My two favorites are segments of poetry from T.S. Eliot and Edgar Lee Masters, respectively.

From "The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock":

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed in seaweed red and brown,
Till human voices wake us and we drown.

From "Fiddler Jones":

The earth keeps some vibration going
There in your heart and that is you.
And if the people find you can fiddle,
Why, fiddle you must, for all your life.

Hmmm... Lets go with Tarja's 'Boy and the Ghost'

Every time I listen to it intently I get shivers down my spine.
Went to youtube and favourited this. Why do you like this, the poem or the singer?

A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

The Polling Stones "Gime Shelter" and "Paint it Black" and most of the songs by the Police, when i was a kid i liked the police cuz i liked the sounds they made, now that I'm older I realize all their songs are about whores or suicide or something else fucked up.

I present to you a thought-provoking verse of the classic "Bad Romance" by Lady GaGa.

"Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah
Roma, roma-ma,
GaGa, ooh la la"

Breathtaking.

'Hurt', by Johnny Cash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ahHWROn8M0
It moves me because it reminds me of darker times in my life and that the darkness is still there inside waiting for me to fall again. :(

"Day to day, where do you want to be?
'Cuz now you're tryin' to pick a fight
With everyone you need.
You seem like a soldier
Who's lost his composure
You're wounded and play a waiting game
In no-man's-land, no one's to blame."

See the World by Gomez.

What sticks out to me at the moment is Eminem's new Single.
'I'd shoot for the moon, but I'm too busy gazing at stars. I feel amazing and I'm not afraid'
also
'It's time to excercise my demons, these motherfuckers are doing jumping jacks now!'

That song single handedly reminded me why I listen to hip hop.

"Boys and girls in cars
Dogs and birds on lawns
From here I can touch the sun
Yeah

Put your jackets on
I feel we're being born
The Tropic of Capricorn is below
Yeah

We stall above the pole
Still your face is young
As we feel our weight return
Yeah

A trail of shooting stars
The horses' call of storm
Because the air contains the charge
Yeah

The radio is on
And Houston knows the score
Can you feel it?
We're almost home
Yeah

The crew compartment's breaking up
The crew compartment's breaking up
The crew compartment's breaking up
The crew compartment's breaking up
(This is all I wanted to bring home)
The crew compartment's breaking up
(This is all I wanted to bring home)
The crew compartment's breaking up
(This is all I wanted to bring home)
The crew compartment's breaking up
(This is all I wanted to bring home to you)"

From The Long Winters' "The Commander Thinks Aloud". Possibly the only song I've ever heard that changes tone and message from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other in a single line without changing tempo, instruments, or even key. Five words and nothing else take a previously heartwarming and uplifting experience and make it plunge into ice cold dread.

Warren Zevon - My shit's fucked up
All the lyrics of this song, very good, also funny, whilst being sung calmly
On a more serious note, plague of butterflies by swallow the sun has always hit me hard, its so depressing but awesome to listen to when you are already feeling down in the dumps

The song I'll Believe In Anything by Wolf Parade. I dare anyone to find a song from the last decade NOT by the Flaming Lips that is so mind-numbingly beautiful... If you can get over Krug's voice, that is. Which I can.

Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost

We've both been very brave, walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day, we both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

But I'll believe in anything, and you'll believe in anything
Said I'll believe in anything, and you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the water, I'd share a life and you'd share a life (2x)
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd take you where nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn
Said nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn

And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away your trips from you
And I could take away the salt from your eyes
And take away the spitting salt in you
And I could give you my apologies
By handing over my neologies
And I could take away the shaking knees
And I could give you all the olive trees as well
Oh look at the trees and look at my face and look at a place far away from here

Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost

We've both been very brave, walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day, we both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

But I'll believe in anything, and you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the water, I'd share a life and you'd share a life (2x)
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd take you where nobody knows you and, nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost
Because nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way

And now I'll believe in anything and you'll believe in anything
Because nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn either way

Lot's of good examples mentioned already. I'll just add a dubious and nice line from Dylan's song "My Back Pages"

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
