Have you ever played Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete? Every boss in the game is like that! EVERY BOSS! Part of the problem is that they apparently scale to you. And bosses tend to have some serious attacks. Take the Saline Slimer. He heals a small amount (probably about as much as you can do in a single turn with regular attacks) every turn, and can do a moderate amount of damage with his basic attacks. To add insult to injury, he can use an attack called Mucus that will trap one character for about 4-5 turns. If he traps the main character, you're screwed, because only the hero has an attack that can do enough damage to really overcome the healing effect. By the way. Saline Slimer is the game's FIRST boss. There are plenty of other tough bosses. The game's final boss I could fight for over 30 minutes (close to an hour I think) and still lose because I'd run out of MP. Yeah. This game was made of "That One Boss".

To be fair, there were plenty of bosses I beat in my first shot, but plenty that I had to fight 3 times or more before I beat them. And often times it was an ordeal. Some were still difficult in later playthroughs.
[small]I really hate the Saline Slimer[/small]

I don't know why I found them soo difficult. They killed me probably 50 times before I finally beat them.

The lava spider in dark souls.i had so much trouble with that boss fight it's not even funny, i spent 3 hours trying to beat it (the distance between the bonfire and the boss is about 2 minutes ). I wasted so much humanity to summon allies and fail on that boss. But when i beat it man did i feel good.

Also a couple of bosses in FFXIII. i cant remeber their names but i hink one was the last boss fight on disc 2. I really liked that game for the bosses though, imo it took strategy , speed and timing ( with a little luck).

"sigh"? What is "Sigh"?
Well, a sigh is when you play through the first three levels over and over again to farm orbs to buy powerups to kill a boss. Only to continue to have it leap across the entire room and spincut you into a wall, again, and again, and again, until your rage becomes sentient, at which point it takes over, and obliterates that boss, after 3 days of getting nowhere.
THAT IS WHAT A SIGH IS.

Also, Why did everyone find Seymore Flux( Mt Gagazet) So hard, was it the Zombie/Fulllife, or Cross Slash, or what?

General RAAM, Gears of War 1. I managed the entire campaign on Insane difficulty, ALONE. Was feeling really good about myself; made it through choke point after choke point, became one with the game. Got all the way to the very last boss, RAAM... and could NOT beat him. YouTube vids, wikis, forums, hints, strategy guides, none of them helped. At one of the the lowest points in my life, I had to ask a friend to co-op with me, just that very LAST fight, to finish the game. I still have that pre-RAAM save and about once every 6 months or so, I pop it back in and try to beat RAAM alone so I can said I did it... but I still can't.
God, you too? I thought there was just something wrong with me. I managed to beat RAAM on my first playthrough (well, after dieing two or three times). I honest to God don't know how. I think it was just the right combination of weapons and timing. My second playthrough, fucker just would not die. I tried every weapon combination. I healed Dom, I left Dom to die, I got to the machine gun; everything I could think of. Nothing work. Bastard just kept coming back. After a while I just said, "Fuck it! Beat him once by myself already! Just so long as I know I can do it!"

Right now, my choice would be Flamelurker from Demon's Souls. He's too fast and kills my character in 2-3 hits.

Sons of Arugal in WoW back when I played it kept showing up and pasting me from level 12-20 in that forest place.

The first YMIR mech in Mass Effect 2 is stupidly hard to fight because all of your powers suck and your weapons do piffle amounts of damage to its ungainly amount of shielding and armour, yet it instakills you pretty much. By the mid-point of the game, they're almost a joke; a quick spattering of Tempest and a single shot from the Widow and they're toast.

Oh and there are plenty in the KOTORs;
The fight against the Vulkars over the swoop component is a pain.
Darth Bandon, if you face off against him on Korriban; for some reason he's nigh on invincible there, yet when you face him on anywhere else he's pathetic.
The fight against Saul Karath is ridiculous on account of being pretty much surrounded.
The mercenary commander and his men on Telos.
And Darth Sion on Korriban.
just to name a few

Sephiroth and other bonus bosses from Kingdom Hearts don't count...They're meant to be optional and obscenely difficult, and deliberately don't fit into the flow of the game.

