So, there I was killing my third dragon for the day. FUS RO DAH! Then, I walk up to it and collect its soul (as I pretend I'm the guy was the guy from Highlander who takes the other guy's quickening). It's all normal procedure. I collect the Dragon Bones and Scales and off I go. That is until I saw Farkas kneeling beside me. At that moment, it dawned on me - I don't need him or care about him, he is just there to hold my crap. Then, it dawned on me again, I don't care about any companion in the game - they are all just moving crates. I don't hold Skyrim at that high place that everyone (including me before this) puts it in because of the absence of this feature/this feeling that I see as an extremely important addition in any game.

I was playing Fallout: New Vegas before this. It was just me and Raul. Stylin', Flyin', and Profiln' across the wastes. As we walked, I didn't view Raul as a meat sac. I saw him as a companion who got hit by some bad luck and horrible occasions (the story of his time in Mexico really got me). The same goes with every other companion in the game (except Rex - don't give a crap about him). I felt that they were worth a damn; unlike the companions in Skyrim. The worst part about this is that I read that there are around 50 companions, which in my eyes means that there are 50 boxes to choose from. Okay, maybe some of them may have an interesting story like Raul or Boone or basically everyone in FO:NV, but that isn't enough.

What was a feature you didn't like from Skyrim? (what I said, a quest, the story, a weapon, etc)

I'm already bored by Skyrim....it feels like offline WoW.

edit: lemme elaborate

Game is like a firecracker, explosive burst of fun that fizzles away really fast.
Dragons were super exiting first couple of time, now i just ignore them.
Aside from the main quest and couple of daedric quest all the other quests are just repetitive "go there, kill that, come back"
Linear dungeons that, like dragons, are great the first time around, but get really boring really fast.
There is literary no need to use your brain at all. Your hand is held the whole time.
Consoly controls for PC.
Bunch of tiny details that get really irritating after a while. Why can't i tell my char to smelt all my iron ore instead of having to click and confirm for each and every ingot, or why cant i name my saves?
And above everything else NPCs need to STFU. There is literary nothing that irritates me more than all the retarded NPCs who start telling random crap about their lives every time i pass them. I don't care if you work in that shop over there and if you think it's a hard job. I don't care where and with whom you live with. I don't care if you think that it's getting cold and how your crops might fail this season. I don't know you, i don't care about you, i'm not making eye contact (in fact i have my back turned to you) so just SHUT THE **** UP.

That being said i feel i should point out why i love the game as well (and yes i actually do love Skyrim)

It just looks good. I don't mean just from the technical point of view but the overall art direction. HUGE improvement over Oblivion.
Main quest is really interesting.
Combat is much improved and actually fun this time around, again huge improvement over Oblivion.
World and setting are really great and fun to explore, much much better than Obli....yeah you guessed it, i hate Oblivion :p
NPC faces don't give me nightmares anymore. (God i hate Oblivion)
I liked learning about all the things that happen in the past 200 years. The Dominion-Empire war, the Skyrim rebellion, destruction of Morrowind...fun stuff.
Those shouts really make you feel like a badass :)

But above all i like the way the skill system was streamlined and this is by far the biggest plus in my opinion. You have all the complexity of the previous games, without the unnecessary complications.

One feature I despise are giant spiders.

I'll live with it, but God I fucking hate them.
I don't have arachnophobia, I've never been bothered by any spider in real life or in any game, but the ones in Skyrim make me really, really uncomfortable. Especially when I do a finishing move and it gets right up in the screen. And dear lord, there's this one dungeon- I walked in a room, looked around because there was shit there, and then I realized spider sounds had been playing. And they sounded too close to be in a different room. Being genre savvy, I slowly looked up- two giant fucking spiders on the ceiling right above me.

I hate that game. But I love it.

Potions should have a cooldown, it unbalances the game. As one guy said, the only reason you should die is if you didn't pause the game fast enough, or you ran out of potions. DA:O had a similar problem, but at least it integrated in somewhat better.

Oh, and companions. I remember FO:NV. Boone was awesome. All the companions were. In Skyrim, I don't even use them as containers. They're annoying, clunky, depth-less, and just get in the way.

Level scaling and boring companions are my biggest issues besides crappy combat and surprisingly bad animations.

So far I like Skyrim a lot. I did one mission with a companion and I didn't like that at all. He was virtually no help, and actually screwed with my stealthy hit and run strategy, so that was very annoying. However, I don't think this was a regular companion situation, because it was mandatory and I couldn't tell him to go anywhere or carry any loot. I also stopped caring about him the moment I noticed that he couldn't die. So I agree with the OP that so far I don't think that's Skyrim's best element.

However, aside from the point in the game where companions are mandatory, I don't really hold it against the game. I kind of like the idea of being a lone, travelling hero. If I encounter an NPC I really care about, it might be nice if s/he was able to tag along. But so far the only NPCs that were potential companions were ones I just barely met.

