A word of warning, alot of people have the late game tanks russian and german tanks, like IS-7 or Maus, so you might just end up in a fight like this :

This was of course in older versions, and they patched it, so you probably won't.But stranger things have happened.
The Russians know how to build shit so it doesn't break. First the AK, then invinci-tank. Jesus.
actually russian tanks are one of the worst tanks ever built. Even in World War II Russian tanks wouldn't stand much of a chance against a Panther or a King Tiger. Technically the MAUS shouldn't be in World of Tanks as it was never IN service. Only 2 were ever built and 1 was captured by russians and integrated into their tanks schematics. However, the tanks produced even after the MAUS's capture were still mediocre compared to the rest of the world.
In a book I read recently, written by a Sven Hassel who fought in all kinds of german tanks, he said that german technical superiority was a myth, and that stuff like the Panther and other tanks, altough brilliant on paper, were rushed in production before being properly tested. Thus they would break down or even catch on fire.

I also read that up until the tiger and panther tanks, they had very little to match against the russian t34's in particular.

So all and all, I think you could give it another thought.

You only need to wait like.... a week, then you can buy the matilda tank with your gold.

They are divided into these classes ( I found out that vehicles differ so much you can even divide them into subclasses)

Tanks (light,medium,heavy)
Tank Destroyers (the tank hunters, long range guns or small stealthy hunters that are hardest to spot in bushes)
SPG (artillery)

are these the tank hunters you were thinking of?

only self propelled guns (artillery), no towed guns or anything like that

*sorry for double post*

ah excellent from the FAQ i got the impression that it was only German, Russian and American tanks that had been implemented so far.

So how is this game tactically then is there a bonus to attacking certain tanks from behind where their armour is weaker or similar?

Imagine playing a tank simulator game, only without the crappy parts.

Tanks have hit boxes. If you want to stop a tank, you can shoot it in the tracks and they will break, etc.Sides and rear are the prefered angles. You get the ideea.

If you load High explosive ammo you have more chance of damagin a module (turret, vizor, gun ,track , engine, etc.), and it does more damage than armor piercing (but it almost never penetrates to do full damage).

people shoot HE as a last resort, because it will damage no matter the armor
but they also shoot HE when target is very light armored (light tanks, spgs)

if you load Armor piercing ammo you have more chance of penetrating enemy armor, and usually this is the most used (except for a few high high damage one shot kill guns)

3 British tanks are included as premium tanks in the russian tree (tanks that russians actually received as help in ww2 or something), so they have red stars on the turrets

Churchill,Valentine, Matilda ( people never use any of these, but I love the churchill )

there will be a british line

[HEADING=3] Premium tanks are not in any way overpowered, not by a long shot [/HEADING], this is a thing that will keep people playing this game.

Anyone know if this game is out of Closed Beta yet or when it's going to be open beta? It looks really good, but I've been hearing of some balance issues.

The KT was an absolutely awful tank. They could only produce a few hundred of them, they consumed more fuel than the germans had, they broke down because they were overengineered. Were you unfortunate enough to encounter one working, it was most certainly a fearsome machine. However, the Soviets had reliable powerful tanks in the form of the IS-1 and the IS-2 that could go toe-to-toe with a KT, to say nothing of the maligned, forgotten self-propelled guns like the ISU-152, which outgunned even a Maus (a Maus has a 128mm cannon, an ISU-152 has a 152mm cannon). The Panther was a fantastic tank in almost every way, but it was ultimately more flashy than the germans could afford to sustain with their meagre resources when it went into full production. If you want to go for 'the worst tanks ever built' then take a look at the American Sherman and and the British Churchill. Sure I'm exaggerating when I call them 'the worst' when they're nowhere near so bad, but compared to the 'average tank' of the german and soviet forces they're woefully underpowered, with the Churchill being especially impractically designed. (the drivers viewport is between, but not above the two outstretched treads, rendering even LESS visibility than the average tank offered, and in the desert? Well, I hope you enjoy seeing dirt - which is where they were first deployed, in North Africa, for relevance.

Not to mention the fact that even if your tanks are superior, if you can only produce one Panzer IV for every six T-34s the Russians produce then you're in trouble anyway. The T-34's sloped armour was groundbreaking at the time, it turned what was basically a death trap in tank combat into a tank that could be light on armour but also shrug off a lot of enemy fire. The Germans just went for bigger and bigger tanks with more armour and firepower, the Russians usually went for smarter design and mass production as a result.

German tanks were still far superior to American Shermans (especially early on in the war) and British Churchills (which were, in my opinion, some of the worse designed main battle tanks in all of World War 2, right after the majority of Japanese and Italian tanks).

I think I'll skip this. I didn't like CS and I can't see myself liking this.
If my comparing it to CS put you off you should know, only the game mode that's available now its similar to a cs game

The ideea of the game is actually choosing what kind of vehicle you are going to choose to fight with and customizing every piece and choosing even the ammount of ammo you into battle with (yes it counts for weight and an unfilled ammo rack has less chance to detonate your tank)

it's not "biggest tank wins", you can be a scout for artillery, hunting enemy spg's while dodging incoming fire, or ambushing enemy tanks in the woods

it's also great teamplay and epic battles, 30 players every game right now, 60 in the future I think

This next video made me want to have drifting in the game, imagine turning 180 degrees and blasting an enemy into smithereens.
