Gonna have to say Skyrim. It may not be as big or extensive as Morrowind but at least the combat works. Morrowind probably comes second, then Oblivion. Haven't really played Arena/Daggerfall much.

Daggerfall is easily my favourite of the first 3, maybe even 4. Skyrim is so different that I can't really compare it to the older ones. I don't like how there's almost no difference between the races, and how your character can be good at everything so there's not that much room for specialisation. Basically, it was a little too siplified, so it lost a lot of the charm of the older games. However, it was still a great, but fairly light open world action RPG.

I like both Oblivion and Daggerfall more than Morrowind, but I don't know which one is better, so let's just say it's a tie between the two.

I'll have to say Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim comes up second, it has far better gameplay and (obviously) graphics than Morrowind. But I just feel that overall Morrowind is a far better game, now, Morrowind redone in Skyrim's engine. *drools*

Also Morrowind has the most deadly and challenging opponents known to man: Cliff Racers.

It's already been said, but Morrowind had a really exotic feel to it that wasn't in Oblivion or Skyrim. The floating island above Vivec summed it up for me.

Having said that, visually Oblivion looked a lot better if seeming a little bit too squeaky clean. Skyrim looked even sharper, but it was a released a few years later.

Morrowind for me, I originally got it less then legal and since then bought it twice. I got both Oblivion and Skyrim on release and never managed to get into either of them, maybe 20-25 hours in game before getting bored and start playing something else again.

Oblivion is my favourite by about a mile.

For some reason I don't enjoy Skyrim nearly as much.

In my heart I say Morrowind...because that's the one I have the best memories of...but going back to it after Skyrim I find it unplayable.

Really it has to be Skyrim.

I guess I will tie.
Pretty much this.

Morrowind had a better story and WAAAY better atmosphere, but it was, in all truth, barely functional.

Skyrim has the Elder Scrolls gameplay refined to a mirror shine, but the story is meh, and the atmosphere, while good, doesn't hold a candle to Morrowind.

I'm going ot go ahead and say Oblivion. It was the one I had most fun with thanks to timing. First game I played when I got my new xbox, so the graphical leap and scope of the game took me back. It was also my first enrty into the series (I'd played Daggerfal before but it never ran right). Skyrim is an improvement on Oblivion in most ways, but I don't get that same impact from it. I wonder is this is true of the Morrowind fans as well, because having played a bit of it, I can't see the genius that people go on about.

SKYRIM has little differences between the races? You have got to be fucking kidding me right?

Skyrim.

My experiences with the other TES games can be summed up by the following:

"So, that's the dialogue system, eh? Ooo-kay, guess I won't be doing much talking then. Oh... and that's the combat? Yeah... I'm outa here!"

They look different for sure, but compared to the older games, they all play pretty much the same. High elves for example used to have a severe weakness to magic, but more magicka and immunity to paralysis. Things like that.

Morrowind has the best aesthetic design and the best writing but, unfortunately, has horrid gameplay.

Oblivion has woefull aesthetic design, horrid writing, sub-par game play.

Skyrim looks very pretty, but the aesthetic design was very bland (though bonus points for Moonpath to Elsweyr mod) had mediocore writing and the best gameplay.

So, uhhh, not Oblivion? The first time I played Skyrim I would have told you Morrowind, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Skyrim.

It was just so perfectly envisioned by the devs in the development process.
Everything about it just teems with true Elder Scrolls magic.

I'm going to say Skyrim.

I love morrowind's setting and over al feel, but the combat, the actual game part is really really bad.

Overall? I'm gonna go with Morrowind. I'm not going to count Arena and Daggerfall, as they are both drastically different gameplay wise.

I'd go with Skyrim to be honest, what's the point of a game with an amazing story if it plays like ass and you give up after half an hour?

Morrowind with mods to fix the terrible combat system would probably take it for me but I'm guessing this thread is about vanilla.
