That doesn't make any sense, why is it there?

Why is there ammo everywhere?!
I have a much bigger problem with the way most games have magic boxes all over the place that repair wounds (of any severity) instantly. No one ever tries to explain that.
shhhhhh, they'll hear you...

Why is it in half the FPS's out there, every time you reload your weapon you can start shooting as soon as you see the bullet counter refilled, BEFORE you chamber the first round? What, did God just magic it in there or something?

Also, why is it always the cars engine that catches on fire and then blows up, instead of the gas tank? I didn't know my battery was made out of C-fucking-4.

in half-life 2, why can't they put a little more effort into the background scenery when you are in city 17; it would be cool while on the rooftops you cold see other people getting pwn3d by striders and building collapsing, instead of just the monotonous rubble and debris and sky that I always see. Other than that, hl2 FTW<3
Likely because I, personally, am playing on a two-year-old laptop, not HAL 9000, and I kind of doubt that most of their audience is playing on something similarly powerful.

Some people have mentioned crates; one guy even mentioned the lack of shipping pallets and forklifts. I have to question why the crates themselves are even there; goods have been shipped on pallets in cardboard boxes piled up and kept together with shrink-wrap since the 1960s. I guess I can understand having some crates around if your game takes place before then, but I certainly don't understand it in the far-flung future.

Most of these questions can be explaned by two words "processing power". In particular the barrier problems. As for the enemy questions see Dr. Evil (Austin Powers) also allow me to quote the main bad guy in the web comic Order of the Stick. Minion asks why the set up with weakest troops in the front he responds with "I'm freaking bored!".

Why does water always kill me?

Except for Pyschonauts, which actually humorously explained this gameplay mechanic.
I like it when games explain something as off the wall as falling into water killing your character. Not like, say, Halo 3, where you play the most badass fighter in the military that can essentially kill everything in sight because he's that cool, but the water just touching his ankle in the middle of a fire-fight makes him slip into it and DIE.

No, I'm not bitter. Not at all.

That's a pretty compelling and well argued post! Too bad the Xbox 360 doesn't have the hardware to render constant activity by a large number of entities in an area many kilometers wide, either.
