also, who is left to post up a character/mech sheet?
It seem like most people are going for a close range emphasis. I think the funnier thing is that your mechs are 150 years old and still competitive. ;)

Hm, it says full so can I go on the waiting list please? I've been on a mecha binge lately.

if said list exists. May I be on it too? I've already got one made in my head, or if you need a late game antagonist.

Ever read/play the BattleTech books or play the MechWarrior series of games? 150 years old is a releatively young Mech in the BattleTech verse. SargentToughie, the OP, did say that we were free to make up backstory and the like, so I went with old Mechs built in the last stages of the war, as my characters are Historians, seeing as there is peace in the world. Lelouch likes knowledge and studying challenging things, and Kallen loves giant Mechs that blow stuff up.

In Real Life, I have a 50 year old Suzuki ute that is a rusted out hulk on the outside body. On the inside, its been kept clean and maintained very well, all the running gear is original minus the battery. It was built to be looked after and keep on going, forever. Its a running gag in my family that it will never die, just get a new paintjob and keep on driving. Its odometer currently sits at around...450,000 Kilometres.

And my Mechs aren't old, they are Vintage. ;P

I've read exactly two books (quite good) and played one game (total utter ****), and yah I know a little bit about their time scale. I actually read your sheet and liked the historian/archeologist angle myself.

Now I don't argue the point that both the mechs and your bike work, but how well do you think your bike could do in a race against a modern one?

I'll put those mechs in a museum where they belong. XD

BWAHAHAAHAHAHAAAAA!!! Bring it on! The Vulture and Uziel both have 8 Tons of medium armour. If you can get close enough to tango, I'd like to see your Mechs stand up to the firepower of LRM-20's and 2 PPC's! Team Rising Spirit are using Mechs that are out of date you say, but Lelouch and Kallen are using Mechs designed for warfare, that have never been on the circuit before due to their extreme rareness. (Out of interest,
what game are they from? It looks like they are from either PSOne or early GBA 32/64 bit era.)

As for the Suzuki, it is a Utility truck, known as a ute here in Australia. You might know it as a trayback. It is a Suzuki Jimny LJ20 and I've seen and driven it places Toyota Landcruiser's, HiLux's, Land Rover's, Nissan Patrol's and Mitsubishi Pajero's would not go.

you mechs may have a lot of fire power but what will they do if my mech jumps on their BACK, and then starts clawing it in important areas like the engine or the wires connecting the cockpit and the missile launcher.
EDIT: my text was in the wrong place, silly me.

Ha, let's see you even find the Spearhead! It has one of the most advanced and lightweight stealth systems in the entire MBF, meaning that you can't see it, track it, or hit it. That, and it's mostly cockpit, so good luck getting a legal hit in with those giant cars you call feet.

Hah, your stealth system may block vision, but just shine a floodlight on an area and watch for a shadow.

Though the real threats will be brought to you by STD, our special experimental models such as Astaroth promise to make your lives as difficult as possible. With his heavy armor and our brave and willing pilot, you will be hard pressed to do some critical damage to this machine.

Remember, we here at Sirius Travelers Developmental are always watching, and improving ourselves for the times to come.

Yah, I figured the 'made for the battlefield' thing would be a decent explanation.

As for the game, it's called Ring Of Red. A sadly unknown early PS2 that's probably my favorite game ever. Not perfect, but possibly the best strategy/tactics game ever, in my opinion.

Think I'll go play some now actually.

love the fact you didn't answer how you would defend yourself against what I suggested (which would be a typical kind of attack for my mech).

You two may think that but with the Megazord stomping around everyone won't have a ghost a chance.

Damn straight...

BUT WAIT, WHAT'S THAT? You can't even connect a single hit on the wind God? Best step back son. Oh, your out of ammo? Yeahh. Now it's comin at ya with God knows what and you can't outrun that speedy mother f*cker. Yeaahh.
Dr. Ivan does not care about any of your mechs. Dr. Ivan built his mech with his own two hands. Dr. Ivan is smarter than any scientist or pilot any of you have. Dr. Ivan Just does not care about you. Dr. Ivan just cares about making sure your mech never functions again. Dr. Ivan, *****.

More stuff

XD

love the fact you didn't answer how you would defend yourself against what I suggested (which would be a typical kind of attack for my mech).
Hmm you'd think that, but wait Dinosaur's are extinct. You think a metor killed them...WRONG!!!!!

Ah, everyone here, trash talking like a bunch of neanderthals. You see, I don't need to trash talk, because everyone here knows who has the best mech.