That leader Mandalorian on Dantooine,KotOR I.He hits like a goddamn freight train.Sure you can come back and beat him later, but after going through his flunkies,it just seems mean spirited to make him so hard.

God of War 3, hardest mode (Chaos I think). went through the game like a hot knife through Hades nads, only problem was (somewhere near the end i think) some three headed dog or whatever stood blocking the way.... I mean I just bent over half the underworld and had my way with a planet like god and yet facking Fido made me his ***** for hours.... turns out my bro did it on first try because he had upgraded the default weapon where I had foolishly upgraded everything but! Also game developers DONT auto save before a boss and give respawns NO FUCKING HEALTH!!!

Final Fantasy IV... That stupid wall...
That thing! All those trap doors I could barely beat depleted my entire inventory, then that freaking thing comes and I for the life of me could never bring it down before it starts insta-killing everyone!

Evil Wall: "What's that? You only made one save, are completely out of cures, pheonix downs, and ethers and already put weeks into getting this far? HAHA!! *SQUISH*"

I think that was the exact moment I learned to make multiple saves...

I don't know whether this counts as a boss or not but General Jingwei the last guy in Operation Anchorage for Fallout 3. I fought him so many times and he JUST. WOULDN'T. DIE!!!

Oh and while this is definitely not a boss battle I'm at a fight with 3 stalkers on Resistance 2 that seems to be quite hard.

Have you ever been playing a game where a boss suddenly shows up and just kicks your ass? I'm not talking final bosses, just bosses that you run into in the middle of a game and they just own you. Repeatedly.
Not sure if its a boss, but I do remember one time in Spore.

My cute cuddly little creature (I named him pinchy) just walked out of the ocean. Stretching his new legs and walking on his new little feet. Jumping around, singing.

I hear a chilling warcry as a flying dragon thing drops from the sky and eats my little guy in seconds. Followed by me screaming "WTF!"

It definitely felt like that typical rape you get from a boss. As for repeatedly, after I created a new character the same thing happened except this time it was by an epic version of Pinchy.

Sorceress Adel, I think it was, from Final Fantasy VIII. The one in the stupid tower that had partially absorbed Rhinoa etc. etc. I actually gave up on that game because of that *****.

EDIT: Also that damn Dark Elf guy in Final Fantasy IV and the damn spiky tiger in Secret of Mana.

EDIT2: Also I remember that damn swamp worm in Secret of Evermore giving me a hard time, but now I can beat him without breaking a sweat.

Boost Guardian from Metroid Prime 2.

Some context: I have played through every Metroid game there is now, many of them repeatedly particularly Super and all 3 of the Prime trilogy.

And in all of these playthroughs, this bastard is the one boss of the franchise who I have never gotten past without at least 2 deaths. Last time I played he gave me TEN despite the rest of the run being flawless. Even if you know exactly what do for each form he can 'combo' you if you get unlucky, costing you half your health, leaving you scrambling to kill Inglets and praying they drop some energy.

Hardest boss would probably have to be the Boost Guardian on Hard (Metroid Prime 2, not the Trilogy), think I died over 10 times then finally managed to beat him, the randomness of his pattern and the ridiculous damage he put out made him harder than the Emperor Ing and Dark Samus combined xD
THIS. I'm glad someone got to this before I did. I'd hate to have to fight the Boost Guardian in the Trilogy version...lock-on free-aim and this bugger? *shudders*
Can't you turn off the free-look when locking onto something for Prime 1 and 2 though? Also, pretty sure they made the boost guardian (and spider guardian I believe) easier in the trilogy version :/

A couple come to mind: Matodor from Nocturne: I've only beat him once and it was by sheer luck,I really should have not hit him as often as I did.

Kanji from P4, he is just brutal, if he doesn't kill you his minions see to it. It is so satisfying to come back on new game + with Yoshitsune and decimate him.

Gattuso from Tale of Vesperia: Come the fuck out of nowhere and hit's like a fucking truck, and he's only the third boss in the game.
