In the mood for musical discussion, what are the best or most underrated basslines you have ever heard?
For the best I'd say : Rage Against The Machine - I'm Housin

and for most underrated: Kasabian - Empire

To be honest I can't pick one so I'm just going to say 'Iron Maiden' as a cop out.

you cant just say iron maiden. iron maiden are awesome but pick a song at least!
OT: im a bassist and one of the best ive come across is higher ground by the chili peppers but most of there songs have excellent bass lines there amazing (Y)_
EDIT: actually rime of the ancient mariner has epic bass in it and so does anesthesia (pulling teeth) iron maiden and metallica respectively

I'll put three up since I can't decide

It's so funky

This one grooves really well

Not a bass line per se, and there's better versions of the song to be had, but I could not in good faith contribute to a Bass oriented thread without mentioning the master himself. Jaco is the greatest electric bassist to have ever lived.

Assuming you mean bassline and not bass solo ummm..

My favourite is Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai. A close second is Space Cowboy (stoned again mix) by the same group and third I'd have to say Schism by Tool. An honourable mention goes to Positive Tension by Bloc Party for being awesome =D

Anything by les claypool? yeah im not such a fan but he sure is one sweet bassist.
Agreed (that he's a great bassist- I actually am a fan). More specifically I'm going for 'My Name is Mud' - Primus

Besides the fact that it's pretty much a rip of A Certain Romance by Arctic Monkeys, they're absolutely terrible as a band.

For me it's probably Chameleon by Herbie Hancock. Simple, yet absolutely amazing
