The question was under 18 year olds.
17 is the legal age of concent in Missouri. Plus Beiber get MILF trim all the time according to the paternity suits being filed against him.

am i not watching this properly, who here is fantasizing about justin beiber? the alien daughter mentions him in a jokingly insulting way and thats it. really dont know what your taking offense with here.
Justin Beiber's 17 years old...the alien mother, who we can presume is aged 30-50, says "mmmm Bieber", implying sexual lust.

Now if the farther had lusted after a 17 year old girl, that would have been regarded as inappropriate, which is the OP's point- why the hypocrisy?

I'll just say that society has certain gender expectations, like for instance how men are expected to work, and women have the choice to work or be a housewife and won't be looked down upon for either. Men are expected to be leaders, women are seen as more maternal and caring, men are seen as potentially violent but also brave, women are seen as being potentially bitchy etc...

As far as i'm concerned these views are shaped by a complex interaction of nature and nurture psychological factors- gender expectations do change over time of course, because gender expectations are in part a social construct, but because there's a nature element there as well- there will always be gender expectations in some form or another.

He said "Under 18."

You know, illegal in a lot of jurisdictions.

Now this, I understand and agree with what you are saying, society does have certain expectations of each gender. Which is why these big things for womens rights, and getting paid the same as men annoys me, (not that I disagree with them being equal) but when they can campaign about equality, yet still expect men to act chivalrous, and pay for things, and allow ourselves to be hit without retaliation. Again, I don't condone violence to women, but when they can campaign all the time about how both genders should be equal, then throw up double standards everywhere, it irks me.

It's a similar situation with racism in the UK. (not sure how it is elsewhere) If a white man was to say that white people are better, he would be instantly shot down for racism. If a black man was to claim he was part of the superior race, then he would be praised for having racial pride.

We are part of a hypocritical country and it cannot be helped, minorities, and those seen as having less power, will fight valiantly for equality, yet still feel as though they can be protected by certain double standards.

Anyway, rant over..

They do it in tv shows all the time. I don't think women lusting for much younger men is as frowned upon as the other way around. Many boys seem to have no complaints, does anyone recall that teacher that molested that student she went to jail and when she finally got out they ended up getting married?

America itself has quite a large problem with sexualizing their minors. Girls are wearing these tiny little outfits, Justin Biever (or however you spell it) has a few questionable scenes in his videos as well as his posters. And then once again I bring up television. Then we can go even further and talk about naughty school girls. The list goes on and on.

In the end no one can prosecute you for any questionable inactions. This includes thoughts, feelings, literature, drawings, etc. So one could say a 35 year old woman lusting over a 16 year old boy while may be frown upon, isn't by itself illegal. And as for sex I repeat again many boys don't seem to complain as long as it was consential. Many more boys are raped than what statistics show because of that or because they are afraid they will be ridiculed.

Keira Knightley was 17 in POTC and most men didn't go see that for Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom.
Probably true, but but it's a false equivalentcy as middle aged men would not have been able to be open about it and would not have been featured in a shops Xmas advert going 'mmmm Kira...'. It would never happen as people would find it unacceptable. That's double standards.

Firstly, I interpreted that advert as that... woman... liking his music. Which is just as horrible but still.

Anyway, in the UK the consenting age is 16. And anyway, you can fantasize all you want about anything as long as you don't do anything illegal, but as others said us Men get a lot of hate for fantasizing.

Yes, there are double standards, this is nothing new.

When a guy has a lot of girls he's cool.
When a girl has a lot of guys she's a slut.

When a guy thinks about younger girls, he's a paedophile
When a woman thinks about younger men, it's niiice

When 2 males kiss it's vile
When 2 girls kiss it's freaking hot

disclaimer, these are general opinions and do not reflect my own.

No it's wrong. It would be like "burn him to the stake" if it was an older man wanting a minor. So, women always wanted equal treatment,so it's going to have to be the same.

Personally, I'd mock both. The idea of a superior "race" is outdated and needs to be weeded out of our consciousness.

In the US, we tend to have less actual cases of this and more fake cases made up by our right-wing pundits, who misattribute a struggle for equality as a struggle for superiority.

We don't know what the alien's lifespan is. In alien years Bieber could be in his early thirties, bad taste aside.

Personally I find the cross species attraction far more disturbing, but then again I banged Liara AND Tali in Mass Effect so who am I to judge?
And who HASN'T had a drunken one-nighter with a Pikachu or two?

Men fantasizing about 18 year old girls if quite acceptable. Expected even. For a 17 year old, its slightly more of a grey area. Implications of actually having sex or viewing pornography is frowned upon, but general acknowledgement of having a hotness that makes them sexually desirable is okay. It's look but not touch. For a female, implications of having sex with a mature though not Adult boy are more acceptable, though with the occasional schoolteacher/student scandal, any lower then 17 and it is unacceptable again. There is a disparity, but it is a rather small one, and one that I think is acceptable given the biological differences between males and females.

Evolutionarily, the girl has control over who she has sex with, and it is the male that has to impress the female. So a female would fantasize over a male trying to win her over by his own free will. A Male would fantasize about seducing an impressionable young girl. That is less acceptable. Yeah, its not exactly fair, but it's not the end of the world. Were talking about a a pretty narrow window for a double standard, and its not even a window into actual sexual behavior.

Yes, but not in the relevant ones. It would be a little creepy her having a toyboy that young, but not illegal.

Anyway, has no-one mentioned the fact that the "middle aged woman" in question is a puppet of an alien made out of blue fucking felt?? It's a stupid throwaway gag, and with the lack of any context or backstory we don't know if "she" (quotes because 1. alien biology, silly to apply our own assumptions of what that voice and title means in terms of their genders, 2. ITS A PUPPET) is 40 years old, 400, or 4. Which would, legally speaking, make Bieber the paedo if the two of them got together.

I'm more bothered by the "Father" alien having a thing for Eggnog. Like, EWW.
(Maybe the point that the advertisers are trying to drive home is that aliens are weird)

Perhaps OP's point is rather that our first reaction to a middle-aged woman being attracted to an 18-year old boy isn't, "Filthy pervert! You should be thrown in jail for the rest of your life!", which would be a typical response if the gender roles were reversed.

Personally, I've given up on complaining about double standards.

Relevant to who? I replied to someone who specifically said they were legal in the STATES. Seems pretty relevant to point out that he's operating under a false assumption.

This sounds to like like a Western World Problem. You want to ogle young girls without catching flak, move to Japan.

You're having a totally different argument with somebody who very clearly misread the original post.
