To add to the OP...
No need to argue theology. Perhaps ask what afterlife appeals to people, rather than what they necessarily believe in?

Personally, though, that's a matter that cannot be explained in words, but I've always liked the ...Inuit? I think its from...
Well, the idea that a third of the soul gets reincarnated, a third goes to the afterlife in the stars, and the rest returns to the earth.

Based on what I've read about near death experiences, the afterlife appears to be a vivid countryside-like area where people stay until they reincarnate, so I'm inclined to think it's like that.

The after life is what each one makes it, for me a beautiful universe filled with endless things to explore and do. Trillions of galaxies to find, each with trillions of stars, with billions of planets to explore. All with their own unique aspects. What will I discover this time? An ancient civilization? A astronomical phenomenon? Who knows but it awaits for me in the after life.

I don't know. I reason that no-one, even those with near-death experiences, can know about the other side of death. Perhaps you do stop existing, but it's comforting to think that there's something nice on the other side.

EDIT: Whoops, mildly ninja'd.

I really don't understand people's propensity towards believing that having something supernatural beyond our world is comforting? I mean, by all means believe whatever you wish, but from what I can see, people use it as some kind of get out clause, desperately clinging onto the belief that there's something beyond this life therefore we can just sit this one out and see what happens.

I am incapable of believing in one, despite the fact that I think it would be nice if I wasn't damned to an eternity of non-existence after a few short years alive.
This.

I would genuinely love if there was a magical place where I went to live after I die for ever and ever and eat ice cream sandwiches all day long!

But... I just cant believe in something like that!

Like most people here I would love it if there was something out there but I doubt it.

No. (Man I'm gonna be pissed if it turns out I'm wrong and end up in hell) Actually, it would be cool if the after-life was like Gmod, but like I said, I doubt the after-life even exists.

I don't believe there is an afterlife. "Consciousness" and "sentience" are just neural processes, electrical impulses in the brain, even if we do not currently understand how they work. When we die, they wink out, and that's th

However, if there WAS an afterlife, I'd like to believe that it shapes itself to what the..... heck, let's call it "user" expects from it. If you believe you're going to Hell, you'll end up in Hell, if you believe in (or want) an afterlife of, say, endless rolling meadows with liquorice sheep you'll end up there. And the whole thing changes with what you think or expect (e.g. if you're getting used to the torture you'll suddenly be tortured a lot worse, or if you can't stand the taste of liquorice anymore the sheep will be replaced by chocolate cows). But I wouldn't want to spend an eternity there, there should be an "exit" button, to finally, definitively end your existence.

But as I said, that's what I'd like. Not what I belie

Welcome to the escapist. I would advise against topics that are closely related to religion because then you get the atheist jerks who tell you to prove everything and the religious nuts telling all the atheist jerks to F**k themselves . You have been warned. My advice is keep it video game related.

And those are the people who completely missed the point of their religion. There are very few belief systems in which kindness, compassion, and happiness are not rewarded.

They also don't understand the essence of those concepts.

I don't think there is one but I go with Socrates in saying that it's impossible to know. Oblivion, blessing or curse, no-one can tell.

I'll just say this quickly because I disapprove of religious threads: I am a Catholic and I believe in my religion's afterlife. The end.
