That doesn't make any sense, why is it there?

Fricken wooden crates.

Why are they everywhere? Why would people pack a huge wooden crate with a single medkit? How did they get there, when there's no pallet underneath them for a forklift to move them?
And why are most wooden crates found in large clusters when only one MIGHT have one medkit in it? Just put the medkits on a fucking table.

Why are there batteries for my one of a kind HEV suit everywhere?
Because they're reverse engineered from Combine batteries and the Combine happen to throw them in caves.
'Cause, thats what normal people do.

Exploding barrels. WHY? And why are they everywhere? And why do bad guys seem to think they make for good cover?

How come there's weapons and health in piles right before boss battles? Wouldn't it make sense to have weapons strewn about the battlefield where the boss was ripping the people apart?

My sister brings this one up every time I play an RPG:
In an RPG, we're basically playing through those character's entire lives from the point at which the game started... So when do they go to the bathroom?

Also, how come they're able to stay in the same set of clothes for the entire game, despite the fact that by the time one reaches the final dungeon, they're bound to be grimy, bloody and torn to hell and back?

The armor is invisible and the clothes are fine. Also they change their clothes in the inn when they go to sleep.

At the same time Jack Bauer does...

In Half-Life, why are all the heath/batteries on the wall always full? Do they have a 'Reserved for Gordon Freeman' sign on them or something?

I would love to design a game, as a bit of a parody, where a lot of these things are present all in one game. Throughout the game the evil villian is creating all kinds of obstacles for you and creating things that just don't make sense; but things that are a staple in a lot of games. Eventually you start overcoming the "invisible barriers" and chase down this "madman".

I will second this one.

Also, boxes and crates every where in almost every FPS ever made. Why so many boxes and crates? Because they are easy, that is why! Devs need to stop being lazy with environment decoration.
Because everybody loves crates! (Reference to my custom UT3 level, no one will ever see it online, unless you ask for the raw data, I am willing to give it out.)

In virtually any first or 3rd person game: Bushes that I just can't get past. Apparently, brush can be SO THICK, that it can stop a huge guy with an ax/gun/explosives from getting through.

Design your levels more accordingly please.
I know what you mean. In Mercs 2 nothing could really stop where you were going(except bad satalite signal) but whenever I tried to walk by or through one of the big bushes growing , my guy would slow to the point that I began to think there were little tar pits under every bush.

in half-life 2, why can't they put a little more effort into the background scenery when you are in city 17; it would be cool while on the rooftops you cold see other people getting pwn3d by striders and building collapsing, instead of just the monotonous rubble and debris and sky that I always see. Other than that, hl2 FTW<3

I always just figured that they did what real knights did, I.E. just take a crap in their clothes and pay someone to scoop it out later, after they beat the final boss, I mean, why else would they act all constipated when ever they use their ultimate attacks?

I have a much bigger problem with the way most games have magic boxes all over the place that repair wounds (of any severity) instantly. No one ever tries to explain that.

In GTA games, you could happily run straight past the cops brandishing a massive bazooka or machine gun, and they don't give a toss. But dent their car slightly, and they're willing to shoot you. What kinda law enforcement is that?

Also in RPGs when you find random bits of meat and fruit lying around in caves, often next to dead bodies, and it gives you health. Eww!

More importantly, why eat food you found in the carcass of a monster? And I'm not talking about killing a rabbit and getting rabbit meat, I mean killing a giant behemoth and getting beef (Tales of Symphonia).
