Counter Strike 1.6
Round based.
No gay spawns.
Guns had realistic recoil so you can't just spray.
You had to manage your money each round in order to keep buying your preferred weapons.
Well made maps.
etc.
It was a user made mod after all, so it was done right.
And it was built off of the Half Life 1 engine, so I guess that is the best FPS.
Everyone loved the original Half Life...
Bioshock-its one of the few video games that could be called "beautiful" not referring to graphics
Star Wars: Republic Commando-very underrated in my opinion
Medal of Honor: Finest Hour-back when that series mattered
Call of Duty: Big Red One-back before this on mattered
Personally? Fallout 3. It was a huge immersive and really well made world. With much customization and everything, i just loved it. granted its more of a rpg =P
Mine is The Darkness; I would pick Fallout 3 and/or New Vegas, but I consider them more RPG's. The story to it and the overall gameplay was fun. The Darkness' voice is pure awesome.
Soooo mine's The Darkness...anyone else?
The game alone is a blast to play, the only issues being the occasional hacker, who can be taken care of with a swift banning.
But the one thing that makes it the greatest FPS is the power it has given to the community. The amount of mods and game-types ensures that you'll never grow bored. If you get tired of the standard maps go play a gun game. Bored of that? How about a Zombie match? Still bored? Go play a jail-break server. Go surfing. Go play a mini-game.
Nothing I could say would be justice to that amazing game. Valve should be proud.
Timesplitters 2. I had so much fun playing that game, alone or with friends. The sheer crazyness of it all was so much fun. I don't know if it's my favorite FPS ever, but its definately up there.
DNF Fo' sure! i mean it has to be what with its million year development time.
ok ok i serioulsy think the original red faction is some of the most fun i have ever had in an fps. (not nostalgia, i played it recently.)
For single-player, Bioshock. Deep story, good characters, unique combat and so on. For online, Bad Company 2. Very balanced, good maps, and teamwork is nececary.
