The level 'Wetwork' from the MW2 Special Ops mission bordered on becoming this, but 'Mile High Club' for the first MW had me fully believing it just was not possible... until I beat it... In fact, WaW on Vet also seemed impossible...

Strange, they're all Call of Duty's...
If I'm thinking of the correct level (Don't play CoD games so I'm unsure); my room mate spent about 5 hours trying to complete 'Mile High Club' on Veteran. He was in a plane and ate dirt pretty hard. So I assume we are talking about the same thing.

A guy comes out of the toilet at the very start and just before the stairs a hole is blasted in the side of the plane, right before the stairs
Correct level, no?

tetris on facebook is the most evil game ever. it's designed so that when you beat a friends high score you feel compelled to brag about it, bringing more players to the fold. I am currently in a never ending competition with 9 people, mindlessly aiming for that number one spot.

Mass Effect 2: The Collector ship on Insanity. Right when the first 3 platforms of enemies come down--Harbinger on the middle one, Collectors on the left, and a Scion on the right. No one area of cover protects you from all 3 sides at once.

I honestly believe that without the Cain, that part is truly impossible.

We have all come across that moment in a game, where no matter how hard we try, we just keep dying/losing over....and over...and over, until we literally think that it is nigh impossible to finish said section. This can be an enemy, a level, one small area of a level or even a boss.

What instances of this have you come across?

For me, lately I re-acquired one of the Guilty Gear XX games, and I realized why I think I traded it in, in the first place: Beating I-No in arcade mode. There are no words to describe how infuriating this fight is, and I can't seem to beat her on any difficulty. I know how to avoid her "Megalomania" special attack, but she still hands my ass to me on a silver platter.
Naruto rise of a Nija, fighting Zabuxa, and also The Bouncer. That game handed my arse to me so many times as a kid (though I did finish it, multiple times til the bosses were no lnoger an issue). Now as an adult i have trouble beating Echidna the first time and can't be bothered to play it anymore. It really was quite an awful game.

Had it with the Fushia gym in Pokémon Yellow. Couldn't beat the tosser's...Venomoth, I believe. Threw the game away in disgust and didn't touch it for months. A while later, I beat the guy.

Man, that was neat.
Heh, I'm heading on over to that Gym soon (yes I'm replaying Pokémon Yellow, how cool am I)

Although the most infuriating fight had to be Lorelei of the Elite Four. Her ice team raped me more times than I'd care to mention......
You just admitted you are still playing Pokémon Yellow. You are now officially more manly than the internet.

And Ice, I never have problems with Ice. Always have one high-level fire with you, and they'll burn before you.

Or melt. Either way goes.
What an odd coincidence, I'm replaying Blue! Still shows me that the Gameboy SP is the best incarnation of Gameboy. Ever.

Some of the dark aeons in Final fantasy - it shocks me that people can actually get through those battles!
Also, the second revenant I came across in Dragon age. I just kept dying and dying, so I reloaded and avoided it.
You want to know a trick for kicking the shit out of any boss in FFX? Go to Oaka and get a tetra ring and two other tetra armors for your favorite characters get their agility, strength and defenses to 255, then put Break Hp limit, Break MP limit, Auto-Protect, and Auto-Shell on the armor

Start the fight caste Hastega on your first turn then spam Quick Hit till Yuna gets to her final turn before it's the bosses, have her summon any Aeon (Magus Sisters preferably because you can sometimes get off a few Passado before they die) the Aeon dieing will use the bosses turn so you get another 15-20 Q$uick Hits before you have to summon again

since I don't own the PAL version the hardest fight I have is Nemesis my characters only took one hit in the fight because he counters Overdrives with Ultima (it was only a meager 1000 damage any way)

Impossible things in games I've played? let's see, let's see hrmm one time in Bioshock I got an impossible to complete hack once it was seriously impossible to work around all the alarms and short circuits

wayyyyy back in the day while I was playing Soul Bringer the first boss was a serious bastard to kill, I spent weeks trying to bring down Bishop Morton

Fucker had a line of traps going to him, 6 zombie body guards, a high level spirit dagger spell (shoots out a line of like 10 daggers that all do 20-30 damage which fucks your ass up at level 10), and a staff enchanted with Heal and Fireball (both of which are in accessible till mid game) but man when I beat that fucker and got that staff I raped every thing that I saw take that you undead fuckers that's what you get for killing me so much

Okay, I'm embarrassed to admit it, and I always knew I'd beat him (even if it took several tries), but... Seth in Street Fighter IV. Cheap! A character who can execute a throw instantly after a teleport and whose basic attacks hit four times? Beating him with C. Viper probably cost me a year off the life of my teeth from sheer grinding.

Some of the games that have almost lead to me pulling chunks of hair out of my head are : Ikaruga for the DC. Love it, bloody hard though. Ninja Gaiden on XB: I finished it, but then they brought out some DLC for it that was bloody hard. Devil May Cry 3.. yes I died. No I don't want to play on easy...

Gotta say I'm surprised to see the final boss of Borderlands mentioned... but maybe I was just way high level when I got to the dude. Anyway, the bosses of Lost Odyssey seem to thrive on being a pain in the ass. Also, I believe the final part against the Golden Colossus in God of War 2 gave me a run for my money. Ah and I've never beaten God of War 1. Not because I couldn't defeat Ares... but because the CD is messed up and the game freezes during the final phase of his fight.

an old PS1 Game Called Spec Ops: Stealth patrol i dint make it past the first level
omfg dont even get me started...

Just reading the name of that game brings back memories of the first level that make me want to break the nearest object. I dont think theres even a second level. The first is impossible so the makers didnt make anything after it. Everyone that bought that game got screwed.

Probably Mile High Club in CoD4 (which I finally beat) or Green Grass and High Tides on Expert Guitar in Rock Band (which I eventually beat and, consequently, never played again). Seriously, had to take a little break from gaming after I finally got past those two milestones.

Final Fantasy 3, THE FREAKING CRYSTAL TOWER! Hate that place.

Okami (Wii), Yami in the start when he TAKES AWAY ALL YOUR CELESTIAL POWERS! I never knew that you still could kick when you were a normal wolf but the rest of the fight was also a real pain.

Mile High Club on Vet', Snatch'n'Grab (which I've since beaten), Fuckin' Favela on vet' which I only conquered through grit and gnashing of teeth, Oh yeah, and the ENTIRE GAME of Vegas 2 on Hard. FML that shit is hard.

EDIT: I also found the final stand of All Ghillied Up waiting for the chopper to arrive (vet of course) an absolute nightmare. I was stuck on that bit for a good 3 weeks.

The final boss in Borderlands. It took me a while to figure out I needed to use something that could fire for a long time.
That game can be quite unbalanced. I finished every quest, so I was way too powerful for that boss. Killed it with ease. 'Tis still a damn fine game.
Embarassingly enough, I used to get stuck on pokemon a lot. Now, Advance Wars DS. Lots of places.

I tried playing the Revenge of the Sith game for the Xbox and let me tell you, I got sick of and finally stopped playing the game after my millionth time trying to kill Count Dooku.
There wasn't enough else keeping me interested and no matter what I did, he kept killing me so finally I stopped playing, gave it to a friend and have never played it since.
