Um, I've seen a few from movies and TV shows too much.
Remember, this is for GAME sword-wielders.
No Killer Bee from Naruto, or Jason Voorhees' sister allowed!
GAMES ONLY, PEOPLE!

Say what you will about the Prince of Persia from Warrior Withen going angsty, and it being worse because of it, but that seriousness MADE the Prince for me. Him and his Darker Half in the Two Thrones get my nomination.

I second this...for fear of Altair killing me in my sleep if I don't.

How can I be the first one to mention Kratos?
He's not exactly 'known' for using a sword though is he?
He is more known for ripping monsters apart with his bare hands like a real man should. Damn prissy Japanese girly men, they woudn't know manly if it bent them over infront of a crowd had its way with them and then started dismembering random bystanders.
Agreed...Thats all I'm sayin.

Link is definitely the best Sword Wielder, has been for many years, both as a child and as an adult Not many can say that.

Oh you got a sword in your mid-twenties? *claps lazily* well Link has had one before he could legally drink

Hmmm... I'd have to say.....

Felix, from GoldenSun: The Lost Age. I'd have said Isaac, but he became a little too arrogant in TLA for my tastes.

My Mount & Blade character or my Morrowind character. I'd say my Oblivion character as well, but he doesn't swing a sword, preferring instead to keep some touch magic around for any enemy that closes the distance after the original bow hit.
My Death Knight Spellsword [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v358/SuperFriendBFG/ScreenShot0-1.jpg] gets the best of both worlds.

I'll just go ahead and name the "Grizzled Samurai" archetype, right now. Auron, Mitsurugi, the lot of them.

Also, I'd like to cheat a bit and name the best not-sword using character: The Nameless One. He uses every melee weapon BUT a sword, has a party member who uses a sword (thus proving that it isn't a lack of availability), and even finds a usable weapon that IS a sword... but has to change it into something else before he can wield it. The only thing I can think of to justify that is that the character simply doesn't want to use them, player's will be damned.

Wow, hooray for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. That allows me to use Deadpool. But in all honesty, who doesn't love the Merc With A Mouth.
I like his level up phrase; "And now I'M better, at doing whatever it is Wolverine does."

For me, though, I like Raiden in MGS4, and even in MGS2 a bit just because if you look at it after the fourth one that game was a slow character change from a somewhat gullible rookie to a ninja badass. In a way, I could sort of compare Raiden in MGS2 to Ocelot in MGS3, except much less well received.

I don't know, but I don't want to meet them.

Anyway, going with the obvious, Link. And, as I prefer Toon Link, lets just say him.

Also, Zero (from Megaman: Zero) and Protoman (from Megaman: Battle Network*).

*I know he was in the original series, but I don't know if he was known for a sword in that. The BN version most definitely was, to the point that one of his arms is always a sword*
