I've always hated those Anti-Religion folks on XBL (I'm Agnostic, for the record.) mainly becuase they act like bigger douchbags then the people who "Belive in that guy who doesen't exist."

OT: Possibly the reason they do this is becuase they're sheep, and since so many people already hate religion for no reasone other then "it's ghey" they don't want to be left out of the herd, so simply hate it for no other reasone too.

This isin't to say that people who hate religion hate it for no reasone, i'm just saying that there's people out there who are two ignorant to come up witha valid opinion, so they just say it's "ghey".

Stupid people are dumb.

Most anti-religion people blame religions for hating free thought. Then they go around calling people idiots for believing in religions. I'm an atheist, and I think the anti-religion atheists are just annoying.
Like Richard Dawkins?
OT: Yeah, those guys piss me off. They're the bad atheists who give us good atheists a bad name.

Yeah... I'm going to say trolling. Of course the deeper issue is that they are uncomfortable with their own beliefs and uncertainties (especially since many of them are adolescence and that's a very uncertain time) and they take it out by lashing out over the internet where they have the power of anonymity. It's easier to just call someone a troll and call it a day though.

I'm religious, but extremely easy-going about it. I don't mind discussing my religion with people who ask, but I don't ram it down people's throats, and I certainly don't find it a big deal to be around atheists etc.

Anti-religion, in my opinion, has become all the things that the anti-religious types slander religious people for and practically a religion in its own right. They bold-facedly claim their point of view MUST be the only one, and will bring up their disbelief at every available moment- they won't just let sleeping dogs lie and coexist with religious people, or accept that they have no better idea what happens when you die than anyone else.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that anti-religious people seem to have no problem celebrating Christmas, or even more annoyingly, the people who call it "Winter Soltice" as though that also isn't a festival carrying religious significance.
I used to work with the most anti-religious woman, who every year, put a Christmas tree up in her office and sent out more Christmas cards than anyone else in the building.

Anti-religious people- you are EVERYTHING you hate about religion.

EXAMPLE:

Gamer 1: "Oh my God! These guys are really good!"

Anti-religion gamer: "theres no such thing as God you idiot."

Now I'm not sure why they do this unprevoked, but it also happens on the forums. Do they do it because they are self-conscious? Or maybe just to troll?
The solution here is not to take anything said on XBL seriously. Not that you should have been doing so beforehand, considering all the pre-pubescent teenagers squealing obscenities and homophobia over it.

To be fair here, Dawkins doesn't have a problem with people being privately religious. If you want a good example of an admitted "anti-theist" you should look at someone like Christopher Hitchens, who is an outright proponent of abolishing religion altogether.

Really, that's what pisses you off the most? That seems rather silly.

Firstly, Christmas Trees and Christmas cards have bugger all to do with god any more, Christmas is about family and presents to us atheists. As such it is not being hypocritical when we celebrate it.

Secondly Christmas is very clearly a hijacking of more traditional Yuletide and Solstice celebrations, it's got nothing to do with Jesus.

As for the OT I would call myself anti-religious, but that doesn't mean I go around trolling on xbox-live, it just means I think religion is lame. Also, in all my years on xbox live I've never actually come across this anyway.

It pisses me off because it seems hypocritical to me that someone who claims to be anti-religion celebrates what is ostensibly a religious holiday. I wouldn't mind if these people just enjoyed a few days off work and had some quality time with their family, but a lot of anti-religious people I know will actually get involved in the religious celebration of Christmas, such as attending carol services IN A CHURCH.

Christmas trees in particular do represent religious themes by the way, even if it's not the first thing that springs to people's minds.
Yeah, I can see that maybe I'm being a bit harsh about Christmas cards, but I think in the instance I'm talking about, for someone who thinks the Pope should be executed, sending cards with Nativity scenes on the front is a bit much.

I agree that Christmas is a hijacking of the Winter Solstice, but this is a festival that also hold religious significance to Pagans and Wickas. If the people who say they are "anti-religion" were without the prejudice they claim, they would understand that referring to the pagan holiday as being acceptable where Christmas is not is also hypocritical.

Perhaps its just the anti-religious people I know that are so hypocritical, but I don't like being told I can't believe something by people who pick up aspects of a religion when they want to be able to sing in a church choir.

Im anti-religion, but even i sometimes say something like "Oh My God..." when i see something that moves me. I dont think it has anything to do with religious feelings, just one of those expressions you use because other people around you still use those as well.

That being said, i think its lame to stomp on what someone believes. As long as people dont hassle me with their beliefs, i wont rip on them either. That's just common sense and courtesy to a fellow human being.

So the guy on XBL was a Troll who should learn to stfu, just like those Jehova's witness who where at my door a few weeks back!

Well ok but you didn't mention that, of course that's being silly and hypocritical, although not necessarily. For example I've been to Christmas eve services a few times but not to sing carols, or to celebrate the birth of Jesus, just to make my granddad happy in his last few years.

That's a strawman, who the hell thinks the pope should be executed

Do you know what hypocritical means? I'd really love it if you could explain in what way that is hypocritical?

Yet again, that seems to be a strawman, who has told you you can't believe something? You can believe whatever you want.

Everyone should keep their religious preferences (be them theist or atheist) to themselves unless it's a suitable place for discussion.

I won't discuss politics with a nurse in the ER and I won't discuss religion with a gamer on XBL.

My God, don't you all know that the 2 things one never discusses in a forum are religion and politics?

That being said, I can't help but have an innate response to trolls. Stupid of me, I know. I blame my father for trolling me since I was born. ;-;
That being said, I've gotten to the point of responding to trolls with finding an appropriate song, playing it over the voice chat, blocking the troll, and apologizing to the rest of the team for the interruption.

I think my best counter-troll action was to say, "You're just jealous 'cause you're not in bed with six cute college girls."

With religion trolls, however, I just point out how bad they are at trolling. Bad trolls can't handle being pointed out.