Me.

You see, Ajax could spear anyone 100 miles away. Whether you're invisible, you laser spam, you rocket spam, or you simply want to beat me to death with your fists, you'll never beat Ajax.

Name: Dr. Horatio Faust

Age: 28

Personality: A very eccentric and extravagant man. He's very very flamboyant, and some might even call him outrageous. He'll try anything once and he's a very odd man. If there's a simple solution to something he'll look for a more complicated one just because he can. He's a highly intelligent eccentric.

History: The Faust family name is known for eccentric geniuses but Horatio broke the fabulous mold into an entirely new dimension of fabulousity. At a young age he showed an interest in MW's and studied them profusely, using his family's huge amounts of wealth to fund his studies and his designs, but he could never get anything to work. So he encountered Dr.Ivan and then instantly decided that they were rivals, as his inane fake-rivalry inspired him, he finally made a MW that worked and it suited him well, now he's in the MBF to just faff about and annoy Dr.Ivan, who to this day, does not know who this strange man is.

MW

Name: The Fabulous Flying Faust

Standard Weaponry
-Double cuff-link grenade launchers
-Collar pops off to form bladed boomerang
-Rifle/cane
-Top hat beam cannon

optional weaponry
-Pipe phallus energy blade

other systems
Fabulousity Drive: Truly, Truly, Outrageous.

Construction and History: The Fabulous Flying Faust is the Dream machine that Dr.Faust has spent almost the entirety of his life making and perfecting, it was constructed in the Faust labs by him and him alone as he loving tweaked and tuned every single piece to be his perfect machine.

Just wanted to post this to show I'd be game to be in this.

Name: Conrad "Vesuvius" Hetlan
Age: 38
Appearance:
Personality: Conrad is fairly short(5'6"), scatter-brained, and odd to say the least. When on the ground he's a bit slow to respond but friendly and likable. He is also an incredibly skilled mechanic who knows the ins and outs of most older variants of Mechs and prefers the slower, tougher variants to the fast and fragile ones that are all the rage nowadays.
Conrad isn't very good looking his face is almost permanently greasy with engine fluids and he has an odd smell about him(Engine fluid once again). His hair is a dyed green and he wears an eye patch due to his stigmatism in that eye.
History: Conrad was born approximately 38 years ago. His child hood was nothing special with the exception that he did pretty much nothing but go to school and watch mech battles. At the age of 18 he became a mechanic for a Mech Battledome and studied first hand from the Head Mechanic in both mechanics and mech piloting. Night after night he'd work tirelessly on older models in the junkyard and he studied the components down to the screws. It was at a dump where he came across a large head sticking out of the ground close to several massive guns. He spoke to the manager and begged him to pull the thing out of it. Several hours and all of Conrad's accumulated pay later the Massive mecha was dragged from the ground and moved to Conrad's place of work. During the day he'd work on the many problems of the newer mechs while at night. Conrad was 20 when he began and 18 years of scrounging, replacing and modifying later the newly christened Ferro Vox stood ready to compete once more. It is probably worth noting that Conrad began a relationship with a female mechanic by the name of Arkia Clear during this time. Arkia is the only other person he allows to tinker with the systems. She shares a lot of his traits (Namely the ones involving engine fluid.) but is much taller (around 6' and much quicker when it comes to intelligence)

MW

Name: Ferro Vox(Iron Voice)
Appearance:
Standard Weaponry
2 Double barreled shoulder mounted Laser-Destroyers
1 Arm mounted 100cm cannon with High explosive armour piercing ammo
1 arm mounted
4 40mm Machine guns mounted on the back.
2 40mm Machine guns mounted under each arm Cannon
optional weaponry
(the equipment that the Mech could come into combat with, but is optional)
1 Arm mounted vibro-sword(Replaces a arm cannon)
1 Arm mounted Inferno-blaster(Replaces a arm cannon)
6 Single shot homing missiles
other systems
-Specialty Engine Codenamed Insanity engine; Conrad?s custom secondary engine. Its specialty fuel is some of the best and it can provide energy for the entire suit for 5 minutes. Used as back up system. Its full capabilities are still unknown.
-Shield systems; The Ferro Vox has four shield generators; one is constant and provides protection from all around but three additional independent shield systems that can be brought up at a moments notice. Doing so however taxes the engine and keeping them up is unwise.
Construction and History: (where the machine came from.)
The Ferro Vox is a lumbering Retribution model. While slow it has a incredibly reliable engine and is designed to be very hard to take down. While ideally the Mech can twist its torso around 360 degrees the piloting system is action based meaning that what the pilot does the Mech does and is therefore limited to what the pilot can do. The pilot is also limited by what the mech can do.
The systems that the Ferro Vox uses are all modified by Conrad but are technically standard issue to the mech(Most of the Ferro Vox's systems are normal but are more numerous.). It relies on sheer power and endurance to outlast the quicker more agile mechs. The Mech also contains quite a few redundant systems in case the primary is lost. Conrad has spent a long part of his life inside and with the Ferro Vox and knows the systems specs and limits better than anyone and is a excellent fighter in it.

