Yeah, pretty much this.

But the moderation here has been getting much stricter of late, I've noticed.
There are a ridiculous amount of people on probation/suspended at the moment.
It's been the same for the last 4 years. It may seem like it's getting harsher because Yahtzee attracts a larger viewership; therefore, more banned idiots.

I LOVE THE MODERATORS!!
[sub]*nervous chuckle*[/sub]
OH PLEASE DONT END ME!!
joking! the moderators are really fair, if harsh. i love it here cuz' i notice that the intelligence of most comments are higher then those of some other places, and when people are banned/suspended/probated(is that right? probated?)its not without good reason.

they deliberately choose to avoid that and avoid the ToS just to be first to post.
Oh, I see! Like Shouting "FIRST!" but more... subtle?
Read the ToS before you you joke about this. It's stated in there, not that you're not supposed to write first and leave it at that, but well, the rules are pretty clear.
Also since you cut up my quote I can't be sure I mentioned this:

The people who get suspended are those who comment before they could possibly have watched the video.

Hope that clears everything up.
If you still are confused, just admit it it. You are both stupid and you just clicked I agree without reading any of it.

I got the quote notification, but I wasn't entirely sure what you were saying.
Do you mind explaining?

I was using your quote because I wasn't sure if I had said the same thing in my original post. Basically what I am saying is that you make a valid point about why those who do these get punished for it. Not disagreeing with you, simply pulling out the closest quote that explained why.

The mods do good on banning idiots and people who do things "Because it had to be done" like posting first or doing nothing but posting image macros and shit like that.
Now if only we could find a way to ban pretentious pseudo-intellectuals...
Ah no, they're impossible to root out. Mind you, considering how kindly you seem to view your own intelligence, are you sure you're not one of them?

They have been really hard on people lately. But I usually get banned from plenty of forums, and it's REALLY hard to get banned here, trust me.

As it has been said, the people who post those messages could not have possible watched the video to form an opinion on it.

If the video is posted at 11:00 and is 7 mins long, then how could someone post at 11:03 saying how great the video is.
Pretty much that.

Even if the video is three minutes, if you post in 2 minutes, there's still no possible why you could have watched everything.

You're making some unfair assumptions about what I think about myself and my brilliance, or lack thereof : (.
Yeah, I guess I am being a bit unfair. It's just that speaking of pseudo-intellectuals in a disdainful manner is usually done by people who consider themselves to be "proper intellectuals" (I'd love to see someone define that), so I made an incorrect assumption and decided to deflate your ego a little. Turns out it wasn't necessary. Sorry about that. :S

I've not been a member for very long, but I find that the strict regulations put in place actually work. It's quite easy actually to stay out of trouble, though it does mean you can't say what's really on your mind sometimes... Hey! Just like in real life =D.

Having to deal with people you contribute nothing to the discussion can be a pain in the ass and useless.
The report button does make things easy though.

Usually is someone gets suspended its because they have a long record of useless posts and the Mods have finally had enough of the person being reported by other users.

I haven't been hit by mod wrath yet but I also try to put at least half a brain-cell in my comments at all times.
Maybe thought is like Mod-Off; it keeps you safe?

I hate to say it, but we just have learned to expect getting punished for silly things. As a matter of fact, you can call us "The Masochists of the Internet." Okay, that may be a little too extreme, but what I am trying to say is that the mods are working hard to keep a clean site, and sometimes they might go just a tad overboard. Just watch what you say and where you step and you will be okay.

Oh, and welcome The Escapist.

I've often wondered what the thrill is in getting a first post?

I see these guys posting and getting suspended over and over, plotting ways to be first without being detected etc. There must be some reason but for the life of me I can't imagine what point is.

I have this mental image of a secret society of twelve year old nerds with a high score table of first forum posts lead by the revered, mysterious ancient (14 yrs old) "Early Bird" who has the highest tally of verified firsts ever recorded.

But then again I am given to whimsical flights of fantasy :p

The main difference would be a "proper intellectual" is usually open to being wrong if they can be proven wrong, and they will usually have sources and be willing to cite them should the need be for them in a proper debate. A pseudo intellectual is often ignorant on the subject matter and things surrounding it but imagines they knew more about it then even professionals do.
As for me, I don't consider myself in either category. I know some things but I'm wrong on a lot of things too and if someone can actually prove me wrong I'm glad to be because it means I'm given a chance to learn the truth on the matter rather then whatever incorrect knowledge I had on it.
Well, that seems like a very intelligent way of doing things, to be honest. It takes a greater degree of reason and maturity to admit to being wrong than to hysterically declare that you're right and the other person's wrong. Thanks for clearing up the definition too, by the way. Your original comment makes a bit more sense to me now. Banning the pseudo-intellectual elitists would be a bit of a step forward.
