That depressed Elf from Baldur's Gate 1. I think his name was Xan, not too sure though.

We're all doomed! Yup, Xan had his Moonblade, looked damn cool in game, all blue flame, and there was a item cheat that placed it in your inventory too, but it counted as a cursed item so it stuck on the char you equiped it to. Otherwise you'd have to kill Xan to get it (although you're the one that finds it for him in the first place), but that way it'll specify that only Xan can use it.

Let's see...sword wielders...well, I'd put forward Minsc, well BG1 Minsc at least, granted two-handed swords weren't an essential part of his character, but I think many people just stuck with it. He went all mace n' axe dual wieldy in the second for some reason, but I still stuck him with a big ole' two hander orc slicer.

Actually, Keldorn Firecam in BG2 is the epitome of an aged Paladin. Becomes even more awesome if you get the +5 Holy Avenger sword Carsomyr for him >

Best one: Allegretto from Eternal Sonata. He kicks ass. I always have him in the party.

Samanosuke Akechi from the Onimusha series, also his uncle Mitsuhide Akechi (in his Warriors incarnation), get a vote, as do a lot of sword weilding characters from Samurai/Dynasty Warriors.

This one is so powerful it's almost cheating, but what about the Bloodthirster of Khorne form a Warhammer game, (unless his sword isn't made out of metal)? He'd just stomp on & squish your Master Chiefs & Ryu Ninjagaidenguy & whatnot, or burn them with all his hellfire & flaming whip & sword. Also he can't really be killed & he can fly.

Bollocks, I've just realised the Bloodthirster isn't technically a hero, unless you worship chaos. Does it count?

I don't know his name - which is bad ass
His sword is cool because it leads you right to what it wants to kill - even more bad ass
and he's bad ass because he climbs these huge things and kills them to save his woman - I think we have a winner

Holy hell if we can go into Warhammer 40,000 then I might just have to say Cypher (He IS a hero), or Mephiston the Lord of Death.

From video games I'm going to have to go with Vergil, or Squall from Final Fantasy VIII (I know I know he's unpopular) but I'll always remember when he leaps down from a clocktower, slays several Galbadian soldiers, hotwires a car (running over more soldiers in the process) and leaps up onto the parade float where his target is. Also the fight in the opening cutscene is awesome.

Purely from my own selfish view on things. I'd have to say Tyris Flare, The amazon from golden-axe shes by no means "the best" but shes my personal favorite.

also whats with the trend of jaded emotionally damaged heroes, I want to go back to the previous stereotype of teen boys with swords that only link seems to have survived.

i'm so mad i lost Goldbrand AND Ebony Blade to the item box glitch. :'(

oh well at least i still have Umbra and Sword of the Crusader.
