I was having a discussion with colleagues of mine over what are the important qualities a person can have. Many different and even competing qualities were listed (selfishness/kindness, etc). I am curious what people here think.

My vote is curiosity. The ability to learn and understand has great power in a social world.

(p.s. feel free to back up your opinions)

Humility.

Think about. How much better would the world be if everyone just admitted their short comings.

OT: Empathy. That could, and would, actually lead to world peace.

The best quality? In what situation? I'll go with survival instincts.

You cannot be kind or loving or humble or ambitious if you are dead.

Well, the discussion did spur that way. One point brought up was if everyone was selfish then only the strongest could survive, and strong units in a species helps it stay alive and evolve. The counterpoint was being selfless helps provide safety from predators and helps resources gathering and management. I think the original question was for right now though.

Knowledge of self. If you know yourself, your limits, capabilities, even the way you think, then you can achieve anything
