The best video game intros...

I was looking around GamesRadar.com and I found one of their features from a while back about the best old school sonic games which put me in one of those cool nostalgic moods where you remember the great times had with a great game....*sigh*.

Anyways, as I was reminiscing I remembered this;

I mean COME ON! Just look at that and try to tell me that it's not brilliant.
The animation, the music, the fact that it absolutely reeks of the 90's.
You can take your cool effects and gigantic battles and whatnot but in the end that's one of the best intros to a videogame EVER...which then got me thinking about other great intros.

So basically Escapists, what I'd like to know is what do you consider to be awesome intros? If you give an example try to stick in a video too. Hopefully we'll end up seeing a few gems.

While not many people have played this game (or have not liked it), I think that Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube had a damn good intro..

But then of course, most of the cutscenes from the Red Alert series were good.
Except...right at the end. I've always wondered why the "Texas" sign is facing the wrong way...If the Russians are invading Texas, surely the welcome sign should be facing towards them...but of course I'm just nitpicking...

The opening to Half-Life was wonderful. It sucked you right into the game. The same goes for the intro to Half-Life 2. Valve is very talented when it comes to creating immersion.

That is also another great intro. Though maybe I'm just fond of riding little trams that show you impressive scenery.

I would have to say the opening cinematic to The Beatles: Rock Band.

It just looks, sounds, and feels great looking at it. I could watch it a million and still be amazed by the outstanding visuals.

The intro to Ristar. Might seem funny, but when I first played this when I was younger, I was actually really inspired to play by it...especially that last bit.



New school:
I actually really like the opening cinematic for Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. I liked it even more when I finished the game.

This isn't really the game's opening cinematic, but the opening cutscene. It's still pretty fun.
