When people say his power is him being really good with a bow, they're selling to short. Hawkeye's skill with a bow might as well be supernatural. He isn't just good, he's godlike. He can make arrows go anywhere and make shots that should be impossible. You kind of have to see it to believe it, but he's damn amazing.

Also, Hawkeye is incredibly intelligent and in peak physical condition, so he does have that going for him.

I thought Hawkeye was pretty badass, and I'd never heard of him before watching The Avengers. Although there is the question of how exactly he has that kind of deadly-aim without something fishy going on...

I demand a backstory! =P

[sub][sub]Also I may be in love with Iron Man now. ;_; but that's a story for another time.[/sub][/sub]

I was looking forward to seeing how Black Widow and Hawkeye were worked into it and I really wasn't disappointed, They both kicked so much ass and were big parts of the story without being a god, a guy in a suit of epic, a guy with super strength or a guy with...super..gamma...green strength... but yeah, I loved their characters. Awesome movie.

Regular Universe
The Celestials a bunch of space gods (more powerful than mythological gods, not as powerful as the One-Above-All or God) went around seeding the universe with life. On earth they granted early humans or even their evolutionary ancestors a superhuman potential. This is why if you get hit by gamma radiation or bitten by a radioactive spider or hit by cosmic rays, instead of dying it gives you powers. Mutants, Kill-Crops, the Neo, Children of the Vault are all evolutionary manifestations of this potential. While Captain America is "peak human" in the marvel universe, he super by our standards.

So some individuals can push themselves so much that they unlock this potential. MVP had it from just a perfect diet and training regime from a young age. Bullseye, Boomerang and other marksman can pull off feats of phenomenal accuracy.
so yeah he trains a lot.

Ultimate Origins
[He] was "enhanced" by an organization known as "The Program" increasing his marksmanship to an unheard of level of accuracy. Among these enhancements, the "Cones" and "Rods" in his eyes (The specialized cells responsible for normal human vision) had been manipulated. While a normal human has up to 150 million rod cells in their retinas, Hawkeye has closer to 400 million, vastly increasing his visual acuity. As for his cones, he has fewer than the average human causing him to see mostly in black and white, thus increasing visual contrast (of which, according to him, allows him to better see "what's real and what's not", such as seeing through a two way mirror). He also has enhanced muscles around his eyes increasing his ability for orb distortion which changes focal length.
so yeah he's a superhuman.

As someone who did not follow the Hawkeye comics, I was very pleased with the presentation of the character (particularly Jeremy Renner, who is always on his game).

Thanks, that was kinda interesting to read. =P

I think the second one is more believable, somehow. xD

Alright...I need to get this out. Like many people, I saw the Avengers movie and like many people I thought it was awesome. My main problem right now is the community reaction to the characters. Yes, Ironman, Captain America, The Hulk and Thor are all the main focal points, Hawkeye and Black Widow being the two side projects that wandered in to complete the original team, but really. Black Widow has nothing but "Lolboobs" everywhere I go and Hawkeye is called lame for using a bow.

Let's get this straight. Hawkeye, a secret agent who has dead-accurate aim and could pinpoint an arrow to pierce through your clothing, skin, ribs and heart at the perfect angel to kill you instantly, is lame? What kind of thinking is that? Did we watch the same movie? The guy, with ONE FUCKING ARROW makes an explosion so large in the Shield aircraft's turbine that the whole thing was at risk to plummet. Not to mention, did you see him miss a shot during that last battle? The guy is smart as all fuck, too. He knew Loki would catch his arrow, so he shoots and explosive arrow to him and blows it in his face. Really, the mere thought of stating this guy is lame baffles. Even in Comparison to the other Avengers.

But the Team already HAS the Hulk, and he's the strongest there is, and Tony Stark brings the smarts, soooo.... Why is Hawkeye here? His only power is "Really good at archery". Wow, uh, that's... great... I guess? Here's the deal, though: The rest of the Avengers fight shit that can punch a bus through 3 skyscapers on a daily basis. The MINIMUM requirement for joining this team is that you be bullet proof. Are you bullet proof? No, wearing purple fish scales does not make you bullet proof, you'll still get bruised to hell and back, possibly die from internal bleeding.

WolfThomas:
I hate when people point out that Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America to a lesser extent are underpowered. It's not like it's a choice between Hawkeye or Thor, it's both on the team, one doing subtle stuff, they other being the big guy. You get both.

Hawkeye has always been cool. What I found interesting is they didn't even try to use some of the Ultimates stuff (enhanced vision from a supersoldier program) as an excuse for his badassery, rather the regular "He's just super good with a bow".

Except why have Hawkeye on the payroll when you could have spiderman? Or literally ANY other marvel hero with actual POWERS except for maybe Deadpool.

Captcha: CHANGE YOURSELF. If only you could, hawkeye, if only you could...

Considering how Hawkeye is a highly trained assassin with super human archer abilities. The bow cycled through "trick" arrow tips so that he was not just another archer guy. He is fine wearing armor and just being a spotter for the rest of the team. His purpose is not to punch crap.

Also, Sony owns the movie rights to the Spiderman franchise. He won't be making any kind of appearance unless Disney buys the rights from Sony.

Yes, thats true, but here is something you guys are missing. Nick Fury. He trusted the non-agent avengers about as far as he could throw them, but hawkeye and black widow are shield agents, people nick is familiar with and can trust to make sure the team doesnt get out of line when hes not there. Spiderman wouldnt fit those credentials because he sees the big picture, and will always do what he thinks is right, but that can go messing up Nicks plans because he sees the biggest picture, so Nick wouldnt choose him over his own agents in a million years.
