He does bear some resemblances to Freeman. Not to mention the whole G-man can be interpreted many ways. Also, he is my favorite character from the series (half because he sounds like a victim of a stroke.)

G----- ----Man
Gordon Freeman

I also suggest getting the Opposing Forces expansion for HL1. Adrian Shepherd kicks ass.
Gman isn't his name. Officially he has no name and has never had one. Fans started to call him Gman because his HL1 file was called Gman. Valve never gave him name but instead titled his files as Gman which is slang for Government Man because he looks like one. So the old theory you just brought up has been proven wrong long ago.

I like the idea he is a dimensional lawyer. A defendant of earth against other races and planets.

It fits!

He is exactly what they wanted him to be.
Anything.
When Valve made the game they wanted the G-man to be anything and everything. Do you relise that you guys alone have suggested over 20 possibly explinations for the G-man? Valve wnats him to be this entity whos motives, history, and employers are whatever you want them to be, and he has so many possiblitys that seeing him makes you happy because you might find out something, and if not he himself is so weird you get enjoyment out of it. Look, to summerise, he is anything...for the moment.

He runs a hiring agency..which Freeman and Shepherd are currently employees.

After all Breen did say 'your contract is open to the highest bidder'

That assumes he is being payed.

Perhaps he is paying, perhaps 'your' is humanity, and we put out a contract, people do 'bid' for contracts to complete them. Who knows?

I personally like to think that there were generations of "gordon freemans" and "g-mans" working to manipulate events in favor of the g-mans "employers" like the g-man may have been a previous "gordon freeman" with an overseer like the g-man, only he replaced his own overseer and now watches the "new" gordon freeman. remember how gordon doesn't talk? and how the g-man needs speech lessons? Anyone see a connection? Sorry if this confusing, i'm not very good at putting my thoughts into words.

In short, what i'm saying is that the gordon we know now will be the next g-man.

G-Man stands for Government Man, and is the model name given to G-Man in Half Life 1. It has no connection to Gordon Freeman, and if you go to any Half-Life based site and mention that, you will probably be hated for life on there.

I'm sorry, I just wanted to be sure I read right. Favorite character? YOU must have suffered from a stroke. Noone is allowed to like him. He's an asshole. Period. Nobody likes an asshole.

I find he makes the game. He's certainly more of a character than the protagonist, or anyone else in the game.
Hmm. I guess people do like assholes sometimes. I mean, look at Gordon and the way he never speaks, that's just rude.

He always shows up and has some random rant in a creepy voice, implies your sleeping then buggers off.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. Not like the guy gives Gordon a choice in the matter, though, what with the stasis and all. I used to think the G-man was some servant of the Nihilanth from Half-Life one. He brought the sample material that caused the resonance cascade, after all, which allowed the Nihilanth to send his forces through to Earth. After beating Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 I still thought this as I learned that the Combine invaded and destroyed the Nihilanth's homeworld as well, leaving the one you fight in Xen the supposed last of his kind. It made sense he'd reuse Gordon to fight the combine. After playing Epsisode 2 though, I'm starting to wonder. It almost seems like the G-man's working for some other group who, for whatever reason, seem to have an interest in Earth. I'm also starting to distrust the Vortigaunts. Not sure why. Just hope we finally get some clarity on the matter in Episode 3.

Also, most of the speculation of Adrian Shepherds role is moot. He was the protagonist of Half-Life: Opposing Force which was made by Gearbox, not Valve, and under license from Sierra back when they owned the rights to the Half-Life name (before Valve's contract was up). So, officially, Adrian's not a part of the Half-Life story...as Valve tells it anyway. Besides, technically, he dies at the end. Admittedly though, I'd love to see Valve make a spin-off series much like Opposing Force, but the primary protagonist is a Combine soldier. Would be interesting to see the whole rebel uprising (or the 7 Hours War) from the Combine's point of view.

I have 2 questions about the Gman:

What is in his briefcase? (not that noclip explanation)
and
Who are his "employers"?

These questions keep me up at night.
In Half Life 1, a pencil, some paper, and a pistol.

The G-man is not Gordon Freeman, I don't even see how that could be the case.
Gman is just a codename, used for his character model

If you don't have anything nice to say, just shut the fuck up. I guess he doesn't have anything nice to say since everyone and everything clearly wants him DEAD.