My word you guys are getting spirited about this game! I love it!

@Boostergold: I've gotten quite a few abbreviations of my name over the years. Toughie, Sarge, my lord, what have you. Feel free to call me whatever the hell you want.

@Jakeman: No. God no. Do you have any idea how long of a post that would be? If you want to find a character's sheet, you can dig it up yourself. I know that's lazy of me, but you know what? I really don't care. Anyway, here's you guys' first IC post. Since this is more about story and character interaction then anything else, we're starting things off nice and slow.

................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Location: MBF main waiting lobby

It was the start of a new season of mech battling, after about five months of down time for all of the pilots to rest and let down their hair, the time for each of them to step into the field of battle had come again. And, just like every season that had come before it, the lobbies of MBF main headquarters was flooded with people itching to make a name for themselves. Instead of working off a contract system, the MBF had pilots enroll on a yearly basis, each new season brought about a new contract and a fresh start for every pilot that took part.

For many of the elites, this paperwork was nothing more then a mere formality, but for the newcomers, this was their one chance to really make a name for themselves. This was their chance to work towards a life of fame and stardom, with everybody the world over knowing their face and memorizing their name. Everybody was looking to be the next Gigasteel Joe, or the next Mattias Malrain, legends of their time who would be remembered for their glorious victories for generations yet to be born. Today, these dreamers had their chance to start walking down that path, they had their chance to make their name known.

Anybody could show up to MBF registration, so long as they owned an MW and they were willing to fight. However, they had to bring a resume' with them, and they had to be approved for the preliminaries by an attendant at the front desk, who would look over their past accomplishments and ensure that they had the qualifications necessary to entertain the world at large.

Once approved for preliminary competition, the pilots were told that they would be contacted when their first match came, and they would be sent away. The preliminaries were yet another hassle that stood in the way of the elites, yet carried pulse pounding excitement to the newbies. Pilots would be pitted against one another based upon a randomly set number of variables that took place beyond the view of the pilots. They would fight one another before the official league began, and their performance in the preliminaries determined who they would be put against once the real league began. After all, nobody wants to pay to watch some of the best in the league completely demolish greenhorn rookies every single match, which was what would happen without the preliminaries.

The preliminaries also served as an elimination for all those that weren't quite up to the standards that the MBF had set. Since MBF signups were open to the pubic, there had to be some sort of system in place to prevent any average high school student from consuming screen time.

This was also a prime time for pilots to meet one another while they waited to get their paperwork filed. With the full knowledge that this would be a multiple day event, the MBF allowed for certain food chains to set up booths within the park area just out front of the headquarters. It was wonderful for the food chains, as they made bank off all the pilots that would come in droves, all of them hungry. As mentioned just before, there was also a rather large park surrounding the headquarters. It was spacious, and allowed for people to get plenty of breathing room if they felt themselves getting a bit overwhelmed by all the people waiting right at the front of the building while waiting for their line number to show up on the screen. It would have been anarchy to try and get anything civil done in such a way were it not for the line number system that was implemented.

All things considered, it would be a long day for even the early risers.

..................................................

Mira groaned as she looked down at her line number.
"983!? I had no idea that the MBF had so many people wanting to sign up! The preliminaries must really get rid of a lot of people."

The thought of such a thing made the attractive black haired girl shiver, she questioned if she was really good enough to make it in the big league itself. Even with Einenlancer by her side, she still had a lot to be desired. It was very possible that she'd get pitted against all the wrong people, and then she'd lose every match, and then she'd be booted from the league before she even had a chance to prove herself.
"C'mon, that's not true. I was in the top of my class during that training seminar, and I've shined in all of the prior circuits... I'm ready for this."

She took a deep breath to calm herself down as she sat down on one of the benches. She cast her gaze upwards towards the bar screen that hung from the building off in the distance.
"115, 116, 117..."

She groaned and cast her gaze down to the floor.
"... Damn"
