I like Belle and Sebastian's early and middle stuff a lot more than I like their new stuff. I can listen to "The Life Pursuit," but it's not nearly as good as "The Boy With The Arab Strap" and "Tigermilk."
I was disappointed with Apostle of Hustle's second album, but again, it's listenable; I just wish it was still the bass-and-percussion-heavy blues that the first album was instead of the lighter, pop sort of thing they have going.
The only band that's really disappointed me, though, is Mogwai. I love post-rock, though I've never really liked Mogwai all that much; they're too wanky and repetitive for my taste. Having said that, Mr. Beast is a high quality album. When I saw a new one called Zidane sitting on the shelf, and saw that it was apparently a soundtrack that they'd written for the world cup, I thought, "that's an interesting concept for an album," and picked it up. It was the most boring shit I've ever listened to.
I also have to disagree with the poster on the last page who apparently thinks that every post-rock band sounds identical to Red Sparowes and Godspeed, You! Black Emperor. There are plenty of post-rock bands out there with a unique sound - three off the top of my head would be Explosions in the Sky, Yndi Halda, and Do Make Say Think.
