Gta4 which isn't a bad game, just a very disappointing gta game; the second dlc pack made it a little better but was way overpriced.
Same with Burnout Paradise. I can understand why people like it but after playing Burnout 3 and Revenge, it just seems so lame.

I know Borderlands has already been said several times... so here it is again!

Borderlands!

And to answer the exact opposite question, a game that I wish I HAD bought instead of just rented is War of the Monsters. That's one of the best games I've ever played, but I've never been able to find it in a store.

I don't think I've ever rented a game, I just buy everything although if it's something I'm not sure on I'll read a few reviews and ask a few mates what its like.

Oblivion

I'll probably get into it and beat it eventually, but with Fallout 3 (now the GOTY edition) in my collection, it's going to collect a lot of dust until then. My girlfriend enjoys it, and I got it in a buy one get one free deal so I got a Trauma Center and the total was 10 dollars, but I was still upset at how unfun it was when I popped it in and started it up

I regret buying Chromehounds, Too Human, Prototype, WET, Mirror's Edge, Final Fantasy 13, Juiced 2, GTA4 and Far Cry 2. Every other game I bought was worth it, in my opinion.

And I don't rent; I do some research on the game(s) I want before getting them.

There have been plenty of games over the years that I somewhat regret, but the first that pops into my mind has to be Bloody Roar 4.

I had super high hopes after playing 1-3 obsessively for years and thought there could be no way for 4 to be bad, so I bought it on release day, thus paying full price(very rare for me).

It had 2 new characters that I liked and the graphics looked great, but that's about the extent of positive things I can say about it. The game was otherwise terrible. They completely re-worked the health/beast bar system and it just butchered the gameplay.

I wish they would make a new BR with all the characters from 1-4(minus Ryoko/Mana), up to date graphics and the game mechanics from 2. That would be awesome.

Edit: I rented games as a kid before you could easily research what they were like. Now I just read up on them and/or buy them once the price has dropped to below $15.

The new AvP, was fun when I played the demo...but just dropped off so suddenly, and I just could not get over some of the BS that was in the multiplayer :(

I don't rent games, I really should though.

The thing is, it's only recently that I have started regretting some purchases. God of war 3, red dead redemption and haze are just some of the disappointments.

Well:
Halo 3, ODST, Mass Effect 2, Oblivion, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 (I was young and foolish), Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2. And that's just for the XBox 360.
And also for the 360, Lost Planet 2. I wish, however, I had rented that before I bought it. Really don't like it. But, I did get 3 free t-shirts in GameStop from it (was only meant to get one. Dude was really sound), so I can pretend I spent ?30 on t-shirts and a fiver on the game, which makes me feel better.

Actually I was going through my games and I really haven't bought a bad game. Culdcept didn't really keep my attention long since there wasn't a difficulty curve involved, but it was still worth it for the uniqueness alone.

i don't rent games, although I probably should.
However, I usually don't get a game unless I've played it at a friend's and enjoyed it or it has recieved an ASTOUNDINGLY good consensus from reviewers, so usually I'm not dissapointed (although MW2 springs to mind as an exception).
