I hate it when people use their mobile phones at inappropriate times...
I.e.:
In places they shouldn't (around aircraft... hospitals etc)
In the bar
In my car (phonecalls- other than If I am making them on my own)
And the problem with using them in the bar is...what exactly?
If they need to make a phonecall/text someone for an actual reason, what's so special about the inside of your car? Also, does complaining about people using phones in your car, but being "allowed" to make them yourself not seem a tad hypocritical?
Mobiles also don't really have any effect on Aircraft and Hospitals, because they operate on entirely different frequencies, because y'know building something that could be buggered up by a mobile is a really bad design flaw were it true.
Obviously there are times when using them are inappropriate but it just seems you don't mobiles being used in your presence rather than the actual context. People are usually phoning people for a reason, most people don't really phone up from their mobile for a random chat, because it's expensive and/or drains the battery pretty quickly.
I am a military officer... The bar, along with the Anteroom are public rooms in the mess... and it is considered very rude to use a phone in such a room.
When I am on my own in my car I will make phonecalls... but I won't make someone else sit and awkwardly listen to my conversations whilst I am driving... unless they are involved of course... like we are meeting with someone and trying to get their whereabouts. But that is a functional phonecall... not a social one! Someone recently, whilst I was driving with 5 in the car, received a phonecall and proceded to have a 20 min conversation with the person on the other end. In this time I had to have the radio turned down and noone else could speak so that they could hear there conversation... that is just rude.
Hospitals are very inappropriate places to wonder around with a phone having a loud conversation about how pissed you were the other weekend... it's about the time and place.
I wasn't talking about civilian aircraft... Military aircraft have a lot more transmitters and receivers at a huge frequency range... phones also transmit with a range of frequencies, and also have recording sensors on that are inappropriate to have around aircraft.
Where as I do agree that sometimes functional calls are important, in my experience the people who use them in the areas I mentioned arn't usually having quick work discussions...
