The final battle of the first Golden Sun. You've killed Saturos and Menardi...just about. All four characters are hanging on by their fingertips. Is this the end? Hell no! They now fuse into a FUCK OFF HUGE DRAGON who can pick its attacks from a list the size of an Argos catalogue. Killing that thing was an enormous accomplishment.

Fighting Chaos, so much fun and so epic. Favorite boss fight I have ever experienced.

Chernabog from Kingdom Hearts. The only Disney villain to have unique music.

I've nearly gotten myself killed several times, just because I was listening to the music...

Krauser from Resident Evil 4

It was the first boss fight where it wasn't you against an impossible foe, but the clash of the titans where you go toe-to-toe, man against man, in a fight of who's more badass atop a tower that's set to fucking explode. The build up made it the ultimate showdown if you ask me.
Truth.
when you realize that the knife does crazy damage against him, the fight almost becomes a letdown...almost.

The entire level you fight the Barons of Hell in at the end of the first episode in Doom was made of win. The creepy music combined with the seemingly eternal elevator ride to get to their lair made the fight memorable. Also, who didn't almost shit their 1993-era pants when they first heard their roars? The randomized pitches some versions had made it one of the most dissonant and terrifying sounds in gaming ever. Once you finally kill them, you find more stairs to get to the final teleporter. The stairs take forever to unfold, and when they finally do...
you are teleported into a room where you're surrounded by monsters. There is no way to win. You die. End of first episode. That's right, Infinity Ward. Id beat you by about 14 years.

Isn't the "That One Boss" trope usually one you really hate or is really difficult for no good reason?
Thankfully, most people don't trawl that website.

I agree with the opening poster. The 'Legion' bosses from the Castlevania series are always a blast, especially the grandfather of them all, Granfaloon. It's almost a shame I can beat them so easily, now; they just don't seem very intimidating anymore, and a boss that can't kick your ass at a moment's notice loses a lot of its mystique.

On that subject though, Ace Combat Zero and its cadre of familiar faces never disappoints. It's always a thrill to run into people like Ashley Bernitz and the Colonel- and then blasting them out of the sky. I always wondered, did the first Adler really die in the war fifteen years ago? Or is that just misinformation?

The king of all those cameos, though, is Mobius 1 in his esoteric bonus appearance. Beat the fourth squad of the hidden boss rush mission on the highest difficulty, and the Ribbon himself appears to terrify you! He completely lives up to his reputation, and you rarely ever see it coming if and when he kills you.

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of any right now.

When I had it, Twilight Princess' Ganondorf(oooo, spoiler! not) was insanely fun to fight.

Then Dante's brother, Virgil in Devil May Cry 3 was awesome to fight. Just fun as hell. Really hard.

Chrono Trigger's Lavos.

That or, the Megaman series "Devil" clay giant monster guys, specifically the yellow one, from the original games, and the black one from the X series. Even though the black one kicked my ass when I first saw him in X5 I was still overjoyed to see him return.

Sephiroth in KH2. Dude has 3, 3! Instant kill combos and can kill you in the first 2 seconds of the fight depending on your level.

He was an annoying bastard! Especially with that firewall of doom he pulled out of ass during his second stage. He music was amazing and I enjoyed fighting him. Wish they brought his back in KH2 but alas.

Ganondorf from OoT. I saved right in front of the boss so I could fight against him any time I want. Combined with the music and gameplay it is my favorite boss ever!

I'd say the end boss fight of Ocarina of Time. It's easy as hell, but it's still a fun sequence.

Tron Bonne, from the two Mega Man Legends games.

It started when I bought MML 2 on a whim. I pretty much thought it was crap until Tron came along. She is quite possibly the greatest comic villain I've seen in a game. Tron is arrogant, stubborn and hell-bent on destroying MegaMan - but she also has a secret crush on him!

I bought MML1 just because Tron was in it. This is another great thing about Tron: She's too stubborn to quit. You get to fight her several times in both games, and it's ALWAYS a blast - especially for Tron herself! Her battle robots ALWAYS explode in a glorious blaze when defeated. She seems pathologically incapable of building anything that simply STOPS when its health bar is empty.

Here's a video of Mega Man's second encounter with Tron:

(Their first encounter involved Mega Man saving Tron from a small puppy.)

In the Starfox 64 game, when you first face Star Wolf team on the white planet, I love it. The music is epic and it's the most fun I have during the entire game. It's air combat in it's best. It may be a bit easy sometimes, and the 2nd time you get to face him isn't as good but still wonderful.

Star Fox's repetitive linear levels in which you fly forwards isn't as fun as fighting AI who are sorta skilled until one of your engines die and you have to leave.

Final Fantasy X. Evrae, Seymour Flux and Overdrive Sin can all hand your your arse if you don't know they're there in advance and don't train beforehand. In the case of the International/PAL versions, the Dark Aeons can destroy you before you even get a turn if you haven't spent a LOT of time training.

Borderlands. Mothrakk. The quest says it's level 21, given the difficulty of "Trivial". Okay then, no problem. I drove straight there, summon him and he turns out to be level 25. I can't do any damage, while he throws two fireballs at me, bringing my vehicle to about 15 health and forcing me to bail out. He then bombards me with fireballs, killing me before I can get a second sniper shot off. I wasn't pleased.

God of War 2. Theseus on Titan. He has an attack where he summons icicles from the floor that cover an eighth of the area, and touching a single icicle kills you instantly. Not once did I die by any other means during that fight and I counted how many tries it took me. I died 42 times.

Gears of War. RAAM on Insane. I HAD to use the bug where he get stuck behind the concrete block to beat him. The best part was, he even killed me with his Troika one time while he was stuck and I was behind cover.

Turok (2008). The Beast. He has an attack where he rips two stalactites from the ceiling and throws them at you, one after the other. Getting hit by one drains half your health, and if you roll too early, he anticipates this and throws it right at you, hitting you every time. If your health is low enough, he can eat you for an instakill. You also have to kill him by igniting a gas vent in the ground at the right time with a flamethrower about twelve to fifteen times. Did I mention that this was on Normal difficulty, and there are two difficulty levels above that?
