So apparently that wasn't Link in the LoZ Wii U E3 trailer. This a quote from the games producer ?No one explicitly said that that was Link.? The link is below for the rest

So you know what that means CRAZY INTERNET CONSPIRACY TIME!

A Zelda game in which we actually play as Zelda would be pretty great, and that's looking to be a possibility.

The things that typed me off in regards to this Zelda game being different? The Hero was using a bow, and that there were Gerudo designs to the outfit. Particularly the arm coverings and the cloak. The character model is too androgynous for me to make out if it's a male or female character.

In regards to the bow - Whenever we saw a Zelda trailer/intro, it always involved Link using his mainstay weapon, the sword. Rarely, if ever, did we see him use other weapons.

In regards to the clothing - Intro/trailers rarely showed Link in clothing other than his Green Tunic standard, the only main one I remember where a different outfit was shown was the Wind Waker one. And if you look at the bracers of the past Links to this current Hero, the bracers all had a standard flat brown leather look if he wore them at all.

I'm so glad we have this to look forward to, rather than just Hyrule Warriors. I was (briefly) worried.

Looks a bit techy for Zelda, but that's not a bad thing.

he's probably just trolling; I WOULD say that Link firing the bow with his right hand is a bit odd....but actually in Japanese archery you're ALWAYS supposed to use your right hand regardless of dominant appendage.

I'm guessing this is another playable character in the game, alongside link. Two different characters, two different primary ways of fighting, each with their own types of equipment. It could work. Or it could be Link with a different wardrobe. I'm looking forward to some changes.

I'm more interested in where this game sits on the timeline. The character does appear to be wearing clothing similar to the starter clothing in Wind Waker, so perhaps after that game's sequels...

What with Zelda in Hyrule Warriors being shown using the bow in her character reveal and some footage I've seen, I would have agreed with you. But alas, Aonume announced that the character is Link and he was shocked that there were so many rumors flying about that the character wasn't, and how his earlier quote was taken. Which I kinda understand, translation isn't really the best to notice jokes.

Would have definitely enjoyed it as a female Link. I am curious about the more Magi-tech arrows and monster though.

I wasn't even thinking about the character not being Link....
I thought the person in the trailer looked like a Link, nothing strange there. Of course the clothing was a bit different. But so was the clothing in Wind Waker and Skyward Sword too before he got the green hero of time tunic to go with his hero of destiny story.

Well sure, just like how in Wind Waker you are never explicitly called Link, because Link's the Hero of Time and this new guy is the Hero of Winds who just happens to be dressed the same way as Link and ends up possessing the Triforce of Courage and uses the same weapons as the Hero of Time.
Believe me, I'm all for having several lineages of the Hero, but when there's no tangible difference between them other than possible weapon usage to me looking at this it just strikes me as a tactic to drum up discussion about the new Zelda.
Either that or a mistranslation, those happen a lot too.

Please, show me where you found this information, as I am a lazy sod trapped within college at the moment. Can't be too hard to copy/paste a link anyway, right? ;P

Besides...

'"No one explicitly said that that was Link."

Eiji Aonuma told me when I asked him about Link?s ? or whomever it is ? new appearance during an interview at Nintendo?s E3 booth. He said this with a smile and a laugh.'[footnote]http://venturebeat.com/2014/06/10/zelda-creator-teases-that-we-didnt-see-link-in-wii-u-trailer/[/footnote]

A smile and a laugh? Aonuma trolling confirmed. Apparently he likes to do this, so be wary fellow 'pists. We'll see once more information comes anyway, and I'm patient enough to wait for that.

He said it wasn't link in the twilight princess trailer. Also, if it's a female Link then that would seem like kind of a slap in the face to Zelda.

Other than the master sword, the bow has always been Links most iconic weapon. So him having a bow would not be different in the least. Granted Zelda uses the bow quite often as well.

It's true that the character shown is Link. Since the person you quoted didn't give a source, I'll do it: http://mmgn.com/wiiu/news--that-was-link-in-zelda-wii-u-trailer-aonuma

Aonuma admits it was a joke that got taken a bit further than he intended. Essentially he was being coy in saying he never said it was Link, but didn't say it wasn't Link either.

As for everyone saying Link looks feminine, he also said don't get too hung up on the appearance and to remember that Link is supposed to be your gateway to the world over anything else.

OT: Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but it is indeed Link. See the link I posted to get more details. I'm a bit sad, because the way Aonuma said it made me really think it wasn't Link as well. Personally I was hoping for the theory that kept cropping up that it was the child of Link and Zelda exploring the new Hyrule after Skyward Sword. But alas, it should still be a great game either way.

Im far more interested in the setting and level of technology on display in the trailer, i mean thats clearly some kind of spider tank that shoots lazers, is Legend of zelda finaly leaving the medieval times it seems to be constantly stuck in?

Personaly i always wanted to see hyrule during a technological renaissance, or perhaps even an industrial setting, infact im sure i made some post to that effect along time ago on this site.

Back to topic at hand though, It would have been nice to play in the zeldaverse as a non established character for once, maybe somone who has there own adventures and problems while link is out saving the world in the background. Just a crazy idea i know but still.

You mean a female character in a videogame... without boobs?! *pssh*

Seriously, I don't understand why people are so hung up over the hair style and lighting making a male character look slightly more feminine than usual. Are these fans of the series so desperate for change?

There's a 99% chance that it IS Link, but it's still fun to theorize.

Looking at the character design, he's a mesh between the 3 main characters.

Link's face in this iteration has the soft features that Zelda's face usually has. He's also wielding a bow, which is generally linked to Zelda. Zelda is known in the LoZ universe as being an adept bow user. She's able to fire light arrows and even helps Link at several points by using a bow.

People tend to ignore the point that the Link in the trailer IS wearing Link's clothing, he's just not wearing a tunic. The shirt that he's wearing is very similar to the pyjamas worn by Link in Wind Waker.

The bracers which everyone point at as being Ganon's could just be an item. It's not uncommon for Link to wear power infused clothing at times, just look at the iron boots, feather boots, different tunics or even the power bracelet. The theory which I think is the most fun is that the bracers he's wearing WERE ganon's bracers, but are infused with his strength, considering that Ganon did have the triforce of power during Ocarina of Time.

I doubt any of the design choices of the new Link mean anything, but I like to think that they took parts of the 3 Triforce owners and added them to the new Link. You never know, in this iteration, Link could get the entire Triforce again.
dude, it's Link, Aonuma was trolling; he was basically saying "How could it NOT be Link? Ya gotta show Link during a ZELDA trailer." He does have some interesting aspects, such as being right-handed as opposed to left-handed, having longer ears, being WAAAAAAAAY prettier and wearing Link's WW pajamas, but the man himself just confirmed it's Link and that it's STILL a male Link. They're probably just taking bits and pieces from different sources because it's what Nintendo DOES.