I don't really see how having more companions available makes it worse though. If you don't like them, you can just stick to using none or one. I like the idea that there are a lot, and I hope that there'll be one that I like enough to take with me. If not, I will just have to settle for carrying less loot. I can live with that.

Naaaah. I fell off a really high cliff by accident once, and I'd pause the game to shuffle through my inventory every few seconds to see if I had something to save myself. I did not. It was a very slow death.

OT: I didn't want to become a Vampire. But here I am, stage 4 Vampire who has a 70,000+ bounty across the nine holds. LEAVE ME ALONE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DIE, DAMMIT.

Ever go into a dungeon, raid the shit out of its valuables, come up with your carrying capacity at something like 378/380, and then just as you're getting ready to fast travel to Whiterun to pawn off all that shit, a dragon lands, cockblocking your ass? And then you kill it, loot the sonofabitch, and FUCK, 498/380 and the next town or inn is MILES away over saber cat infested flatlands?

That's all the time. I swear to God, the dragons are watching my carrying capacity and attacking just as I'm getting ready to unload. Just for spite's sake.

I dislike the setup and pacing of the story, it's literally:

1. Escape Helgen
2. Meet me in Riverwood
3. Go to Whiterun
4. You're a Wizard, Harry Dragonborn
5. SAFE TEH WURLD

It's too quick, and it feels weird to even consider roleplaying. I'm that awesome Dragonborn super hero you've been hearing about but the world can wait, I'ma raid this mine right here. In fact, fuck it; I like dragons. Fuck Talos, fuck Skyrim, fuck the voice I'm joining the Dark Brotherhood. The main storyline implies urgency, yet you can just leave the NPC in that inn waiting for you for years and then come back to it later. It's odd, I don't really want a time limit implemented (like Dead Rising for example), but I'd like them to slow it down a little. Practically every quest is "QUICK TO THE FUCKING CAVE OF TROGLODYTES, WE HAVE NO TIME" or "QUICK TO THE FUCKING DRAGON REST OF YO MOMMA, WE HAVE NO TIME". There is no in between.

More broadly speaking, I dislike storylines where you are the exception to everything. I'd rather take a more passive role in saving the world if anything, not be some super awesome breed of manly shouting and being the only person in the world that's capable of saving it.

Yeah, the companions are pretty much cardboard cutouts for the most part, but whatever - they aren't really a major part of the game. The way the only occasionally equip the items that you give them pisses me off, not to mention that they'll never use a bow that you give them. Their AI is ridiculously stupid at times as well, and I wouldn't say they have ever been as useful as companions are in Fallout 3 or New Vegas, for example.

I hate having to grind my Smithing for every character I have. The fact that the only realistic way of levelling that skill is to just grind the same item over and over again is annoying, the same goes for Enchantment. I think eventually I'm just going to use console commands to set both skills to 100 and get all of the perks because seriously, it's not fun.

Speaking of perks, some perks should just have been part of the game. Like some of them in the "Speech" tree. Merchants have a pitiful amount of gold usually, and you should be able to invest in them whether you have the perk or not.

I really hate how NPC's don't seem to respond to your choices/current status at all. People keep on referring to me as the new member of the Companions when I've been the Harbinger for months (In-game) now. Beating the main quest nets you a few more generic lines of dialogue from random guard NPCs, and some NPCs still talk like Alduin is still roaming around and Skyrim is still in danger.

Or how bout the fact that assassinating the Emperor does not have any major changes/reprecussions at all? It was a damn cool scene and ending to the questline, but it is let down by the fact that nothing changes from it.

In fact, the game doesn't really react to your choices at all. Dragons are just as common (If not moreso) after the main quest is finished than they are before. Sure, I get that the dragons aren't wiped out and it'd be annoying if they stopped appearing after the main quest, but some acknowledgement that things have changed would be nice.

I still really like this game, but it really grates on my nerves at times. That's not considering all of the additional bugginess to it. (Don't get me wrong, I've played and loved some buggy games before, New Vegas being one of them. It's just that in Skyrim, I've had to fix quite a few broken quests through console commands which is something I've never had to do before.)

Mostly cause of repetitive uninspiring quests.
Take quest, follow the marker, kill whatever you have to kill, loot and go back.
Aside from the main quest and a couple of Daedric quests all the others are very dull.

Could you not of said, "Unimaginative Quests" rather than comparing it to an ENTIRELY different game?

Plus, I've found most SIDE-QUESTS to be quite imaginative and good fun, only the miscellaneous quests are "Go here and KILL!"

Your comment made me laugh, I. ...Actually, that's another thing. What the hell is with the fall damage? It goes from no damage to fatal really quickly, and that fatal range is way too small.

Though, your check active effects thing is still a problem. That's absurdly clunky for something such as the alteration armour bonus.
